Banestrike problems

Do this before you complete the "Eight Legs Are Better Than One!" achievement.

When I have the Lasso in one hand and a shield in the other, I one-shot this spider because I have Banestrike for spiders.
And if I don't swing at it at all (just turn my back and let a low level DS do all the work) I don't get credit when it reaches 20%.
I guess I'll just have to keep trying until I can hit it once without Banestriking it.

Sure wish I could turn off Banestrike!

1.5 hour respawn rate (or at least that was my respawn timer, may be a range), when I kept expecting the bugger to do his thing at 25% and didn't. As the others have pointed out: lasso in mainhand, something non-damaging in off hand, make sure you have no damage shield or return kick or such not. I'm doing this on a ranger without the return kick, so no problem there. Took down to 50%, killed spider adds, same at 35%, got him to about 20% and just waited until it popped into my hand. Maybe 5 minutes all told and it's done.

I totally forgot to click my Thrones away. Well have to wait to respawn.

Hopefully its not 1 - 2 hours like in Cazic Thule.

I wound up killing the damned spider a couple times, and then discovered something on the chokidai. The "capture" isn't percentage based. As far as I can tell, it's TIME based.

After getting frustrated with the spider, I moved onto the dog. When he dropped under 25% (13% is where I knocked him to before stopping) I decided I wasn't gonna wait for HIM to respawn, so I parked him with a no-damage root (Elddar's Grasp) and proceeded to camp to let him regen back to 100%. He despawned when I had 10 seconds to camp, and I got the capture on my cursor from across the room.

Gonna go back and test this with the spider and post my results.

EDIT: Worked like a charm. I took no chances, equipped the lasso and a shield, disabled all damage shields and whatnot, engaged the spider. Killed the babies as they spawned, never switching weapons. Dropped the spider to 20%, turned attack off and turned around so I wouldn't riposte or return-kick it to death, and went to make lunch. When I got back, it was on my cursor.

A great tip. I had killed the spider three times before reading this and your advice was exactly correct. I dropped the spider to 50 percent, killed the babies that spawned, dropped it to thirty percent, killed the babies again, dropped the spider to twenty percent, Snared it, turned my back on it, and thirty seconds later it was on my cursor.

It seemed to work for the spider, so I tried the same thing again with the dog, and then the mosquito, and each time it worked without issue. I had already captured the fish, so did not have a chance to try your advice on that.

OK, got it! Here's what I found out while doing it:
first, it's only lvl 50 (not 63).

Second, it's in a room with a few goblins that are easily pulled away before equiping your lasso to get the spider. There are also a few wanderers both in the tunnel and the room itself - to avoid multiple mobs on you at a time, have the patience to clear the wanderers before engaging the spider...

You can get to the room from zonein with camo on (none of the mobs up to spider see invis). I'm not sure if it was bugged, however I was able to go down the right tunnel leading to the spider without looping around the whole zone BUT I could not get back to zonein retracing my steps (May be a 1-way secret door there??)...

I did this solo with 8200+ hp and 1600+ AC wearing GM armor and various other decent gear...

Anyway, this was #3 for me and now I'm off to Chardok for #4... Best of luck to all who are pursuing this quest!

there is a one way door its an illusionary part in the floor you drop down to go through the tunnel you can get back up it. If you have lev on and blink you will miss the sinking through the floor. If you dont you'll feel the drop not bad but you'll notice it then.

Ugh, this was my first capture attempt lastnight, and I messed it up by having the wrong capture weapon equipped (it's a bug.... why not the butterfly net!).

Should have researched more thoroughly obviously.

It was too late to wait 2 hours for a repop, so I camped in the room where he spawns. I hope this counts as "zoning in" and he'll be up when I log in.

The MoB itself is easy @ 70, cons light blue. Hits for mid 100s max. The baby spiders hit for literally 1 to 10, so can be safely ignored. I honestly think they're there so you cant camp out then back in if you ***** up the encounter (as I did).

its also a spider so why not think of the eight looped lasso (eight loops / eight legs)

and i think the baby spiders are there for a distraction more then anything.
Wait...

I used the lasso but I nuked the crap outta it till 40% for all except this one. (still waiting for it to spawn lol) And I had a DS on. No one else can hit the mobs.

Where is he?
# Jan 15 2006 at 10:15 AM Rating: Decent
Spent the last 2 days clearing the little room and so far have not seen him at all. Does he have a PH. 1-2 hour respawn.. ive been here alot longer than that, I came with a ranger friend and he was already up. Wish it was going that easy for me.

Thanks

He will spawn when a ranger at the proper spot in their 1.5 quest zones in... provided someone hasn't spawned him in the last two hours.

If you are a ranger and he's not spawning, the only thing I can think of is that you aren't at that point yet.

The "A Bloated Drogan Spider" that needs to be captured for the early stages of the Ranger Epic (1.5) spawned fairly close to the zone in.

From the zone room, drop down the illusory floor and just follow the corridor generally south. My group stayed invis and nothing saw through it. At the first area that opens up from a tunnel to a room, the "A Bloated Drogan Spider" was there directly across from where the tunnel opened up. We killed off the room's occupants one by one until only the epic mob remained. I ensnared it and it came alone. It spawned about half a dozen or so of the wee little spiders which proved to be nothing more than a nuisance though they did occasionally interrupt my cleric's HoT casting. Once ol' bloaty was beaten down good (to ~25%) it appeared on my cursor. A quick bandoleer switch brought the demise of the little spiders swiftly.

This was my second mob of the captures. So far I've managed to get them all on the first attempt. I clicked off all damage shields and used a shield in my off-hand so I wouldn't dual wield any punches. It also helped makeup some of the AC loss due to clicking off Briarcoat and PotW. I removed all my hotkeys that invoke combat skills (like kick) and I'm glad for it. I found myself hitting that hotkey repeatedly during the fight out of habit. It was a long fight with the crappy dps afforded by the eight loop lasso (using the net on the other mobs was even worse).

Ok, lemme get this straight. You can use NOTHING BUT the lasso? For ANY part of the fight? Nothing that does damage at all? Solely the lasso from 100% to 25%?

Yes, keep a tradeskill trophy or shield in your off hand, Do not use a damage shield or anything that procs, period!. Only damage from the lasso and at 25% he will despawn and your item will pop in your cursor. If you mess up you have to kill him and wait for the next spawn. I tred to log, didn't work, tried to let him heal(back up to 100%) and didn't work. you only get 1 chance per mob to get it right. Have no one else help you, no slow or debuffs. A cleric can heal tho.

Anyone know the respawn time on this mob? I messed up and used the net instead of the lasso. Had to kill it. Been waiting close to an hour now (
