Took me like a 1/2hr to kill this thing, she resisted all my attack spells save for tough of night, i must have hit her 50x and no crits, and too boot she had no loot save for a couple pp. For a 1/2 hr fight you would hope she at least would drop shard, how annoying...

UNDERCON!!!... Seriously... it is not suposed to take 35min to kill a LB mob... and if i hadn't had a healer with me i would have died... Stoopid wurm resisted all but a hand-full of attack spells... but at least it droped Shard of Power aug (+2 all atributes and +25 hp)...

Solo'd her on 70 cleric out of curiousity and boredom.
She is OMG magic resistant.
She even resisted the aug procs in my weapon and usually resisted my Ward.
I whipped out my handy journeyman's walking stick, and I got it to proc several times but the tash it casts is apparently not enough to make a dent in her MR.

She dropped wurm meat.
Blasted fight took 20 mintues because without my Ward/Retribution/Kings the best I could do for dps was skinspikes VI and spank her with my hammer. My pet missed -- a lot.

Fight took 20 minutes but it was fun and I had a 22 minute timer on the dain anyway lol.

Soloed her today, she's got nearly 65 000hp but for a ranger who have the EQ AA it is just a time probleme, for me it took nearly 30mn to make her down.

She either has more or less than 24hour respawn time.

i tried to do quest Sunday at 2am and by 3 she never showed up at dwarves. suspect to be player murder.

I return 1:50am monday. wait til 3. still no broodmother

Edit: checked back every hour until 7am still no mother.
I dont think she is a trigger spawn because if she was she would have been up the first time i tried.

Spawn time?
# Sep 04 2003 at 11:37 AM Rating: Decent
Unless she was killed again, her spawn time is over 24 hours. I've been waiting for her to spawn so I can do the wristguard quest, but she's been down for over a day.

Anybody know if she despawns after doing one of the quests? Also Spawn time would be helpful if anyone knows it.
RE: Spawn time?
# Nov 12 2003 at 10:43 AM Rating: Decent
I did the wristgurad quest yesterday and the Broodmother stayed there outside of the cave for at least 10 minutes before we decided to leave. I went back later in the day and she had returned to her lair.
just wanna say DON'T KILL HER

Why kill broodmother?
# Jul 25 2003 at 2:42 PM Rating: Good
Why do people wanna kill the broodmother? She has a bucketload of HP and high MR. Isn't that just a fair indication that the designers have twinked her so people dont attk her. She doesnt drop anything of significance, and I believe gives low xp..............so why bother?
She is a spawn that is there for a couple of quests. It is rather annoying when u do all the hard work for a quest then go to GD to hand in to broodmother and she has been killed. Then you have to wait another 12 hours to try again, and prob find that some other idiot has killed.
If you play EQ to go around killing anything that moves then you may aswell go and play Doom or something.........it may be more ur intellect level :)

I know exactly how you feel. After getting the rest of my coldain military wristguard quest done I fight thru all those damn caster shardwurms to her cave only to find some tard has killed her. Good work noob, must make you feel like a man to kill quest mobs. No bother, even people with no life have to sleep eventually, so Ill just come back and get her later.

As you said, if you want to kill anything that moves play Doom, it may be better for you ( and definatley better for us ) if you leave EQ altogether.

As another reply noted, not everyone researches every mob that they kill. I came across this mob while looking for glowing wurm biles and tried to kill her to see what she would drop. Due to the large amount of HP and regen rate that she has, I only got her to maybe 90%.

Later I checked here just to see what she might drop if I were to revisit the area. Now that I know she is a quest NPC of course I won't attack her again. But it's easy to make the mistake of thinking she's another named wurm

LOL! Not all characters are on coldain faction (who care about coldain quests), and believe it or not some players role-play evil types. I get mildly annoyed when ppl pull Bvellos in Kael but I don't whine about it - I get my satisfaction watching groups get wiped in the back of the arena.

If I were high enough I'd kill broodmother for the hell of it. Would be even sweeter if someone stood by with a turn in and watched. Muahahaha!
RE: Why kill broodmother?
# Jun 01 2004 at 8:36 AM Rating: Decent
well, fine, play evil types, that's great, noone really cares. Second, the broodmother can be used in a kromrif based quest as well. The idea isn't that people playing evil types are killing mobs for good quests, it's that people are spending time and effort on a critter that ends up not being worth it and ruining another players fun. Don't you think it's possible to play an evil type without goingout and ruining things for other people? It seems to me that you are selfish and inconsiderate and should play doom as previous posts say.
RE: Why kill broodmother?
# Jun 18 2004 at 9:19 AM Rating: Decent
no everyone researches mobs, they see a mob they kill it

also why is your fun (turn in) more important then somone elses fun (kiling somthing)

sorry to break it but alot of people like to kill anything and everything that they run passed be is quest mob named etc, they don't do it from spite they do it because they like killing things, don't take it as a personal affront to peoples rights to struggle through quests
RE: Why kill broodmother?
# Oct 11 2006 at 11:21 AM Rating: Default
Gee, can you get a little more self-centered? You sound like a complete idiot... this thing drops nothing in particular, has twice the number of hitpoints to take it down, and is relatively magic resistant... and to this, you assign the word "fun," where others ascribe it to "harrassment." Used to be the GM's would kick you in the nuts for killing quest mobs repeatedly while people were trying to do the quest, don't know how it is these days.

Fortunately, people with your mentality don't last long in the game, simply because they can't find anyone to play with them after about six months of their brainless antics.

And I am Quoting
"If I were high enough I'd kill broodmother for the hell of it. Would be even sweeter if someone stood by with a turn in and watched. Muahahaha!"

I was replying to someone who was doing, or wanting to do it, for exactly that reason. Also, same person made a comment about quests, to which he obviously had done a little reseach to know a little about it, but not enough to keep from making an uninformed comment. I will however give you the questors or killers arguement, my oversite. And as to "taking it as a personal affront to peoples rights to struggle through quests", as he wrote, it was, so that is exactly how I would take it. And one more thought; when I am playing, I typically try to have fun without it happening at someone elses expense, I guess it's too much to expect that of others? If you took exception to my comments, i apologize, for it was meant for a particular person and not to you. ;)

Well I know how to answer ur post simply matsumurak.............you're an idiot plain and simple. Don't bother playing doom or unreal..........you won't understand it...........I'm surprised you can read.

If you play EQ just to enjoy watching other people suffer and to act the fool then that is very shallow.

I didn't know this was a quest turn in mob when I helped kill her tonight. So sorry peeps!

A guildmate thought she dropped a certain spell and asked for help taking her down, so off we went.

This mob does have a ton of hp and obscene magic resistance. I tried malosini, fire based and magic based nukes. All resisted. We ended up Bst and pet tanking her, keeping my DS on everyone. A few pets, and one dead bst (poor Kitca) later, she went down.
RE: Why kill broodmother?

As previously stated not everyone researches every mob as for the comments from you who down others, I would have to say ignorance must be bliss. The game is here for all to enjoy not just the ones with 20+ IQ. Why kill her, some for the hell of it, some through accident and some purely to prove a point to others or for payback from coming across her and hitting her by accident during large pulls. Be tolerant of others and you will get same if not maybe games like WoW are more your speed. Everquest was created for Adults by adults based on a roleplaying table top game made in the 70's. Have respect is all i can say

There were a group of 5 of us - all low 50 casters/hybrids. Forget exact makeup but 2 shammys a pally and a druid and one other. We all beat on her, expended ALL our mana and drained her for about 25%. Then we all bravely rand away!!! She has a bucketload of HP - at Dk Blue to us and a good hit she's a bit of an undercon I reckon!
RE: 25kHP?..!
# May 18 2003 at 9:42 PM Rating: Default
I don't know if she has 25khp but she does have a BUTT LOAD. I decided to attack her as a 65 Beastlord and like 20mins later she dropped or something. The first time I engaged I blew so much mana on slows (none of which landed) I had to camp out and come back and try again. So I came back, basically sat and med the whole time and kept healing the pet.. after almost falling asleep she died and dropped 6 gold. I was so psyched that I immediately went to the bazaar to see want kinda uber equipment I could buy afterwards!

trash mobs in Vex Thal have i think about 60-100k hp , and they drop nothing 99.9% of the time. just trash you have to clear.

I fought her with a group a few days back, MR was too high for nukes so all damage was done melee, and i didnt get a count but ill just say this, We had a 56 warrior, a 54 warrior, and me 45 ranger pounding on her for 32 minutes for her to drop, thankfully we were grouped with 3 KEI'ed clerics. But i can state with absolute certainty that I alone must have pumped out over 10k damaged during the course of that fight, bare minimum, and the warriors evern more then me probably by a good amount, so do your own math.
RE: 25kHP?..!
# Jan 06 2003 at 3:25 PM Rating: Decent
It is not uncommon for wurms to have very high hit points. Level 43 wurms have 8k'ish hitpoints, 50+ easily hit 18k. Don't compare mobs my hitpoints, because when you can negate the mobs attack, hitpoints are just how long you gotta hit the thing. The difference between 32k hitpoint dragons and these wurms are that the wurms only double melee, while Naggy has his fun AEs.

hmm not sure on BMs HPs but some planes mobs that arent named do have 14k hp which isnt alot for a raid. named raid mobs (dread. teerror, enraged golem CT, named junk in ToV and SS ect) above 50 have alot of hp...24k is nothing
Is she also called the Shardwurm Matriarch?
# Jan 28 2002 at 11:48 AM Rating: Default
The other night we were killing Cyrstilines to get the Pally spell Flame of Light when a Shardwurm Matriarch spawned. We had a full group of levels 45-52 and she was not really a problem except for the fact that she CH'd herself twice, doh! But with some perserverence we killed her and she dropped the Bracer of Scale, Flame of Light spell, and one other spell (don't recall what it was). Anyway she conned dark blue to me at 49 and hit about the same as the crystilline wurms. Is she the same mob as the Broodmother, with just a different name and a bit lower level?

Finally got around to finishing the quest for the pants tonight... just a tip... it helps to have more people to take down Fergul faster or the Broodmother can come after you after she finishes the other giant... almost died hehe :)

There are basicly two ways to get to her.

1. Invis or camo to get past the other wurms.

2. Just bring a bunch of friends and kill the other wurms on your way in.

Have an eye on eqatlas.com for a decent map.
If u enter caverns from south, take first right opening, follow passage, pass next right opening, then follow right wall and she's in the biggie cavern.

WRONG Loot
# Sep 21 2001 at 4:24 AM Rating: Default
Don't go killing the Broodmother for that bracer. SHE DOES NOT DROP IT. The Shardwurm Matriarch does. People are always confusing the two and doing stupid stuff like killing the quest mob. The Broodmother is for NOTHING but the two quests (Kromrif legs, Coldain bracer), but the Matriarch drops the bracer of scale, spells, and a whip. If you feel you must be an *** and kill the Broodmother go ahead; just don't expect the crappy bracer.
