I came upon a weapon rack inside Crushbone Keep that held an odd piece of steel. It looked very, very old and did not seem to belong with the other orc equipment. An inscription on the steel suggests that it could be made into a weapon of some potency. Perhaps there is magic at work here, but in any case, I will follow this course and see where it leads.
Stage 1
An inscription on the steel reads "A true Gruedheim weapon must be bathed in the blood of thy enemies." Perhaps these orcs qualify.

After dipping the sword in the blood of many different kinds of orcs, the inscription on the steel changed. It is surely magical in nature!Stage 2
The steel is asking me to gather earth from the deepest, darkest corner of Crushbone Keep. I should search the depths of this place and try to find such soil.
Start: | I must search the depths of Crushbone Keep for the ancient earth that the steel longs for. |
---|
Complete: | I have gathered the oldest soil within Crushbone Keep and touched it to the steel. |
---|
I found the earth that the steel asked for. Now I will have to see what the steel wants next.Stage 3
The steel says I am to seek out a true son of Gruedheim. I don't really know what that means, and I don't think any of the orcs here would be interested in helping me find out. Perhaps I should ask the advice of one of the dwarves in the tunnel leading to the keep.
Start: | I should seek the advice of one of the dwarven liberators I noticed in the cave leading to Crushbone Keep. |
---|
Complete: | I have spoken to Turgo Bargedown, one of the dwarven liberators. He suggested a course of action for me. |
---|
I spoke to Turgo Bargedown, who told me about an extremely skilled blacksmith held captive by the orcs in the forge outside the keep.Stage 4
I should go to the forge outside Crushbone Keep and speak to the dwarven blacksmith held captive there. According to Turgo, this blacksmith has the expertise needed to work with any kind of steel.
Start: | I should go to the forge outside Crushbone Keep and try to speak to Burgef Steelwright, the dwarven blacksmith held captive there. |

Complete: | Burgef the blacksmith needs his tools back from the orc supervisor who took them. |
---|
I spoke to the dwarven blacksmith held captive outside Crushbone Keep. He could work on my steel, but he needs his finest tools to do so.Stage 5
I need to obtain the rare smithing tools taken from Burgef the blacksmith by the Crushbone guardmaster. Burgef says the guardmaster spends a lot of time in one of the nearby tents.
Start: | I should search tents near the forge building for the guardmaster who has Burgef's crafting tools. |
---|
Complete: | I slew the guardmaster and found that he carried Burgef's tools. |
---|
I liberated Burgef's crafting tools from the guardmaster. Now I should take them back to the blacksmith.Stage 6
I should take the crafting tools back to Burgef so that he can make something from this piece of Gruedheim steel.
Start: | I should take the tools back to Burgef the blacksmith and see if he will use them to forge the steel into a weapon. |
---|
Complete: | Burgef used his tools to craft a fine weapon for me. |
---|
Burgef Steewright used his considerable talents to make me a fine weapon of Gruedheim steel. I found an enchanted piece of steel inside Crushbone Keep. It seemed to possess a mystical consciousness that guided me through several steps. First I defeated a number of opponents inside the keep. Then I rubbed the steel with old dust from the castle's foundation. Finally I brought the steel to a captive dwarf blacksmith who was apparently a true son of Gruedheim, the original name for this keep back when it was established as a dwarven outpost. He transformed the steel into a useful weapon that I will keep handy in the battles ahead.
