Tiers 1 and 2

The Shadow Odyssey introduces a new method of acquiring armor, jewelry, and weapons. Void Shards are the currency used to buy these items. Each dungeon has several quests or Missions on a daily rotation which award them, as well as Void Shard chests found in each zone. Finally, there is a rotating Daily Double quest which awards 2 Void Shards for completing tasks in a specific dungeon. It is possible to earn up to 4 shards in a single dungeon instance. Norrath TSO Missions

Tier 1 Void Shard Armor (Legendary) is a substantial upgrade over the Kunark Legendary sets and has more specialized stats and bonuses for each character class.

Tier 2 Void Shard Armor (Legendary) is a slight upgrade in the primary stats over the Tier 1 Void Shard Armor but introduces a crucial new survival statistic -- Critical Mitigation -- which is required to survive the more difficult TSO Group Dungeons as well as all of the TSO Raid Zones.

Void Shard armor may be purchased from the five mysterious quellithulian vendors in the new Moors of Ykesha zone. Alternately they may be crafted by tradeskillers who have completed the requisite quests and acquired the recipe books. They can make void shard armor for a substantial discount in the number of shards.

Within each set, though, you will only see the three items that are within that subset. Subsets are more finely tuned to a specific play style or party/raid role. In this column we make suggestions only. They are not restrictions. If the Class column says "All", or includes your Archetype, Class or Subclass, then you can use them.

Tier 3

Game Update #51
Elements of Corruption
Live: March 31, 2009

Game Update 51 will introduce a new x2 Raid Zone (12 persons) named the Ward of Elements. It also introduces new Tier 3 Void Shard (Fabled) Armor. Thanks to feldon of EQ2Wire for this excellent info (from Test):

There are two NPCs:

Fire Weaving Robe
Fire Weaving Robe
The new x2 Raid Zone entitled Ward of Elements presents 6 bosses to your 12 member raid raid force. Each of the 6 bosses can drop one or more Molds. To buy your T3 Void Shard Armor Pattern from Assilus, you must have the necessary Mold and the requisite number of Void Shards.

Borden will take your Pattern and the requisite T2 Void Shard Armor piece and turn it into a T3 Void Shard Armor piece. The Tier 2 Void Shard Armor pieces are a direct line upgrade from the T2 Legendary Void Shard Armor.

For instance if I run the x2 Raid Zone and I get my Boot Mold, I give that Mold (along with 5 Void Shards) to Assilus. He gives me back a Boot Pattern which I turn in to Borden (along with my T2 Legendary Boots) and in return he gives me my brand spanking new T3 Fabled Boots. This chart summarizes what is needed to acquire each

  • T3 Void Shard Armor
    • 8 Void Shards + Head Mold + T2 Head (Legendary) -> T3 Head (Fabled)
    • 10 Void Shards + Chest Mold + T2 Chest (Legendary) -> T3 Chest (Fabled)
    • 12 Void Shards + Shoulder Mold + T2 Shoulder (Legendary) -> T3 Shoulder (Fabled)
    • 5 Void Shards + Gloves Mold + T2 Gloves (Legendary) -> T3 Gloves (Fabled)
    • 8 Void Shards + Legs Mold + T2 Legs (Legendary) -> T3 Legs (Fabled)
    • 5 Void Shards + Boots Mold + T2 Boots (Legendary) -> T3 Boots (Fabled)

But we're not done yet. All of the T3 Void Shard Armor Sets have a 7 piece bonus. That 7th piece is the Bracers which drop inside the x2 Raid Zone. Please note that some armor sets have more than 7 items listed in the set. This is to allow multiple armor appearances for different classes, such as Warlock vs. Wizard and Coercer vs. Illusionist.

Tier 4

The Shadow Odyssey introduced 20 group dungeons and 4 raid zones. These raid zones drop patterns which can be turned in (along with void shards) to make what was previously called the TSO x4 Raid Armor. With the introduction of the T3 Void Shard Armor in GU51, this x4 Raid Armor is now being referred to as Tier 4. These items are being substantially upgraded to leave an obvious progression between the T3 and T4. Please note that the statistics and bonuses on this Tier 4 armor are derived not from the T1 and T2 Void Shard Armor but instead from the Kunark Veeshan's Peak Raid Armor sets. There is no direct upgrade path between T3 and T4 armor.

Sets in this Tier are purchased from Bittee Silvertail in Dropship Landing Zone, by the mender. Each piece cosst between 3 50  and 8  (for the Chest piece), in addition to 3-5 Void Shards and a pattern which drops from Named encounters in any of the raid zones in The Shadow Odyssey. This includes Tomb of the Mad Crusader, Zarrakon's Abyssal Chamber, Ykesha's Inner Stronghold and Palace of the Ancient One.
