Arena: Cyber Evolution: World's First MOSA?

Launching today at 3PM ET on Early Access, this free game sparks our curiosity.

You're probably thinking Oh great, another acronym. All things considered, it's the best way to describe Arena: Cyber Evolution. This "Multiplayer Online Sports Arena" (MOSA) is a competitive 3v3 physics-based arena game. We get a Monday Night Combat vibe with air hockey gameplay.

It's an odd combination, but...we dare say it may work!

The game comes from the relatively-young Canadian indie studio Spearhead Games. Their development story is rather compelling. Keen on involving the community, they've flung open the doors as wide as they go. They describe the game as being "created with the Twitch community," streaming the game's development every weekday.

"ACE is a Multiplayer Online Sport Arena, a physics-based game where super-powered champions vie for power in a 3-vs-3 soccer-inspired battle of wits and twitch reflexes. After 22 weeks of round-the-clock development guided by the game's active community of over 90,000 players, this MOSA has evolved from a conceptually compelling prototype to a fully functional, mechanically sound gameplay experience."

So far, you can select from "one of five cyberpunk superheroes" to use in the arena:

Vengeful Star: A jetpack-clad midfielder who can amplify the ball's velocity and move in hyperspeed
Stalker: A stealthy cyber-ninja character who can blink, unseen, from one place to another or disappear
The Nitrogen Queen: A frosty royal with the ability to freeze the ball or slow down time itself
Vex Wrecker: A flying biker who can fire long range missiles and boost his movement speed
The Negociator: A robotic behemoth and a natural goalie, who can teleport to the goal for last-minute saves

They also mention a very cool feature involving the audience of the potential new eSport:

"ACE also features dynamic arena-changing shifts –including earthquakes, gravity reversals, black holes, arena rifts, and more – which will ultimately be directly controllable by the viewing audience."

All of that sound good to you? Us too. See you in the arena!
