Editor's Note: CCP has just published a blog post on the conflict below.

Monday, one day before the launch of Rubicon 1.1, a massive battle was fought in the B-R5RB system where everything—including over five dozen Titans—was fair game!

This was the most expensive conflict ever, tipping the scales at a whopping estimated $300,000 to $330,000 worth of ISK. For some perspective, the famed and often-discussed "Battle of Asakai" cost a meager 5% of today's clash. On a very relevant note, January 27th was the exact 1 year anniversary of the Battle of Asakai.

What happened? The two most powerful coalitions in EVE, N3PL vs CFCRUS, fought over a space station after N3PL missed a payment to protect the B-R5RB solar system. Kill boards are not fully updated yet but the database count shows 16 Titans lost for CFC/RUS/BL and 59 for N3/PL (Titans being the largest class of ship available in EVE). The loss of 75 of these behemoths in a single fight was totally unprecedented.

The combat, ultimately involving 7,548 pilots was slowed down at 10% speed through the mechanic called 'Time Dilation' to prevent server lag and allow commands to be processed in the correct order. The slaughter of the N3PL faction continued for 21 hours until the scheduled downtime.
