Broken Broker Baffles Buyers

UPDATE 11:22am (Pacific): Holly "Windstalker" Longsdale tweeted: "We are testing our fix for the broker now and are preparing for hotfix. Still looking into the chat issue."

Today's patch introduced a bug that has rendered the broker nearly unusable. Any item excluding equipment displays no name on the broker, causing it to be unsearchable. The UI you use has no impact, so don't rush and begin swapping UI pieces trying to fix it.

This problem is listed in SOE's Top Known Issues and will hopefully be fixed very soon.

When you write a program, you are writing a list of commands for the computer to follow. When you add something new to that list, a lot of times it messes up something that was previously written by creating conflicts. it takes a lot of trial and error to find out what bugs are created and then rewrite the program to fix them without losing what was added. the best programmer in the world can not predict every little detail of what a program will do when it is added to.

yes there are always a lot of bugs with a new expansion and sometimes an item works well on beta, but when added to an existing program, there may be unintended consequences and bugs you thought you had worked out pop up in new ways. remember that beta is a special instance where the program runs without all the added stuff of the regular game. it has the basics so that it can be tested, but there are things in the live program you don't actually have in beta. to make it all run like a well oiled machine takes time. and just when it is running right, it is time to add something new, or bring in a festival, or any of the millions of other little programming sets that makes the game so enjoyable.

we all get frustrated with bugs, especially when fixing one item breaks something else, but programmers are only human and are trying their best to bring us a great gaming experience. I think they do a great job. there are a lot of things i wish they would change about the game, but i do understand that they have limitations and so i try not to expect too much during the first few weeks of a new expansion.

It's things like this that make me want to quit EQII, because of a company that clearly is in it for profit without much consideration for its players. This isn't the first time something like this has happened. I'm not complaining just about the broker, whatever, it's just too many instances like this (and worse ones during the beginning of this year) as we all know due to Sony's failure to support.
Why bother with a test server ...

Read over and over again that the bugs people experienced today were reported when this patch went live on test, yet SOE went ahead and uploaded it to the live server anyhow. Why bother with a test server if they're not going to listen to what people tell them?!?
