I saw on Toonami's facebook page that they (Adult Swim) are co-producing two more seasons (12 episodes total) of FLCL, with Production I.G.

All I know right now is they better get The Pillows in on that Soundtrack.

Facebook announcement.

Part of why FLCL is perfect is because it doesn't waste time with excessive backstory and world-building.

So while I'll watch the new episodes, I won't be happy about them.

I never really understood the love affair people have with this show. I enjoyed it, but I didn't love the way the rest of the internet seemed to think I should.

Exactly. I'm just glad it's six episodes per season. FLCL needs to be short and sweet and confusing or it just isn't FLCL.

Toonami is also bringing back Samurai Jack. Smiley: thumbsup

I heard about that, and was pleased. I never did get to finish watching the original run. I can't remember if my kid self just didn't pay attention, or if CN moved **** around and I lost track of it.

Powerpuff Girls has been brought back, and the showrunner says there won't be any Ms Sara Bellum because she doesn't fit with the message they're trying to convey. I guess strong beautiful women who run the show behind incompetent men is a negative? It's not like they could have just made her the Mayor or anything.

Yes, I mad.

Episode list has her name in like... episode 6 or 7 (With a "Bye Bye"). So they get rid of Sara Bellum, but keep the spoiled rich kid brat Princess.

I watched the first few episodes. So far they haven't really fought any bad guys. Mojo showed up for some cross dressing shenanigans at a little girls' sleepover (not creepy at all). Mayor was his stupid self for 5 minutes of one episode. The Girls swooned over some boy band.

I wonder what the fate of Him will be. Pretty sure he/she was in the opening sequence.

Didn't he do that in the original series as well?

I saw the Mojo episode. He didn't seem to be as repetitive as I was accustomed to. I'm kind of curious how they'll deal with Him as well. That's like twenty different social groups to anger at once.

So in addition to all of Mrs Bellum and Mojo's speech impediment, Ms Keane's breasts are also gone. Because apparently women having tits are too objectifiable, but tiny children twerking their butts while high on sugar is perfectly acceptable.

Also: Google - breasts unacceptable, tits acceptable

I watched the "Bye Bye Bellum" episode. They didn't really change much with the Bellum character. Still pretty much the same. They just won't have her in the series cause she's on vacation after working for the mayor for decades.

But, the whole controversy was just BS from the show creator to drum up social media presence. There's so much existing stereotypes and tropes in the series, including ones that would be viewed as negative to women/girls, that remain. Ones far worse than a female assistant running the show behind a lovable oaf of a mayor.

If I were to guess, it's that her name is a play on a firearm reference (well, a Latin phrase used as a firearm reference really, but that's beside the point).

I'm pretty sure a name play on Cerebellum isn't referencing a firearm. She's a smart secretary for a stupid mayor, whose head is not shown on screen.

On a side note, they kept the whole "Fat/Ugly = Evil" stereotype. Progress!

Yeah, the name is a play on words that she's the person who is actually in charge and the mayor is charming but ultimately inept to the nth level.

I saw a screenshot of Him with Ms. Keane hogtied and being lowered into a vat of some sort. Maybe the goal is social sensory overload?

"Malty Brown" hosted an episode of "Sliced" on today's episode. I like Alton Brown and Chopped, thought it was a pretty funny parody. Overall the show isn't that bad. Stupid choices and engineered controversy aside.

Could stand to have a few more of the big bad guys, actual plots to take over Townsville/The World, and the girls doing more crime fighting. I think so far the biggest bad guys that showed up (Not counting Mojo's sleepover appearence) were the Ugly and Fat "sisters"... and the Mayor was the one that saved the day there.

Hah. Well, that makes a whole heck of a lot more sense then. I'll defer to folks who watch this sort of animeish insanity.

Cool foodie reference. Although Alton Brown doesn't host Chopped (and I'm not sure he's ever even appeared on it as either judge or competitor). Then again, that almost certainly doesn't matter in this context.

Him made an appearance in today's episode. Seemed pretty much the same. Effeminate male, same echoing voice, tricking Townsville with a cursed tiara as a reward for a beauty pageant.

A couple classic bad guys as background characters. And Mojo again, this time impersonating a classic Marilyn Monroe pose while day dreaming about winning the tiara. And he definitely is not as repetitive as he was remembered to be. I am pretty sure he only said his own name once.

They seemed to try to play with memes. Bubbles got pissed off and said "No Me Gusta", troll face and all.

One thing I just noticed... this series hasn't done their creation story? The original opening of each episode was the whole "Sugar, Spice, Everything nice". I thought about it because I just remembered the Rowdyruff Boys. It's got me thinking if they would have Mojo create them with the whole "Snips and Snails and Puppydog tails." Which wouldn't really work well if the girls weren't being established as being created the same way.

I think PPG had an anti-trans episode...

A pony thinks he is a Unicorn, and Bubbles, wanting ever so much to be friends with a Unicorn, supports him. They get the professor to do an operation to make him into a Unicorn, and instead he is transformed into a hideous monster.

By the end of the movie he is transformed back, and then it's revealed he was a Unicorn all along. But there were some strong messages there of people trying to be something that they weren't born as, and the bad things that come from it.
