Anyone else watching this? I LOVE the comic the Playstation TV show Powers is based upon, but despite a fairly impressive cast I'm not loving the show. I want to, because again the source material is pretty great, but despite the creators of the comics heavy involvement in the show I'm just not feeling it.
Sharlto Copley plays Christian Walker, a former super hero who lost his powers & is now a Detective in the Powers division of LA's police force. He's joined by his new partner, Deena Pilgrim, who hasn't really been the foul mouthed *** kicker she was in the comics. While Eddie Izzard has been generally excellent as Walker's arch-nemesis Wolfe, it seems their origins have been changed to such an extent that the tension between the two of them is....lacking.
In the comics they were immortal beings that have done battle since the dawn of time. In the TV show they had a student/teacher relationship until Wolfe went crazy & instead of killing him, Walker captures him so he gets famous.
Retro Girl is very much alive in the TV show & played by the generally excellent Michelle Forbes, but she isn't really handled as the hero that others aspire too as she was in the comics. Walker spends most episodes whining about losing his powers. Callista has been changed from a young girl to a teen that will do anything to get powers, including ******* Powers.
I'll end up finishing it, but I'm already wishing it had stuck closer to the source material as more of a "Homicide: Powers" cop show than the media obsessed show it is.
/sigh
