Black Panther has been cast, & he's the dude from 42: The Jackie Robinson Story.

Captain Marvel has been confirmed as Carol Danvers. Not cast yet. Wondering if they'll make her Sky from AoS?

Or could she be an Inhuman? That would kind of make more sense...

Doctor Strange looks like it'll be Benedict Cumberbatch, but not confirmed yet.

Infinity War: Squee!!!

Really nice.

But this part
idiggory wrote:

makes me wonder.

If Avengers 3 gets split up into 2 movies, doesn't that present problems with the contracts of some of the actors? Or do they just have to kill specific characters in the first part to avoid those? Smiley: lol
RDJ, Evans and Hemsworth would all have to commit to one additional movie as to what their contracts say now. Or am I missing something?

Yeah, it is most definitely Carol Danvers, so at the very least I'm excited over that. For now. Even coming from Marvel's own mouth, I still wouldn't be surprised of a schedule change after the Wonder Woman movie reveal.

I still contend that Gal Gadot is too small to play Wonder Woman, but to counter my own argument it's not like the official comic artists draw her really bulky Amazonian either. Korra would make a decent WW, nevermind her being a cartoon character.

And if I weren't hyped for Strange before, consider it official.

I'm guessing not an Inhuman, just because I would be really surprised if Inhumans wasn't an origin story.

As for Cumberbatch, the rumors are literally that they're about to begin talks for him to take the role. Even if that's true, it's FAR from confirmed, and they can be courting other actors at the same time.

Kevin Feige also made a point to say, that they would have announced the casting if they had one confirmed.

For what it's worth, though I've been happy with Cumberbatch in pretty much everything, I REALLY hope it's not him. Those cheekbones would look awful with a goatee...

IDK, that just seems wrong to me.

This site actually put together a list of 9 non-white actors they think would do great in the part (since the main line-up is just so freaking white, even with Black Panther included), and I have to say I REALLY like the idea of Lenny Kravitz as Stephen Strange.

Like, I want that. Really badly. That sounds awesome.

I promise that it's not just because that'd be incredibly hot. At least mostly... alright, some... maybe a little...

It can be & still fit with what we know about Sky. She's probably either at least part Kree since she didn't get wacky carving powers from the shot of Kree blood, or an Inhuman (A human decended from those manipulated by the Kree many, many years ago).

Her Dad doesn't look Kree, so I'd say Inhuman would be more likely.

I doubt Inhuman simply because we're four years out from the Inhuman movie, while we're already exploring Kree in universe. I'm betting that Age of Ultron will start bringing up Inhumans, to bypass the "mutant" issue.

I read your article you intended to link, digg. Maybe D. B. Woodside, but I'm only saying that to be nice since I'm adamantly against character changes for the sake of changes and Woodside was the only choice they had that didn't appear absolutely stupid. Seriously, Danny Pudi? I don't think Cucumbatch really has the necessary presence, but I'm basing that on what little of Sherlock I've seen and that last Star Trek Lens Flare movie he was in. Also, Cucumber doesn't look like he'd make a convincing Mets fan.

I don't mind changes for the movie universe. I know the canon deviations tend to annoy the crap out of you, though.

I don't have any particularly strong feelings that Stephen Strange must not be white! I just happened onto that article when trying to find the quote whatshisname gave about the Dr. Strange casting not being confirmed. I had never really thought about it before. I didn't really like anyone else on the list for the role, either. Generally, I'd never seen them in anything, or what I'd seen them in didn't give me reason to think they'd be good as Strange (either because I didn't like the performance or it was too different for me to compare them).

I just REALLY like Lenny Kravitz for the role.

Now, to be fair, I don't think it's a bad idea at all to race swap one or two big-name white characters for the sake of diversity, if their back story doesn't really change because of it. Marvel's super diverse, but the movie structure really reduces that by a lot. We're not getting the PoC in the collective films, and so far Rhodey feels like a constant afterthought to me. And we don't have Storm either, which sucks.

Another big concern I have is that Stark and Strange look so similar. Strange normally has really flamboyant outfits, which is how you easily identify him. But they're going to downplay his outfit in the movie, and I think they really need to keep his and Tony's look different.

Personally, I'd prefer the elements be there (goattee, white streak) with a different skin tone. But maybe other people prefer something else.

Another version of the trailer. Second half is almost identical though.

At 00:51 there are 3 women in the room. Maria Hill, Black Widow and someone I don't recognize. Anyone here has an idea?

There's been no real confirmation of who she is, but a ton of speculation ranging from "Scarlett Witch" to "random celebrity hanging out with the Avengers." Also might be a Korean actress making her American acting debut named Claudia Kim.

I'll note it here as well, the look on Thor's face when Steve is trying to lift Mjolnir is going to be a big plot point somewhere down the line.

Really? Lenny Kravitz? I'm not seeing him in the role either by personality, past performances, or appearance (and I'm not talking about skin tone here). Frankly, I think he'd look ridiculous as Dr. Strange, but then again, they cast Tom Cruise as Lestat that one time, so what do I know?

Funny thing is that I was thinking "Hey. Robert Downey Jr would make a great Dr. Strange", then remember that he's already Tony Stark.

To be fair, he was a pretty awesome Lestat.

Especially after you watch Queen of the Damned.

No, really, RDJ is pretty much the ideal casting for Dr. Strange. Which is kinda the problem. I'm worried they won't be able to give Strange the presence his character deserves, because RDJ makes such a perfect Stark.

As for Kravitz, I kind of like the idea of what he'd do with the character. It's not any particular part of his mien, just what I feel about the total package. So I also can't really argue it persuasively, it's nothing more than personal aesthetic.

Yeah. Hence the "what do I know?" bit.

I never completely discount what someone could do with a role (see Cruise as Lestat). Kravitz just strikes me as as out of left field possibility. Honestly though, I'd expect that if they were going to use a non-white guy to play Dr. Strange, African would probably be the least likely racial type they'd go with. Unfair stereotypes and whatnot, but there you have it. Asian or Middle Eastern fits better with the "traditional" mystic/wizard role. Voodoo witchdoctor? Totally different story. Unfair, yes. But film producers tend to not stray too far from even the dumbest stereotypes.

I'd go South American Latino myself if that was my criteria.

Pure aesthetics, Keanu Reeves has the look, but I'm just not fond of how his roles revolve around being stoic. Strange is definitely not. Just the idea of "By the hoary host of Hoggoth, I know kung fu" makes my eye brow twitch.

It should be noted that Keanu has denied involvement in the Doctor Strange movie, but so did Jason Momoa about Aquaman.

Edit: I also remembered Geoffrey Rush, who played the Vincent Price character in the '99 House on Haunted Hill and thought that'd be perfect. Then I saw a current picture. He ... he didn't age well.

He was born in Philidelphia, and his sister and brother in Nebraska. That's a pretty honkey family tree if anything. Can we all at least agree that the Ancient One should be played by James Hong (Lo Pan from Big Trouble in Little China)?

I'm gonna guess that there are Asians in Nebraska, and I went through Chinatown two weeks ago. I'm guessing that's still there.

I was more referring to the part where he actually gains control over his magical abilities by going to an ancient Tibetan monastery and learning from the old sage there. It's disturbingly Tom Cruisey in its white savior complex.

It was literally the next line...

TVTropes calls it Mighty Whitey.

The most egregious version of this is when it's full-blown white savior complex (the Tom-Cruise-in-the-Last-Samurai thing). When the white guy swoops in and saves the people of color, which is particularly insulting when it's by better-utilizing resources and techniques originating with those people.

As long as Dr. Strange's movie doesn't have him, y'know, saving Tibet, it should avoid the worst of that. But the messaging of "White guy goes abroad and almost immediately surpasses the native master at a native art" is still fairly... y'know.

He shouldn't be Asian because of his backstory so much because racebending will make people maybe feel better? I don't think we should make casting decisions based purely on white guilt.

Can we speculate on who should play the character based on, I don't know, an actor's ability to portray the character either physically or by presence, or maybe even source material?

While I'm killing this gag, how about adding this to the list of charges?
