Was this a serious post? I didn't think so...

I saw bits and pieces of Think Like a Man when it was out on one of the cable channels. I did not care for it, and definitely couldn't see paying theater prices to see it. And, in my opinion, this forum wasn't the target demographic of that movie.

Yes, this was a serious post. I'm not sure why you think a movie forum is not the target demographic for a mainstream comedy movie. I didn't realize that this forum was "whites only".

I doubt "Think like a man too's" target demo is MMO nerds who post what they think about things on a fairly obscure internet forum. You probably fall into its target demo though, why do you think that is Alma?

We tried posting a sign once, but they made us take it down. It's one of those things we can't outright say, but is heavily implied. Smiley: nod

My question on the seriousness of your question was not because the movie was a "black comedy", but because you said:

Given the nature of the forums, and the existing posts in it, I don't see how you could be seriously surprised that "Think Like a Man Too" didn't have a topic about it. These films are not discussed much here, ever. There are many genres not discussed. A lot of Romance films that have a big buzz are never talked about either. That one that just came out... Fault in Our Stars. My cousins are talking it up like crazy on Facebook. Pretty sure it's never been mentioned on Allakhazam. Not many (if any) people talking about the latest Fast and Furious movies either. Or Ride Along, even though my coworker went to that one and thought it was great.

This is movie forum, which has had several mainstream COMEDY movies, such as Anchorman. "Think like a man too" is a mainstream COMEDY movie as well. If the movie somehow didn't fit the category of other movies listed on this forum, then you would have a point. I probably fit in their target demo, because it's a comedy movie and most people like comedy movies.

I'll just note that I never said it didn't belong. Just that it is not surprising that it didn't have a topic talking about it already. The joking stemmed from me thinking you were joking because of the comment that you were surprised.

Did Anchorman 2 or even Anchorman have topics I'm this subforum? (I'm on my mobile and can't be bothered to search at the moment)

I'm not going to put words in your mouth, but your response on more than one occasion to my question was "this forum wasn't the target demographic of that movie." I translate that into "it doesn't belong here". In any case, I'm pretty sure Anchorman 2 was, but I know Hangover III has a thread.

So my response was less on your concern on why you thought I was "surprised" and more so on your "target demographic" comments given that main stream media movies and even less popular non-nerd movies were posted. I'm pretty sure Argo had a thread as well, so to pretend that this is a "nerd-onry" forum is misleading.

I see hangover 2 and hangover 3 had threads. None of the anchorman movies did. Most every other movie I searched for outside the Sci-Fi/Fantasy/Horror came up with zero hits. Comedy, Romance, Action, didn't really matter.

I'll stand by my assertion that it's no surprise this movie didn't already have a topic on these forums. And my Tyler Perry comment, and subsequent off colored comments, just mocking your surprise. I would have made a similar comment had someone came in posting they were surprised that "The Fault in Our Stars" didn't already have a topic. Probably would have mentioned that this forum isn't a bunch of pre-teen girls. Even the new Sci-Fi-ish love story movies like Divergent don't get talked about much if at all.

I don't really watch much TV, so I hadn't seen a trailer or heard of it. Apparently, it's a sequel to a movie I didn't know existed, but both seem to have done well at the box office. I guess they're based off of a book by Steve Harvey, who I don't like, so I'm predisposed to dislike the subject material. I'll be giving it a skip unless it comes on TV and I have nothing else to do. I don't really watch many movies nowadays either (probably less than 10 movies a year), so there will likely be other movies that have piqued my interest to go through before getting to this one.

While this forum isn't "nerd-only," the only things I'm surprised don't get posted about are the newest Sci-Fi and Fantasy movies and books. For example, there's no thread about Edge of Tomorrow, which has been a huge science fiction blockbuster. That surprises me far more than the lack of a thread for Think Like a Man Too.

Please let it go. His comment was not racist or whatever you're are trying to prove here. I certainly am not the target audience of this movie and I think the same goes for many of the posters here. Not because of skin color but because of preferences and interests in genres.

Well, Tirith has been kind of covering that angle. The threads get a few interested parties. Straight sci-fi doesn't really appeal to me unless there's a hook. Like comics or sharks.

I'm surprised at the box office numbers for Edge of Tomorrow as well because the few passing mentions I've seen of it didn't (and still doesn't) make it sound appealing. Then again, the new Transformers movie also did well and I'm constantly confused by Michael Bay movies.

As far as the topic itself, it looks like Black Hangover.

My comment was racist. In the same way that telling a woman to get into the kitchen and make me a sammich is sexist. But much like the "sammich" comments, commenting that only black people like Tyler Perry is usually taken as a joke.

Yes I worded that poorly in my annoyed state. I wanted to say that I did not think of you as a racist because of your previous comments and that this discussion is tiresome and unnecessary.

And I'll stand by my assertion. I'm focusing on your demographic comments, which was not one of your off colored comments. My original post was a real post, obviously the "surprised" part was sarcasm. Somehow we spoke past each other in our references.

Didn't say 'twas racist. You're making that assertion. If you don't like comedy movies, then that's fine, but your demographic was most definitely in the target audience for the movie.

You're being awfully defensive for no reason. I also made a post on "The Best Man Holiday". There weren't any responses, no complaints, no "it doesn't belong here" or anything along those lines. If you're going to say that a particular movie doesn't fit, then you should be able to defend your statement or take it back. It's really that simple.

If this were a "nerds only" forum, then you would have a point. But you can't say that this forum is exclusive to nerd movies, all of the other genres that are on here don't count. Take sports for example. This forum isn't big on sports and I was surprised that there wasn't an Olympics thread, but every year we have a hockey thread and we also have a world cup thread. I think there have been some March Madness threads as well. So, even though sports isn't popular in this forum, it's still discussed. So, if you're going to say that something doesn't belong, then you should be able to explain why.

Usually I'm fairly decent at picking up sarcasm, but that went right by me.

I generally don't pay attention to all-black comedy movies and shows. In the past, I've given some of them a shot, but they often seem to rely somewhat heavily on cultural humor. While I can see the comedic value in this type of humor, it is not usually relatable for me. Which is fine. I'm not the target demographic, and I'm perfectly fine with there being entertainment out there that isn't aimed at me.

I'm not defensive. I'm tired of you gnawing this argument like a dog who can't let go of his favourite bone. And noone said this movie does not belong here. Tirith just said that in his opinion the average ZAM poster has a rather low interest in this kind of movie. That was (imo) entirely because of your surprise in the opening post. Not because he wanted this thread to be deleted or whatever. And that was what I said, too.
Do we have to rephrase that for you another 5 times or is this sufficient?

My first "demographic" comment was a "black people" joke about Tyler Perry.

My second use of "demographic" really was just about looking at the active posters of this forum and the current topics (not counting the... 25-30% of them which are mine talking about TV shows) and thinking this comedy movie really doesn't seem to fit the usual posters here, so it's no surprise that the discussion didn't already exist.

The majority of this forum is some anime, some books, comic book/movies, some popular shows (walking dead, game of thrones) and then me posting about every television show I'm currently watching hoping people talk with me about it. Not saying the other stuff doesn't belong, just it's not surprising that it doesn't exist.

(I am disappointed that more people don't like Clarence as much as I do Smiley: frown)

I watched the first Think Like a Man, I think it was on Comedy Central one afternoon maybe? Or some other network. I didn't enjoy it much, it fits nicely in one of those "fill in a boring afternoon" times like most shows that air in the afternoons. But it's not really a movie I would spend money to see. I watched all the hangover movies, but only on DVD borrowed from someone or on the movie channels after they were in theaters.
