The first series was just a short story, a metaphor about anti-gay people and hypocrisy.

I didn't expect a second series, but it came out two weeks ago, and now it's not really about the anti-gay, but just intolerance in general. How the zombies deal with being rehabilitated, put back into society and being forced to abandon their zombie "culture", the discrimination, hatred, etc. And how the different groups of non-zombies deal with the same.
