"We don't just borrow words; on occasion, English has pursued other languages down alleyways to beat them unconscious and rifle their pockets for new vocabulary." — James D. Nicoll

So one day I'm riding in a car with a family friend who's a few years older than me. He's got the latest Depeche Mode Album in his cassette player and is blaring "People are People". And he's raving about this great new comic book that just came out and how it'll be the greatest thing ever, and I should seriously start collecting it. Of course, I politely nodded and went along, but the whole time I'm thinking "Mutated Turtles trained in ninjistu? Really? That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard of. No way I'm wasting my money on that!"
Yeah. It's just one of those random memories that crops up from time to time.

I had similar thoughts and conversations - until I fell in love with Michelangelo.
Then along comes Sponge Bob Squarepants.....
I'll never again try and predict which cartoons will be hits.
Meh, I thought the trailer was decent. Most of it was worryingly action-oriented, but there were fewer explosions than expected and the end does give me hope that it will keep the charm. I'm cautiously optimistic.
I'm just thinking about the first 3 movies and compare them. I can't remember how good/bad they were. I just remember the first one being more realistic looking and "Go Ninja Go Ninja Go". It maybe like Batman, where it takes a couple of movies before they get it right.
I'll be seeing it. My childhood revolved around TMNT. Heck... I still buy the toys (I need a few more to have all of what is current). I just love TMNT. It is one of them things, it brings me joy.
This movie... I dunno. I'm going in with an open mind.
On the subject of TMNT...there is a new comic that started up over a year (maybe 3 now?) ago. However you find the means to do so, I highly suggest you read it. There is the main story line and many Micro and Side stories that add to it. Also the artist! So many good artists have done issues.
Also last time I watched, the new Cartoon was doing well.
I went and saw this, this morning. Thanks broken ankle! It wasn't bad. If you are a fan of TMNT, you should see it. If you are a die hard fan of the old comic, you should go in with an open mind or skip it. I grew up with the original cartoon and movies, and my youngest brother grew up with the re-boot back in the early 2000s. We both liked.
So I'll spoil what makes this telling a little different: -So in this movie the turtles and splinter were lab pets being used in testing/the creation of an mega anti-[insert plague] project. -They were the "pets" of a young April. Named and colored (for testing, named via 10-12yr old) -She saved them during a fire, by putting them out on a street in NYC where they fell into a drain. -Splinter mutated much faster, and took on the role as father. As the turtles got older (lets say the age of 6-8) he knew someday they would be needed "up-top." He found a book of martial arts, tought himself 1st, and then the boys.
What I did not like: -Shredder's face is never reviled, but you go see some scars. So no "back" story with him, other then he is evil with this "master plot of an idea" -His armor is Samurai meets new-age tech. He could throw a fan of knives, and then through Hollywood magic/gravity/magnets (how do they really work?) recall them back to fan around again. -There was NOTHING after the creds. This movie ends very similar to the 1st OG movie. Shredder "dies" with ooze/mutagen (should be assumed, absorbed into him), that in the very next scene is shown to help their father live. But NOTHING. -The turtle's noses. I know turtles have beaks, but they almost had a human nose. -Splinter. I don't know. I'm a fan of old way of him being the pet of a martial arts master and/or the reincarnated martial arts master (reincarnation is used in the new on-going comic). I do not like this self-made guru He also looked odd.
And then there was a jab that only a few got/laughed at At one moment Arnett's character questions something along the lines of: "are they aliens?" and Megan Fox (April) says "no, don't be stupid, they are mutants."
I just got back from seeing it. The theater was packed. I chose a wrong time to go.

(Not a comic reader here, just a person who watched cartoons a long time ago and the old movies): - Very little Shredder info in the movie. You could kind of make out his face when you first met him. It was dark but it was clearly scared, and appears possibly burnt in color. But there is no character there beyond big knives. I didn't mind his costume too much, but wished they had given him some type of back story. We understood Sacks' motivation. Destroy the world, become it's savior, get lots of money from the Government. But there was no reason given for Shredder's role in the whole thing. Sacks made a better villain than shredder. Hell, they could have made Sacks Shredder, just putting him inside the metal Samurai suit like in the X-men movie and it would have made for a better Shredder. And Karai... Shredder and Karai were lacking in terms of anything. I think I only heard her name mentioned once.
- The Turtles' costumes did not bother me. I liked that each one was a little different physique, rather than just nearly identical with a different colored mask. The nose/beak thing didn't bother me at all.
- Splinter. He bothered me. His voice seemed wrong, and his look was wrong. I really didn't like the way he looked. He was the biggest disappointment of the whole movie.

Absolutely no one laughed at this in the entire audience. I smiled and did the "ha" through your nose thing, but there was no laughter, no comments from the peanut gallery, at all. I think the audience was about 70% children ages 3-8 and 25% reluctant parents chaperoning.

It isn't Vanilla Ice...
I stayed through the pre-credits to listen to the song. I did not care for it too much.
It wasn't a bad movie. But I can't say it was good. If I could go back and chose whether or not to see it, I'd probably still go see it. Not as bad as the 20% Rotten score would suggest, but that 65% Audience score... pretty accurate. Not much there in terms of story, but the action sequences weren't enough to make up for it. I enjoyed the Transformers movies more... all of them.
Tomorrow I'll probably go see Lucy (I'm stuck in a hotel for a couple weeks).
Still haven't seen it, but I guess it did well enough to justify a sequel. Baxter Stockman has been cast, so I guess the Mousers are all going to have rocket launchers and fat suits. Also Stephen ArnellAmell (damn r n and m lookin' the same ...), Oliver Queen of Arrow fame, is cast as Casey Jones (admittedly neat), and Megan Fox and Will Arnett are returning.

Bebop & Rocksteady confirmed, which kind of gives me a geek *****. Or ti would if I saw the 1st one.

I watched the first and when the credits rolled and I saw that Michael Bay was NOT the director, that was a huge surprise. The movie throws every Bay-ism there is constantly in your face. It was pretty much the Transformers with animals instead of robots.
