The movie did create a lot of hype and I’m glad that the outcome was satisfactory. It was a lot like the previous versions but it carried a lot of style accompanied by classy looks. Overall great summers treat!

Um, no.

How man of Steel should have ended. Figured you all would like this.

Sadly, that was actually better than the movie.

So apparently the movie did better than I was lead to believe, and it's leading to a sequel guest starring Batman, but not Christian Bale as the Dark Knight.

I know I'm super late to this party as well, but this movie didn't live up to my expectations. Waaaay too much hype, and the trailers were way too artsy for the movie's own good. The first 30 minutes were like a roller coaster ride through space-Narnia. Then came weird flashbacks that skipped through 10 seasons of Smallville really fast, and then the rest of the movie was way too much **** happening at once with not nearly enough explanation as to why.

Like, why is Lois Lane on a military aircraft on a suicide run towards an alien mothership? Why does every Kryptonian, capable of moving at super-speeds, just stand there and take the hit when an opponent prepares a super-charge? You'd think the other one could just dodge it, but they all take it to the face and get thrown through a million buildings.

The CGI was pretty good, although some of the flying scenes were a bit odd. I missed the lack of slow motion, though. Like when they're doing stuff at super-speed, it's just pow! and ten buildings explode before you realize it's because Superman/Zod was knocked through them all.

Speaking of collateral damage, what was going on there? It's like they all went out of their way to wreck as much **** as possible while fighting. Military shoots missiles into a populated area to kill three aliens, despite the fact that one of them is clearly fighting the other two. Then more pow!, zoom!, swish! and diesel trains are flying through the air, crashing the parts of town that weren't destroyed by missiles, Superman fighting Whatsherface, and A-10's crashing into the ground (by ground, I mean any nearby building, instead of the thousands of acres of farmland surrounding the town).

Couldn't help but wonder how much blood and muscle tissue Superman would have to clean off his suit after he got knocked through a seemingly populated building at the speed of a bullet. And no, the fight wasn't that great, because the collateral damage distracted me from the fight, and it was basically a remake of the Agent Smith vs Neo fight in Matrix Revolutions.

Wish they'd spent just a bit more time on Clark growing up in Smallville instead of 30 minutes on Pandora, followed by Zod wrecking Metropolis and Superman not saving anyone except Lois (he seemed like he couldn't be ***** even in that scene).

Meh, it looked promising, but in the end it was just another Superman flick. Unlike other Superman flicks, though, this one seemed almost ashamed to show off his superpowers. You get a small preview when he's doing the super strength thing on the oil rig, but that's about it. The rest of the time, his super powers are hidden behind a blur of movement.

Good movie, but not what I'd hoped for. Best thing about it was that the new Superman costume didn't look as silly as I'd feared.

Well, it is a pretty impossible task for them to outdo Superman 3.

Superman 3 was... well, Superman 3.

Man of Steel was better, but it still felt like Snyder and Nolan tried to accomplish way too much in not enough time.

Some interesting food for thought, though I don't think Lex is quite that admirable? Maybe I need to read the comics...

This
explains it pretty well, I guess. In the only Superman comic I've ever read, Lex gets called out for never actually doing anything to help, even when Superman's gone.

Just saw it a couple of days ago, too.

I thought that was odd too. As well as the scientific advisor of the military being there. I'm no expert of military operations but I would expect people like them to stay behind.

I gave him a pass the first time because he was more or less out of his mind after they threatened his mother. But he never even tried to move the fight out of the inhabited areas in the following fightscenes. Which seemed pretty strange behaviour for a superhero.
