Tonight is/was the series premiere. Overall, it was as much as I had expected.

They did add the bit at the end with Taylor's son being some sort of genius with the "real answer" to why Terra Nova was created. Alternate timeline, so what ever they do doesn't affect the future, etc, etc.

I'm not expecting more than 1 or 2 seasons. But I will be watching it just because it seems it comes on the same block as House. And while I expect this is the last season of House, I will be watching that just because I've watched the last seasons, why stop now. Maybe Fox is hoping people will watch Terra Nova for the same reason, even if they aren't too big on watching TV at that time just for that show.

(And the only other topic was the OoT Super Bowl thread.)

I enjoyed it and hope it does well. I'm not a fan of Taylor's son's plot line already though and it really hasn't even begun yet.

The commercials did nothing for me. That coupled with my general boycott of anything created by Fox (not for political reasons, they just have a habit of canceling every show I like and letting absolute garbage run for years on end) means I probably won't be bothering with this show.

I'm kinda on the fence. There have been a lot of sci-fi-ish series of late and far too many of them end out suffering from BSG-itis (far too many internal plots and fighting for a population which should be dependent on eachother for survival). If they can tone that down a bit, it may be a decent series.

Some speculation:

I suspect that the probe did show up, but it was discovered long ago and kept hidden (duh! Wouldn't you know about it all along?). Perhaps even the drive to find the rift and use it came about because some secret society of folks found the probe in the first place. That could explain the sixers and the apparent influence of whomever they represent on those in charge of the rift. Not sure if they're there to cause changes, or prevent them yet. It would be a significant plot twist since it would mean that they're actually changing their own timeline (and perhaps that was the original intent?). Not sure how well that would work given the time frame involved, but it would be an interesting twist.

I also suspect there's a lot more that Taylor knows about what's really going on then he's letting on. One of the things I do like so far is that he's being played as a nice guy, but also comes off as very fanatical about the "success" of the colony. But success at what? Hmmmm...

I'll watch it. Like I said, as long as they don't get into having characters do uncharacteristic (and stupid!) things just to maintain some sort of drama, it'll probably be ok. One of the first concerns I have about this is the stupid kids side story. They sneak out of the camp to make a still and get drunk? Really!? And they've found these symbols out there, with no explanation as to who wrote them on a world that is supposedly uninhabited by anyone and they don't tell anyone because they don't want to get in trouble? Um.... That's a bad strike against it already. It just seems so contrived to ensure that different groups of people will all have secrets. If they come clean at some point (sooner rather than later) and some information sharing and side selecting happens, then there's hope. If they continue to try to keep everyone's loyalties shifting just for the sake of doing it, it'll suck. Bad.

I watched the first episode last night to get caught up before show 2 tonight.

I really liked Taylor. Of course my head immediately tried to turn him into the same type-cast heartless militant he was in Avatar. I was pleasantly surprised that he acted his way into a much more interesting character.

The plot seemed a bit too scripted for a first show. I'd rather have gotten to know the characters a bit more before all the revealed foreshadowing and life-or-death drama.

The dino's were fun. They'll keep me watching it for now.

Enjoyed last night's episode, but won't keep watching it if every week becomes a find new dinosaur and ensuing problem, resolve problem, everything's fine routine. After throwing in so much crap in episode one to set up a storyline, they, for all intents and purposes, completely ignored it in the 2nd episode.

The swarm of the dino-birds seemed to have been all about interrupting some long put-off sex and, simultaneously, explore the past relationship between the Doc-wife and the other Doc.

It was okay. Too many commercials - not enough colonizer-eating t-rex.

It's very like "The Outcasts" except with dinosaurs. The Outcasts REALLY ought to have been called "Carpathia", which was the name of the new, alien, hostile planet the remaining remnants of humanity were colonising after some catastrophe took down Earth. Really loved Carpathia, and was pissed as hell when they canned it.

Enjoying it so far. It's a bit contrived and it seems to me that Steven Spielberg really wanted to draw some comparisons to Avatar (I mean really Stephen Lang was plucked out of Avatar and put on Terra Nova sans facial scar and his female military sidekick is Michelle Rodriguez).

But it'll keep me happy until Falling Skies is back on the air next year.

It looks like they may be getting back to the main story after a couple little side stories dealing with Jim? and his relationship with the Wife and the Ex-boyfriend.

I liked last nights episode. When I ponder the start-up of a new civilization one of the things that always comes into my mind is 'justice'. Clearly in Terra Nova they don't yet have the means to deal with crimes with a full-fledged justice system as we're used to. Besides, who's to say our system can't be improved upon.

Anyways, last night episode, with a fairly believable story-line delved into crime, punishment, coercion and humanity.

...and they're growing a baby dino!

Did anyone watch the final episode?

I did. It wasn't too bad. Josh still needs to die.

Final as in series end? Or final as in season finale?

So far, season finale. I haven't heard anything about series finale. It was a 2 hour special. I didn't catch it, I was playing Portal, and then realized I had missed the first hour of it so I just decided to watch it later on Fox.com

I'll have to see tonight if it's up, or if I need to wait til Tuesday.

Fox doesn't unlock their shows until 8 days after it airs. And unfortunately Charter doesn't have Fox on their TV On Demand lineup. Charter and Fox must not have an agreement, since Charter customers aren't allowed to watch shows next day like a few other providers are.

Fox actually hasn't made a decision yet as to whether to renew the show or not. A few of the stars had their options picked up by Fox which shows that Fox is leaning to renewing for at least another season. But studios have also been known to pay the options but then change their minds and not move forward with projects.

I just watched the finale. It wasn't bad.

Seems they left it open for another season. Lucas lives, there is a potential rift to the 1800s, and likely a third separate timeline, in the "badlands". I thought for sure they were going to go the route of Terra Nova actually being the very very distant future rather than the past, explaining why they never found the probe when they sent it back (rather than it being a separate timeline like initially thought). The badlands containing remnants of some structure that had survived. I did think it was fun when they snuck the Dino back to the future.

Finale was good in that it mostly tied up all the current storylines. So if Fox decides to kill this show, at least they won't have a cliffhanger sitting out there with no resolution whatsoever like Tru Calling or The Dead Zone.

I think they actually advertised it as a 'season' finale, but I can see where the show might not make another season.
