They made 4 new OVA for higurashi 10 years anniversary called Higurashi no naku koro ni kira. The first one just came out. You will be very disappointed if you're expecting something similar to the original serie though. looks like they traded the mystery/horror of the original for hentai.

I demand compensation for you bringing this up to my attention.

Totally not hentai. I am teh disappoint.

(Half of it is basically ero penalty games, the other half is delusional takes on that where the fantasies get twisted, and it ends with Tomitaki, Oisshi, and Irie ganging up on Kei, with implied gang-rape overtones. Creepy, and totally not worth watching, no real fan service to speak of).

Blood C - [Recommend Watching] - Part of the Blood universe (apparently the manga started only a few months ago?). This time, Saya is a shrine maiden and has a much stronger resolve for action. She is aware of the monsters she needs to slay, but possibly not yet aware of her own abilities. Other than being part of the Blood universe, this is not a sequel or retelling as far as I'm aware. Expect action, sword fighting, and lots of blood.
Could anyone add some clarity to this? I really enjoyed both the original movie (which I haven't seen in a loooong time) as well as Blood+. Is this supposed to be another segment of Saya's life, between two of her past periods of sleep, or a completely new plot (perhaps just using her backstory)?

In either case, I'll need to look into that...
After the first four episodes, it seems this is yet another moment in Saya's life between her periods of rest, but does not seem to be related to past events in previous works.

No. 6 episode 4, otherwise known as "I can no longer take this show seriously." It might be a good series, but that enjoyment has been usurped by my urge to mystery science theater. I've jsut been commenting to some friends over skype as I watch it and...

"[8:21:49 PM] Allegory: So the man-woman not only raises dogs, which her tenants sleep with, but she-he herself was raised by a dog, who teets she sucked on for milk."

That just made it more appealing to me.

I'm not sure on whether I should touch Usagi Drop. From what I've heard I expect it to be good, but there is the dilemma of choosing the anime or the manga.
Apparently you can also take a third option on August 20th.

Too bad I can't tell Asians apart. Exactly who is supposed to be the middle aged man and who is the girl? I don't know!

That's kind of awesome Smiley: lol I've been enjoying this series so far, despite dubious genders and sexual orientations.

Penguindrum episode 5 Don't mess with Ringo! Also I suspect that the diary itself isn't the penguindrum, but it's one of many special items people have, with the red haired woman having her memory erasing slingshot. Kanba may have been given such an item in the first episode when Survival Strategy pulled something out of him.

Penguindrum was pretty good for an episode. In other news, No. 6 is getting gayer and gayer Smiley: lol I seriously thought there was going to be some guy-on-guy kissing near the end.

Technically it's "gero."

It's hard to decide what was most horrifying there. A frog spawning on your back? The ****** it seemed to be having by doing so? Ringo's enthusiasm for it? That the spawning looked like pink ****? Or No 2.'s consumption of the freshly laid eggs?

Honestly I was surprised just how shoujo it got. They forgot all about the conspiracy for several episodes and focused largely on feelings. They have two episodes to wrap up the plot, and I don't see it as being very promising.

Holy crap, the Dogkeeper in No. 6 is a BOY!? I feel like I just had a reverse-Eurotrip pulled on me. This series is soooo shoujo-bordering-on-yaoi. Still pretty good though. Dammit, Eurotripped again. Looks like I was right the first time!

And in case anyone forgot, Steins; Gate is still freaking amazing. Seriously, it might be the best series I've seen since Higurashi (roughly the same genre, horror/psychological/mystery, but with a lot less gore).

That's a bit more like the uncle you wish wouldn't show up every holiday and drink all the alcohol in the house then go on drunken rants about "those damn liberals." He's going to be there every time whether you want him there or not, but you don't call Christmas "Uncle Jimmy's 'drink the pain away'" night.
