I was going to wait a bit longer, but after watching a few shows, I just had to make the thread. Just a note- I don't read manga, so there's a whole side to all of these I do not know.

Mawaru Penguin Drum - [Highly Recommend] - Focuses on trio of siblings (two boys, one girl). One day, the sister collapses and dies, but is revived (and possessed) by a penguin queen shortly after. The two boys see this as a miracle, but at what price? The director of this show is the same man who produced Revolutionary Girl Utena.

Kamisama no Memo-chou
- [Recommend Watching] - Story of a self-proclaimed NEET detective. This girl tries to solve various mysteries with rarely leaving home and never going into public. Her detective agency is called "It's The Only NEET Thing to Do" and has several NEETs assisting her. I thought the show seemed interesting, reminds me of Gosick, actually.

Kamisama Dolls - [Too Early to Tell] - In the world of this anime, people called "Seki" are those who share their hearts and control large (about 10 ft. tall) dolls refered to a "Kamisama Doll." Years ago, when the protagonist was a seki, he was part of a horrifying event and has since given up on becoming a full fledged seki. Now that he is older and attending school in Tokyo, his past is about to return to give him more trouble. Still on the fence about this, so not sure if I recommend it.

Mayo Chiki - [Mediocre] - Male protagonist discovers the butler of the idol of his school is actually a woman when everyone believes her to be a guy. Shortly after, he learns the butler is extremely violent and worse yet, the idol is actually a ******. Since the butler's secret can not be revealed, the two women are sure to abuse the protagonist. Fan service, ecchi, sadism- pretty much sums up this show.

Usagi Drop - [Recommended] - Going home for his grandfather's funeral, thirty-year-old bachelor Daikichi and his family are shocked to discover that the old man had an illegitimate child with a younger lover, but not one of them wants anything to do with the silent little girl, Rin. In a fit of angry spontaneity, Daikichi decides to take her in himself! I'm expecting this show to be kind of cute, but I really don't know.

Ikoku Meiro no Croisée - [Too Early to Tell] - An old, traveling merchant from victorian period France returns home bringing with him a small Japanese girl named Yune. The merchant asks his grandson Claude to take care of the girl in addition to him already running the family store- a metallic crafts shop. From here, the show focuses on Yune and Claude learning about the other's culture. I did not find this show show exceptionally interesting, but I think it has potential.

iDOLM@ASTER - [Boring] - Anime based on the game of the same name. Focuses on 13 girls trying to become idols in Japan.

No. 6 - [Mediocre] - Shion, the main character of this show, is a genius student living in a paradise of a city. He is a very curious person and instead of being scared of anything dangerous, he uses the opportunity to admire and learn more about the experience. One day, Shion meets an escaped prisoner which leads him believe this city he lives in isn't all it appears to be. Doesn't look bad, but nothing yet to really make it stand out.

Blood C - [Recommend Watching] - Part of the Blood universe (apparently the manga started only a few months ago?). This time, Saya is a shrine maiden and has a much stronger resolve for action. She is aware of the monsters she needs to slay, but possibly not yet aware of her own abilities. Other than being part of the Blood universe, this is not a sequel or retelling as far as I'm aware. Expect action, sword fighting, and lots of blood.

Itsuka Tenma no Kuro Usagi - [Too Early to Tell] - As a child, Taito once made an pact with a magical girl named Himea to love and serve her forever. Nine years later, Taito has forgotten the pact and Himea is sapped of power and a prisoner in a different dimension. One day, Taito saves a girl who is about to be run over by a large truck. This action triggers a series of events that allows Himea to escape from her prison and opens Taito up to a world he had long forgotten. The show seems interesting enough, so it might be worth watching.

Sacred Seven - [Mediocre] - The stage is a certain port city within the Kantou region. There resides Tandouji Arma, who lives a lonely and solitary life. One day, he is approached by Aiba Ruri who asks for his help, for the power of the Sacred Seven which resides within Arma. He is to help Aiba Ruri and her "foundation" (an army of maids) with his power as a Lightstone (someone who can control their powers) to fight the Darkstones (someone who has lost control of their powers). I'm really not expecting much from this, but it reminds me of s-CRY-ed and that turned out ok.

Nekogami Yaoyorozu - [Mediocre] - Story focuses on a trouble causing cat god that was stripped of most of her powers and banished to Earth until she is invited back into her own realm. From the start, she has many other friends who all serve as the city's local guardian deities. I got a few chuckles out of this, but wasn't really anything worth mentioning.

Manyuu Hikenchou - [Skip] - The boob anime this season, if anyone is interested.

Yuru Yuri - [Unknown] - Looks like the next K-ON! clone without a band, haven't watched it myself, any input?

Ro-Kyu-Bu - [Unknown] - Looks like the next K-ON! clone without a band, haven't watched it myself, any input?

Blade - [Unknown... but skip anyway] - Anime based on the Blade movies. Plot involves Blade running into vampire trouble while visiting Japan. Have not watched, no plan to either.

Uta no Prince Sama - [Unknown] - Reverse harem show. Haven't watched, any input?

R-15 - [Skip] - High school student who writes **** novels is accepted into a prestigious school and uses his writing abilities to compete in a school-wide competition.
LockeColeMA wrote:
Watched 10 minutes of it. That was pretty much enough to write it off unless I hear something better. It's harem and fan service, and the fan service is mostly censored (lots of cleavage, but not even panty shots). The dialogue was terrible too; "This is my friend, who is a math genius. Oh look, there's the new girl, clarinet genius." Thanks, introduce everyone and their one defining characteristic at once. Then back to the fan service! Bah, at least have a good story...

Baka To Test To Shoukanjuu Ni! - Second season, if anyone is interested.

Dantalian no Shoka - [Recommend Watching] - Protagonist Huey discovers the world of phantom books, grimoires that posses magical properties. Along with a Victorique-like girl (knowledgable, arrogant) and the power of hundreds of phantom books, Huey travels to appraise book collections while also solving mysteries brought about through misused phantom books. While the plot may fall flat eventually, it is definitely the most beautiful. Many of the environments are wonderfully painted and the background music is a collection of sweet melodies. Even a portion of the show is dedicated to poetry.

I'll add any other shows people mention in this thread.

Holy crap. They've made Usagi Drop into an anime? Sweet! It's one of my favorite mangas.

Last Exile 2. It's already mind fudging trying to decide whether to watch it as it airs (to be involved in discussions and avoid spoilers) or to properly wait till it ends and watch it all in one go.

The end of the first episode is Revolutionary Girl Utena to the T. I expect this one to get weird.

Just watched episode one. All I can really say is that it's gonna be one I follow, I absolutely love the art style and so far it seems to be staying true to the manga(that last one is kinda hard to judge on only one episode, however).

Just watched the first episode; was pretty interesting and left me very much going "WTF?". Assuming it doesn't go overboard on fan service, incest, or lesbians (hey, it's from the guy who produced Utena, after all, my girlfriend and I will have a blast watching it. She loves penguins, I love randomness, and we both love anime Smiley: lol

I'm almost positive that I read this manga a long time ago. I seem to recall really liking it, but I felt it ended too quickly and the sudden jump to the girl's highschool years was jarring. Plus her guardian never hooks up with anyone, right? And that made me sad. I did really really enjoy the part before then, however.

Speaking of this season, I didn't realize that Hanasaku Iroha was going to be longer than 13 episodes. I'm still enjoying it, so I'll go ahead and throw it in here as something folks should pick up if they haven't already. It's Slice of Life-ish, but a little different and I like it better than most.

I watched the first episode of Sacred Seven. It was like reading the shounen cliches list from tvtropes. I kept muttering to myself "everyone inexplicable everything." If a bunch of teenage girls dressed as maids walked into a public place and started acting like the police my first thought would not be "these guys seem legit."

Not like I'm a connoisseur of all things ecchi, but if you're gonna make a series like that, make it full-blown or nothing. Pun intended.

If TVTropes is to be believed, then you're incorrect. He does hook up with someone. But you may not like who it is as it's kinda creepy.

No, seriously. It's creepy. Seriously, don't mouse over the spoiler below this.

It's Rin.

Goddammit it's Honey and Clover all over again.

I'm quite enjoying No. 6 so far. It seems very much like the kind of story I'll enjoy. Though certainly not a comedy, it has some great lines.

Main character "None of your business. Besides, have you even seen me naked?"
Guy who just abducted him "What if I said I had?"

And Safu is great in her straightforwardness. "I want your sperm."

Everything so far is great, but what will really make or break teh series is what the ultimate conspiracy turns out to be and the motivation behind it. If it's exceptionally stupid, it'd be hard to recover from that.

No. 6 is ok. It could go either way, but I'm expecting it to be pretty mediocre.

I'm pretending I never saw the first episode of Yuru Yuri, and just not going to continue with it.

Usagi Drop is easily my favorite new series so far.

Kamisama no Memo-chou will be a decent watch, though I'm not expecting it to blow my mind or significantly alter the way I view detective-ish anime series.

Could anyone add some clarity to this? I really enjoyed both the original movie (which I haven't seen in a loooong time) as well as Blood+. Is this supposed to be another segment of Saya's life, between two of her past periods of sleep, or a completely new plot (perhaps just using her backstory)?

In either case, I'll need to look into that...

Having read and watched both at least as far as the anime has gone, I don't think that quality of the adaptation or faithfulness to the manga will be a problem factor, if that's any help.

Ultimately, I'd think the real issues are whether you'd prefer to enjoy it as both a visual and auditory medium, but at the same time have to wait for episodes or if you'd rather be able to read through it at your own faster pace but lose the auditory element.

I watched the first episode of Kamisama Dolls and Blood C. Neither appealed to me very much and seemed to be fairly standard shounen fair.

Of what I've seen thus far, Mawaru Penguindrum and No. 6 are the highlight this season for me.

Unrelated sidenote: I just finished Ayakashi and was quite pleased, especially by the last fo the three tales. I'm looking forward to the spinoff Mononoke.
