Chances are anyone that follows comics to any degree, or the Colbert Report, already knows about this, but I thought I'd post it here as well.

I don't really follow DC, so someone is going to explain to me why Supes is going commie. I was under the impression that our Earth and DC Earth were completely different entities with basically no parallels (unlike Marvel). So is DC USA being pompous like Real USA? Does USA even actually exist in DC, because I've yet to find Gotham, Metropolis, and Keystone City. I really just don't understand the decision unless its some weird DC political statement on current events on Real Earth.

I also wonder if this is going to be like the umpteen times Captain America stopped being Captain America because he got disillusioned. Costume Change and/or Replacement/Stand-In Supes, maybe?

Also: Isn't Clark an illegal alien? Like I said, I don't follow DC but I don't remember where he took his citizenship test ...

I don't follow comics at all but heard about this on another forum. The short version is that SM attended some pro-Democracy rally in Iran, not as a superhero but just a warm body in the crowd. He was spotted and people flipped out about the US taking a role in the rally. Superman said "F dis noise, I can't even do anything I want to do without it turning into a political statement about the US" and renounces his citizenship. Symbolically, I guess, given his origins.

From what I understand, and I'm no authoritative source, the "...American way" bit was added in the 50's during Commie Hysteria, much like "...under God" in the pledge.

Did he show up as Superman? I mean, he has that handy-dandy secret identity thing. If he wanted to be a warm body in a crowd, he could have combed his hair, put on his glasses and let his Super Hypnotism take care of the rest.

I can understand wanting to get rid of the "... and the American way" bit, but this is an awful messy way to do so. And yes, I'm quite aware I'm thinking way too deeply into this.

According to the last Batman movie I saw, Gotham looked suspiciously like Chicago.

Illinois is the place to be if you want to be a superhero!

As for Superman, I guess the point was that he wanted to be able to do stuff as Superman and not have it all be reflective of US policy.

According to Frank Miller, Metropolis and Gotham both exists in NYC's area.

And previosly Neo Tokyo. Smiley: grin

Still clumsy storytelling.

What's funny about all this hoopla over Supes renouncing his citizenship is that not only does it not happen in Action Comics #900, that one panel in a side story (The main story has Supes fighting, who else, but Luthor who both learns & forgets Supess secret identity in the same issue!) is the only place it is mentioned.

Also, besides it being issue #900, it was nothing special.
