Now appearing on Mangastream, Silver Spoon is a manga by the mangaka of Fullmetal Alchemist. If you're expecting another hit shounen manga, then you'd be wrong. Silver Spoon will seem quite different from Arakawa's more famous works, but I think there's a lot that is the same. I already see Arakwas great balance attitude and respect for people showing in the manga. Her tone is so genuine in how she neither glorifies or dismisses the type of people she writes about. I like how the main character is entering the school for a somewhat selfish reason, and that it isn't going to be as easy as he thought. I like how quickly he gets a bit of humbling.

I'm not sure if I'll enjoy the subject matter of the series, but I definitely dig the tone.

Edit: haha, the physical examiner reminds me of Armstrong; I hope he's a permanent character.

And now you are obligated to read all of his lines in Christopher Sabat's voice.

For the record, Mangastream isn't actually picking the series up. They just did the first chapter. I'm not sure how I feel about it... but I definitely agree with Al. The tone and characters at least seem interesting. I just don't know if I want to read a manga about a farm school >_>.

It does seem fairly unique. I'm still on the fence as far as continuing. The problem with new mangas is that they're new. There aren't enough chapters to read to hook you. One chapter just isn't enough.

It seems unique alright...

I still like her art style, but a farm school? I'll keep an eye on this, but I sincerely don't expect this series to interest me much. Only time will tell.

I can't be the only one that thought of this and was deeply disappointed to find that this is sadly instead just an anime thread.

Edit: Goddamit Belkira, get out of my mind.

It looks like the first manga arc has ended, and so far I really enjoy it. A LOT of the characters appear eerily close to FMA. It's totally different than FMA, but I still found myself really enjoying the first 10 chapters. And after school days being beaten to death and not wanting another FMA clone, a story about an agricultural school is really refreshing,

I read it on mangafox, btw. If it gets licensed it will be pulled, but for now it's up: http://www.mangafox.com/manga/gin_no_saji/
