So me wanting to see this movie was somewhat of a joke amongst my friends. I finally got around to watching it, and it was quite hysterical, a keen example of so bad it's good.

I had realized the movie was based on a novel for children, but was I was previously unaware of and made to understand quite well in the movie was that it was based on novels for children, three specifically. The story is a complete narrative mess, introducing key characters and systems that are never addressed again. The band of owls that group together to find the Guardians during the second act of the movie? Completely gone from the third act.

The story features many ridiculous elements. It begins with the moonblinked owls, apparently staring too long at the moon causes them to become hypnotized, highly suggestible, and able to become a zombie workforce. The reason they are being forced to slave away? **** owls want to kill the Guardians and purify the world of every species except tyto owls. The **** owls are collected metal flecks from owl pellets to create a magical field which debilitates any birds inside by affecting their gizzards. Gizzards seemed to be a heart metaphor throughout the movie with quotes like "follow your gizzard," and "trust in your gizzard." It quickly evolved into something much, much more. Basically owls are Jedi, and their gizzard lets them sense the owl force. Eventually the owls do battle, which they carry out with armor and owl weapons. I had seen the owl armor in the trailers and so it was not too surprising. What I was not expecting was for some of the owls to wield swords.

For all the was bad in the movie, the voice acting and animation were quite excellent. I wonder how the animators and voice actors feel to have done their tasks so well only to have it squashed by the writers.

Kids should like it. Adults might be interested in something other than a B horror movie for a bad movie night.
