So I just ordered two Onion 365 day calenders from Amazon and was $5 short for the saver shipping (with shipping it still came out to $25, might as well get it free). So I started looking at titles. I ended up getting the complete series of Eden of the East on Blu-Ray. Cartoons aren't usually a medium I associate with HD as the quality of the animation/art doesn't seem to particularly require the format. Eden though is nice enough quality that I won't regret my purchase. Does anyone have any other good recommendations for Blu-Ray? Is it really necessary for any shows at this point since it always seems like the distro companies here seem to get off on making as much money on as little work as they can?

For that matter, anyone know of any decent invite only torrent sites?

It's hard to make anime suggestions for Blu-ray. I don't remember your tastes or what you've already seen, but as a general rule I'd say stick to recent series and ones that tend to involve a lot of action or detail to get the most out of the experience. Slice of Life just won't milk value out of blu-ray. Anime movies and OVAs will also probably tend to be better suited to blu-ray than television series.

A few series to look into might be Shigurui, Karas, Paparika, Hellsing Ultimate, The Animatrix, Tekkon Kinkreet.

I keep hearing about them, and I have no idea why people bother with these. The variety, total seeds, and release speed of any torrent is almost always going to be higher via public sites.

Pretty much. I personally use Tokyo Toshokan.

Oops, I meant to edit my last post, not make a new reply D;

Well, the reason I ask about the private sites is that a friend at work recently invited me to an HD only TV/movie site. You are correct in that there are more options and seeders out there on public sites, but the quality is guaranteed and they have a strict ratio rule. I've only downloaded two television episodes, but I capped out my downloads there instead of hitting the typical 100-500kb/s I usually get through public links. Then there's also the fact that I know I'm getting quality and the actual video without fear of virus and no worries if there are no comments on the tracker.

As for tastes, I'll watch any genre. Was just looking for any general recommendations. Thanks for the input so far.

I've been a member of Blackcats for abut 4 or more years now, they are private and honestly the ratio guidelines aren't terrible. Unfortunately they are game iso's only. They were talking about getting into tv, but nothing yet.

Private trackers are awesome, high speeds, and not having to load peerblock/gaurdian etc.

So... how does one get into these super awesome clubs filled with torrents of joy and rainbows, if one doesn't know anyone already in one?

I was a member of Blackcats for a couple of years until they mysteriously went down for a year or two. After they came back up, my account was no longer in their records.

Downloading the blu-ray of this now. It's going really slow but I have other things to do in the mean time. The anime selection on the site is really sparse but I was surprised to see it on there, I'm ready for some eye melting.

Honestly for Torrents don't worry about signing up somewhere anything and everything you could want to torrent is on http://tokyotosho.info/ in just about every release quality you can hope for. As for shows to watch in 1080p Kara no Kyoukai was ******* shiny.
