Future Diary, aka Mirai NikkiFollow

I just randomly chose this manga to start reading the other day, and only 6 chapters in I'm hooked. It reminds me a LOT of Higurashi no naku koro ni, in that I have noooo idea what's real and what's not and creepy stuff keeps happening. The series starts off introducing the main character (Amano) who is friendless and passes his day recording everything in a diary in his cell phone. He has an imaginary friend named Deus Ex Makina (hahaha), who controls time and space. Suddenly it seems Deus isn't so imaginary and gives Amano's cell phone a new power: the power to see all the entries he'll write in the future. It also puts him into a deadly game of survival, where 11 other cell phone users get similar upgrades and are pitted against each other. If they break their cell phones their future is effectively erased, killing them. The last survivor because Deus's successor.

The mindf*cks start coming early on. SpoilerThe school gets bombed early on, and it seems like several students die. Is Amano imagining this, or is it actually happening? Soon after, SpoilerAmano opens a door in Yuno's house to see what looks like a slaughterhouse in one of the rooms. After he runs home, Yuno takes a page straight out of Higurashi chapter 4, and looks at him with freaking creepy eyes through door. Now I'm on chapter 6, and some poor dude just got his head cut open by an ax. WTF?

I guess the biggest question is, is this all real?

I'm really enjoying it; apparently the series is still ongoing. Anyone else read it?

Holy crap, I'm really enjoying this. It has the creepiness of Higurashi, the mindplays of Death Note, a bit of gambling like Gamble Fish, and still a little bit of fan service! Plus I really like SpoilerYuno... although it seems like she's f*cking crazy.

Start reading, Pol! Although I agree this would make a really cool anime.

I personally turned my screen so someone would have to come around my desk to see it O:-)

The crazy ones are always the most fun. Granted, she might Spoilerlock me in a cage after and let me starve to death, but hey, it might be worth it.

That said, MOTHER@#%^ER, it goes right up to the climax of the series! There are probably only like 2-5 chapters left, ARGH!

Edit: Also, the ending is shaping up to be very Donnie Darko-esque.

SpoilerAccording to wikipedia, popular speculation says that Yuno is actually the winner of another round of the survival game, and came back from the parallel world to make sure Yuki wins this time. This explains why she can pass a retinal scan that only the Gasai family members should possess.

Personally I don't quite believe it, but it sorta makes sense. I think she's still going to betray Amano at the end.

Paradox was really interesting. I like Akise; he's kind of a pimp.

Enjoying Mirai Nikki greatly so far. There are quite a few plot holes, but they just don't matter. The plot is just to allow really messed up things to happen to really messed up people who do really messed up things, and I'll accept that.

Neat, Anime Highlander remake with future prediction.

Yuno is shaping up to be a pretty neat character.
