While on vacation last week, I was at a Borders and decided to utilize my birthday gift card and bought some books. As I'm quite partial to Dwarves in any series, I discovered Warhammer's Gotrek & Felix series by William King. On a whim, I bought every G & F book in the series.
The first book in the series and the first I read (as I usually try to do in book series) was Trollslayer (other titles include Skavenslayer (just started reading), Daemonslayer, Dragonslayer, Beastslayer, Vampireslayer, and Giantslayer).
I liked the grim and dangerous world setting and the Teutonic/Germanic tone was an interesting change of pace from your typical fantasy setting. I think King is a good writer and while I enjoy seeing Felix's character development, I would like to see more about Gotrek and the reason for his becoming a Slayer. Maybe I will see, since I've only read the first book and am barely into the second one, Skavenslayer.
Anyone else read this series? If so, what did you think? If not, I'd recommend them - much grimmer than Dragonlance and Forgotten Realms books (both series I've enjoyed for the most part - I only enjoy Dragonlance novels that deal with Dwarves, Gully Dwarves and Gnomes).
