Some of the half wits that get elected in rural areas of our province make me hope that voters don't expect their politicians to be more intelligent than them.

I think that was the original concept. I don't care if the person has an MD or not, but there is this level of expectation that the individual formally studied something relevant to what they are doing. At the same time, when I see congressmen and senators (some with the formal education), I shake my head and realize how knowledge isn't necessarily a precursor.

Not having any degree might be more of a sticker. I think that, for all people insult politicians and their intelligence, that they want to believe the guy they're voting for is smarter than the average bear and having a degree is a step along that path.

Nah, no one cares about that. If he lied about it or something, that'd be a problem. This is only an issue for him if some bizarre story comes out like he fled the campus to avoid a woman he raped or some other .001% likely thing.

I hear he's genuinely a nice a guy from people who have any experience working near him. Not particularly bright, but nice. Obviously I'd vote for Charles Manson if he was running on the Democratic ticket against a Walker campaign, so nice isn't worth much, but it makes him less annoying to me than McCain or other candidates past who were philosophically wrong and also ********.

I just think it's backwards that we fault both Clinton and Bush for what their relatives have done, but Walker gets a pass on something he did/didn't do? From what I hear, there was some political drama surrounding him dropping out of school. I think if it were uncovered that he dropped school because he cheated in an election, I think that would be a major thing. Ultimately, I don't think it matters, but I do find it backwards that we value things that candidates have no power over more than their education.

Walker's last semester was one where he ran for Student Council President and lost. Reports are that he liked running for offices (and losing) and kicking around, not so much going to class and getting grades. But he wasn't expelled or under disciplinary action or anything. Just kind of a slacker or unmotivated.

This was just linked to my fb page. Seemed relevant to the discussion.

Republican Voters Responding to Walker’s Opposition to Knowledge

Quote:
Walker’s longstanding opposition to knowledge may have faced its toughest test during a visit to London, on Wednesday, when an interviewer asked him if he believed in evolution and he refused to answer. “He tried to trick Governor Walker into admitting that he knew something, and Scott didn’t take the bait,” the aide said. “I was watching him do that and I was like, ‘Nailed it.’ ”

What's with all these hopefuls traveling to London to "burnish their foreign policy credentials"? That's like getting a job at Subway to burnish your culinary experience.

You wouldn't want to become a World Leader and look like an utter putz by never having left your own country, would you?

Yeah, but London is the softballiest of the softball places to go.

Of course, people still keep managing to fuck it up.

Canada's not considered international, is it? Just another state where you gotta deal with pesky "other" laws.

I mean, you would think so. I think they overestimate exactly how softball it is, though, and allow themselves to be lulled into a false sense of security. Then they say something stupid or offensive in what was meant to be a content and controversy free trip and end up pissing everyone off.

'I really like London... apart from the fact you're all commie bastards.'

I met Boris Johnson the other day. I'm going to assume they meet him and think "Well, this guy got elected there....so...."

To work together to reduce crime and create jobs which would have the ending result of reducing illegal immigration.

Random side note: Speaking of Mexico, does the filter work on foreign swear words as well?

That's a loser. No one wants you to create jobs in Mexico. They want you to create jobs in the US and then build a giant wall out of alligators so Mexicans can't have them.

Why not kill two birds with one stone, here? Pay Americans to guard the border in giant foam gator costumes. If Mexicans steal these jobs, well, ****, who cares. They'll bake to death just the same as the Americans.
