Our deployment is over, and we get to go home. The thing about deployments is that your whole company probably won't all go to the same place, maybe not even the same country. A few of us stayed in Jersey to deal with some day to day operations, but the majority of our guys went to Afghanistan. I'm happy to report no fatalities, and two "combat" related injuries. I quotation because one of those was during an attack that shook a gym and one of our guys got thrown off a treadmill. Yes, I will make fun of her over it. Overall, it was a successful mission and I'm delighted they're back.

Anyway, in about four hours the first shipment of people will be heading back home to settle back into their civilian lives, including myself. I've got up to a week of down time that I'm going to take advantage of before going back to the whole recruitment thing.

I'll probably see Guardians again, and start getting the house ready for the various winter changes.

Grats on the week off, and glad to hear people are coming back safe. Smiley: smile

I'm using this weekend to recover from a crazy week that much is certain. We had my boss and another person out of the lab this week on vacation, so it's been extra work here and doing extra e-mail at home in the evenings. Also add in a visit from my mother (which is extremely stressful and frustrating as of late) and having to explain the birds and the bees to my oldest (how the heel did I get stuck with that job?). Yeah, I'm so ready for a day off. Smiley: lol

Maybe we'll go to the river for a couple of hours, that sounds like fun.

You're a scientist, you can probably make it sound the most complicated and uninteresting.

Also gratz on the week off lolgaxe.

The other half is actually better at that. She'll string together a bunch of big words to describe something simple. It usually ends with an annoyed look from our daughter (who usually didn't understand any of it) and an abrupt change in topic.

But seriously, if the wife rolls over and pretends to be sleeping again next time I'm going to get the kids banging on pots or something. Smiley: glare

I think I'm having wine tonight. It's been a while.

Someone is getting married somewhere. No one I know, but the consequences means extra young peoples staying at my house this weekend. The two temporarily living with us + 2 more. Husband and I will be taking to the backyard movie theater for tonight.

Any suggestions on a netflix movie to watch?

Congrats on a successful deployment lolgaxe. Enjoy remedial treadmill training. Smiley: grin

I'm thinking of seeing TMNT tomorrow. It's only like 6.50 down here in Kentucky for a ticket.

It's getting panned by the critics (21% on Rotten Tomatoes). I still want to see it.

One review I read compared Shredder to a Swiss Army Knife. I lol'ed.

It was pretty much guaranteed to get smeared on Rotten Tomatoes. I don't really trust that site for the most part.

Transformer Age of Extinction has something less than 20% on it right now. But I still annoyed the movie enough to not think I wasted time or money.

Well, that's one approach to the problem.

I'm still recovering from last weekend. I had the last 3 days by myself, so work on some new jewelry and such.

Tomorrow I may use henna to dye my hair deep red.

Sunday I'm going to spend some time with my daughters and see Measure for Measure with them, to help celebrate middle daughter's birthday.

Right now I'm wondering if Jonwin will be home in the next hour, or if he made it into the semi-finals at board gaming convention, he is at. Then I can expect him around 11pm this evening. Not sure what game he is playing. Do know that the last year's Football Strategy champion beat him again this year and then went on to win the title again.

Last week I saw a pretty epic concert (Offspring, Bad Religion, Pennywise and The Vandals), which is the most interesting thing i've done lately. I've been so busy at work lately that I just haven't felt like doing much. This weekend, I may look into getting a new cell phone. Right now I'm leaning towards a Galaxy S 5, but I'm not sure yet.

This was a crazy week at work for me and I'm totally fried, so there will be lots of wine tonight and Rift. Tomorrow I plan to lay in bed as much as possible.

I discovered that the big 3d printer has a tiny grain of rice sized fuse on its main controll board the hard way while printing upgrade parts for the smaller one, which is halfway taken apart to fit those parts. so, I kind of don't have a functional 3d printer this weekend unless the replacement fuse gets here tomorrow by some miricle.

So, other projects will get worked on this weekend.

Penny Arcade has been on a theme for the last few weeks about the birds and the bees. Specifically, Gabe asking other web comic artists to explain them to his son. With predictably mixed results.

I think my favorite came from the comic artist who is a professional adult toy reviewer.

Bypass it with copper wire, what's the real likely-hood you overvolt something else before the new one gets there?

Check your local auto store to see if they have a matching voltage fuse, THEN use it and the copper wire to bypass it.

I'm not entirely sure why the first one blew yet. I might also have a thermistor or heater core short, and if thats the case bypassing it with copper would mean buying a new control board, which are not inexpensive.

I went and saw:

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Lucy
Hercules

It was better than being in a hotel room the whole time.

Were any of them any good?

I picked wild berries all weekend - chokecherries and blackberries. Now I've got a fridge full of berries I have to deal with. Smiley: tongue

None were really bad.

Lucy was a bit of science magic. Short and kind of "ugh" at times. Can't say I really recommend this one unless you like those pretend science shows on TLC and History. Being the only rated R movie of the bunch it had some different trailers including one for Fifty Shades of Grey. One older woman freaked out when she saw it. I bet her husband had fun that night based on how excited she got.

Hercules wasn't too bad. I didn't read into the movie at all so I expected something different than what it ended up being. What if Hercules was just a strong guy. Not a demigod. And none of the mythical stuff was real.

TMNT. Would been more enjoyable if the theater hadn't been full of 3-8 year old kids. I talked about it in the Movies forum.

I went to 2015 "Game Day" promotion for Magic: the Gathering and did better than expected, bought a new light/ceiling fan for the bedroom and found out that someone in Atlanta was using a dummy copy of my bank card. Fortunately, the bank noticed first and blocked the card before they could do too much and I'll get the rest back in a couple days after they make sure the charges go through (they might just drop off since they're now 'pending' against the closed account).

Good times!
