The trick to this is not to let the spray reach the house before you add flame. You want a very small fireball and never do it in the inside of house. I use to kill black widows on the outside of our house in CA this way. Inside we keep daddy long legs as pets. Never had to worry abut black widows in the house that way.

I use a candle lighter to kill black widows. Extra length and tightly controlled flame.

We've let a spider and her web live across our front door all summer. She's pretty fat. We've actually wiped out her web multiple times when we knew we had front-door visitors coming, or simply by accident (I've walked right through it at least once). She rebuilds quickly.

Her web won't impact the crazy mosquito population we're suffering with this summer, but I think it's caught a few ants trying to march into the house.

Well, yeah, but I'd never let a spider borrow it. That's just weird.

I don't use a vacuum in the garage.... Maybe a leaf blower, but then we'd blow the spider god knows where.

Better to just set it on fire. Smiley: nod

We wage war with flamethrowers, not vacuum cleaners. It's historical.

Black widows avoid daddy long legs?

The tall tales I've heard about daddy long legs is that their bite is very poisonous but they can't bite humans.

I was out picking wild raspberries yesterday. I got at least three daddy long-legs as a by-catch.

Edit:

An urban legend claims that the harvestman is the most venomous animal in the world,[6] but possesses fangs too short or a mouth too round and small to bite a human and therefore is not dangerous (the same myth applies to Pholcus phalangioides and the cranefly, which are both also called a 'daddy longlegs').[7] This is untrue on several counts. None of the known species of harvestmen have venom glands; their chelicerae are not hollowed fangs but grasping claws that are typically very small and not strong enough to break human skin.

Cellar spiders, which are also referred to as Daddy Long Legs, do have venom glands but they aren't enough to take down a person.

I don't care about if the fact that daddy longs eat blacks widows was or not, just as it allowed me to sleep through the night without worry that I might wake up with a black widow bite on me and/or her staring down at me.

I been bit by spiders at least 3 times as a kid and developed a phobia of spiders. Casting fireballs at black widows help me over come much of the fear, but not all of it. The last time a spider bit me was just a few months ago and I developed a very nasty lump the size of a marble shooter and about as hard.

There are spiders of all kinds all over my house; we live in the woods with ponds and streams around so there's also a lot of flies. Wolf spiders live in the corners of the windows and take care of moths and flies that try to get in. I get some big fuckers in my wood piles all the time.

Daddy long legs aren't at all creepy. They're more delicate than a snowflake.

Snakes are creepy. They don't even have legs. Plus...forked tongues??

Things without legs are less creepy. Like if you pulled all the legs off a harvestman, then it's sufficiently less creepy.

We need to research this. Take a hundred sleeping people and in fifty beds we'll drop a centipede and in the other fifty, a snake.

Okay, we need to make sure they're the same size though. You can't isolate the problem if you don't do the right control.

I like snakes, we have had pet snakes in the past. Centipedes are extremely creepy. They have far too many legs then needed to get around under stones.
