So where's Aethien going to celebrate? I expect a full report of shenanigans and such.

The overall quality of the Spanish team still trumps the Netherlands without a shadpw of doubt.

Haha, yes. Hence us arguing about if they have 18 or 19 better players in Spain.

I'm just opening a beer at home, only one sh*tty pub in town.

edit: To Øl's Garden Of Eden seemed appropriate enough (and delicious).

Some brilliant play by the Dutch, really nice couple of goals (and, you know, then another three). Definitely deserved the win, though they probably deserved a couple of their players sent off, too.

What a goal by van persie. I can't stand the guy nor the little boy inside him, but that was class.

Chile are looking like they could give Spain a game too. Love those little south american goblin wizards.

Game us team. I'm happy they won, but they were almost run off the pitch. Germany is going to annihilate them. Still! Given Portugal's already ugly goal diff, they might make it out of the group stage!

Couldn't agree more. It gives us hope at least ya? Feels nice to be celebrating something and dreaming of getting out of this first round. Of course, watch Portugal actually show up for our game and ruin all that. Smiley: lol

Oh well, I'll take it. We got a week to imagine the possibilities at least. Smiley: grin

Who isn't Germany going to annihilate? They completely wiped Portugal off the map and I'm guessing they'll do the same to Ghana and the US.

Best thing to do against Germany is keep the damage low, better to lose with 2-0 than 6-1.

Do you know who else thought that Germany could annihilate Portugal, the United States and Ghana?

That 4-0 clunker really opened the door. You imagine a scenario where we manage a tie with Portugal. Then losing by less than 4ish to Germany doesn't seem impossible, especially if they're on cruise control after destroying Ghana.

This hope stuff, I tells ya. Smiley: rolleyes

Italy, Brazil, Argentina, probably strange as it sounds, England if they make it past the group stage. They seem build to particularly destroy the tiki taki possession style epitomized by Spain. A physical attacking team could beat them. Brazil and Argentina are just plain better generally. If you mean in the group, no one probably. It'd be foolish to bet against them winning their group.

I don't think England has a serious chance against Germany, nor does Argentina. England doesn't have the quality to break through the solid German defense and Argentine leans too heavily on Messi and the Germans will break that down almost as easily as they did Portugal.

Do you know who else thought that Germany should stay cozy with Italy, Brazil and Argentina...?

I think you're dead wrong about Argentina, both about their chances and about their reliance on Messi. You might be right about England, but I think they match up well with Germany. Germany would be favored, but I'd take the odds. I might do just that if that match ever happens.

Watch them at work on ESPN 3? Mexico - Brazil in about an hour! Brazil should roll over them, but you know, it's Brazil, they get lazy sometimes, and Mexico is fun to watch.

Belgium looks like hell so far, as an aside. They looked fairly legit this year but maybe not.

It's an internet only channel? Or did you mean you weren't allowed?
