I was perusing the ADHD reddit forum when I stumbled across this awesome app I know many of you would probably get a kick out of. It's called HabitRPG and it turns bettering yourself into an MMO. I originally thought this would be cool for Xavier, but I created my own account and it's actually a lot of fun. Very interactive, decent active community, it blends getting better at things you need to work on with leveling up, rewards, questing, and challenges. There are even guilds you can join Smiley: lol

Basic premise is you list out habits you want to add in to your life, or improve on. You can also add tasks that may not be daily, but things you have to get done. You choose each items difficulty, changing the health, xp, reward net/loss for completing them daily. You lose health, xp, reward if you don't complete them daily. You then can choose to make individual rewards. For example I said that a glass of wine was worth 5 gold, and an hour uninterrupted was worth 30. I can cash in the gold I earn for my reward. But you also earn gems, which allow you to buy armor, weapons, stats, mounts, pets, etc.

Challenges are player made and anyone can accept. Challenges can be anything from running a 5k race to trying something new each day. If you accept a challenge it's added to your daily task log. And you can form parties to do quests.

I think we're going to get into this as a family, use it as an interactive sticker chart. All of the boys are gamers so they'd love this. And with ADHD myself, this could be one of the most useful tools for myself. Thought I'd pass it along!

I gain experience the old fashion way; I kill hundreds of small animals, and sell what I find inside them.

I tried something like this before. I can't remember what it was called but it was more focused on fitness. I remember Penny-Arcade made a strip about it.

I've made an account with HabitRPG and it definitely seems better somehow. I think I might actually use it.

Presumably you could give yourself an in-game reward for limiting your time gaming?

I like the old pen and paper planner - I've kept one for years.

Yes, you could do that. I've lost count of how many planners I've owned over the years. I always lose them Smiley: blush

Have you tried the android app version?

I could see putting something like this on my tablet. It would be nice if it could then be synced to other apps like my daily yoga app, or other lifestyle fitness apps - like calorie counters.

yeah I downloaded the third party app for this. I tried it this morning and synced well. I like the task aspect. I always have little things I know I need to get done, but always forget until evening, even if they're in my calendar (I keep hitting the dismiss button and forget). Now it's always there when I pen up the app and I can't click it until it's done. If I complete a task, I earn wine Smiley: grin

Thanks DSD I really like this!

I have put in 9 dailies, and 3 Habits, so I have set my reward costs high. It takes me 100g to earn a one hour massage, a music CD or a new computer game. 40g for a new book costing over $10, and 20g for a new book under $10. I have 17 things on my to-do list, too. I may yet have to up the costs further!

glad you like it! Smiley: grin

I got all of the kids set up yesterday with their help. They loved picking the rewards, and seeing which habits are good and bad. This morning I woke up to shouts of excitement as they bombarded me with tales of good habits done this morning and how they earned gold. Soren won the prize later though, as he finished using the bathroom, washed his hands without reminding and walked out exclaiming "That's one more gold I earned!!!" with a sh*t eating smile on his face Smiley: laugh

How wonderful is that? This could be one of the best parenting aids ever!

I have knocked over some of my dailies as early as possible this morning, including doing a ten minute Mindfulness session, which I know helps cut down on my flashbacks really well when done regularly, but that I usually avoid like the plague.

Yesterday I didn't get get through all my dailies and positive habits and I have already lost Health! I wonder if health can ever be recharged? One person on The Tavern keeps killing themselves by eating junk food o.o. I did, however earn a ton of gold.

Fortunately he's really good at flushing.

Health gets replenished when you level up:

Here is the full FAQ:

Also keep in mind that you can die too. And it's hardcore like EQ1. You lose a level and other stuff, ha!

Why? He ate the evidence.

This has changed my life! I almost constantly have a stat bonus for completing *all* my dailies the previous day. I now floss every day!

There were a lot of normal adult tasks that were beyond my ability. What I've done is broken the task up into small bits, and made a bit one of my dailies. I am now consistently doing one load of washing every 4 to 6 days by completing my "move clothes" task. Slowly slowy my desk is clearing up from my "remove some items from desk" task. I have a "read and delete pertinent emails" task.

There's a few things I can do to address my symptoms sitting in my chair, and I'm doing all of those every day consistently now, and feeling better for it.

I'm putting EVERYTHING I need to to-do on my To-Do list, and it's getting so much easier to remember to do things, and to slowly knock them off. Lots more movement is happening in my life here.

It's changed things a bit for me as well. Mostly because I can't go to sleep without at least 10 coins, so I'm kind of forced to do something productive until I can. It's mostly just stuff around the house like keeping up with dirty dishes, though I've been knocking out a lot of "To-Dos" from my server work list.

Far out. Changing the bedding almost cripples me. I have decided to delete a whole heap of Dailies on Sundays, when I change the bedding. I need the rest! The last three days I've been feeling totally pooped and drained. I lost my Perfect Day streak a few days ago and today I thought my hero might die, I didn't think I'd get through half my Dailies. Fortunately, with a little bit of teeth gritting I got a late rush going and surprised myself by only missing doing four. It helped that I "Go Outside for 15 Minutes" just as sunset was starting, and was able to watch a glorious sky changing moment by moment.

So cool to hear how much this is helping! Another thing you can do too, if you're having one of those days where you just have to take break, is to configure your dailies for specific days ( we did homework for the kids M-Th but left them off F-S) and I have a couple I don't do every day but need them on my dailies so I pick a couple days. The other thing you can do if you're going on vacation or have a few chaotic days is to put your character in the tavern and you don't get docked for not doing dailies. We had to do this last weekend while moving. I forgot about the tavern and we all died until I did that lol.

It's become a habit here for the two older boys. Every night they like to sit down before bed and check off their habits and dailies. One likes to accumulate gold, the other just wants xp. But they're loving it and happy when they do a good habit. I'm really glad I found this app and could pass it along =)

I am going to try this. I particularly like the idea of doing some things like what Ari was suggesting - (go outside for 15 minutes, put something away)

Even though I have no good reason to be terrible at some of these things, I could really use the encouragement to do them. So anyway going to give it a shot!
