Are you sure it wasn't getting enough money because there wasn't enough traffic or because everyone had adblockers up and gave no money when they visited? Because vindictusdb was the only database up for vindictus, so everyone uses it.

And I'm asking about selling it because EVERYONE ELSE IS ASKING! There are people who are asking for donation pages that they can donate to so we can buy the database, there are people with server space saying they will host the database themselves if we can get it sold, or start something to buy the database. I'm not the only person asking for the database info to be sold or KINDLY DONATED to someone who will be more than willing to NOT let everyone's work go to waste and host it.

A shame they simply just knocked vindictusdb of the nets without any mention or warning when so many people used it, honestly you're dealing with a nexon game. There are a LOT of players that are ready to just thrown money down to keep vindictusdb up.

Yes you can, you could go to with your overlords and tell them how essential this site is for the game and that there are people open for donating $ and making deals for the mantainance of the site. You are a messenger, Aren't you?

PS: Thanks for the cookies.

Please resurrect this site, or at least get the raw data to someone who will to host it again. Don't just let it die.

Many including myself used the site for:

1. Checking to see what drops go to which crafting recipes
2. Compare gear sets
3. Check item durability calculations

To my knowledge, there isn't a site out there that does any of these things. Now we have nothing. Please, please work with someone and help the Vindictus community out.

Read above, we didn't even know about existing zam.com service, because hm... there wasn't even a link on VindictusDB to Zam web/forum?
Activity on forum was and still is, on Vindictus Forum.

Also, VinditusDB was like wiki - You didn't need (or should I say, You couldn't even have!) account to use it.

Thanks.;) I don't think there is any of Your fault in this case anyway, so You don't really need sorry.

...

And about those who telling that about Add Blocker - If I'm right, the Add Blocker was blocking also java scripts, so rather not many people were blocking adds, because otherwise they wouldn't able to use VindictusDB Comparer Tool.
But maybe I'm wrong or they didn't block scripts only from Tools page.

It's pretty easy to adblock a site's ads while still allowing the site's required script to go through. I do it here as well, though that doesn't really matter since as a premium user I don't see ads once I've actually logged in.

Just would like to comment on one more important fact about this. You guys say the site wasn't profitable. How were the Vindictus fans to know the site even needed to make a profit? Most visitors didn't even realize the site was run by ZAM. I sure didn't. I didn't even know it was supposed to make money, nor did anyone know it was hurting financially. Why didn't you give us a chance to donate? Why not say funding was tight and reach out to the fans? No effort was made at all to keep the site alive, at least none that the fans could see. There are many fan-paid for sites out there, and they operate just fine, and some are even profitable. Hell there's an MMO that's made 60 mil off the fans. It's very possible, and a shut down could have been avoided.

I'm going to let someone else answer this, because I've sat here for five minutes trying to figure out how to respond without sounding like a complete and total smart ***, but I just can't do it.

You assume every site NEEDS to make a profit. That's just not true. ZAM hosts other sites as well. Don't tell me Vindictus DB was putting ZAM in the red.

I guess if it's all about greed then yeah, everything makes perfect sense, you win.

You knock my post for that statement yet the point of the post was to allow donations. What are you focusing on?

What I was told (and what I said here) was that the site wasn't getting enough traffic. Anything else you've concluded on your own.

Very well, this is my last post then. I just thought there may have been some hope to allow donations, etc. to keep the fans happy, for both Vindictus and ZAM. I only hope someone else will bring up a fan-funded site so we can once again enjoy what we once had.

VindictusDB had the most complete set of knowledge about the game. Maybe some of us Vindictorians didn't realize but if you're trying to learn certain aspects of the game or just search for something you need right now, VDB was the best organized website for this. Excuse me but gtfo Gamepedia! (the poor alternative).

I personally used VindictusDB 80% of the time for its item comparison function which was really neat and well implemented but has helped me uncountable times when looking for certain pieces of information.

I'm looking forward to this thread and hope that something can be done. I'm sure that ZAM still has the website archived somewhere and that a solution can be found.
Make it full of ads (so you gain profit), or sell it to someone else who would have the resources to host it or just sell it to the community. A donation function would pretty much solve the hosting prices.

Forward this to ZAM admins. That database was gold and needs to be back.

Then what are they waiting for? If money was the problem and people are willing to give money for the site?

I'll throw money at you if it's needed, set up a donation page and a set goal, people will pay for the service. Is that so hard to do?

Please bring vindictus DB back! Helps a lot!

Quit begging these people. They are not going to bring diddly back because they do not give a rat's ***. They wanted 2 million people a day to visit a site about a game that maybe 100,000 people play with 50% of those playing not even aware that the database even existed. I'll use the cached pages until they disappear. Hope Zam goes bankrupt.

Amusingly, this guy actually gets it. Zam is a business, the purpose of a business is to make money. If the site isn't seeing enough traffic, it's no longer worth the expense of keeping it running.

It is a business for sure, but I'm curious how many hits a day they need? The majority of players on vindictus probably rarely use it, it's mainly the people that have been playing for a little while or longer.

To let all that data go would be a shame, could they at least release all that work was put into it?

One thing vindi (and nexon) players have is money, lol. How much does it really cost to keep a site like vindictusdb running a month?

When you take into account that it operates under a larger umbrella, and therefore needs to maintain a certain standard, and is sharing resources designed to support a much larger infrastructure, a lot more than a random website. Then there's the whole "profit" issue. There's no incentive to maintaining the website, especially the backend, if it isn't turning a profit.
#76 Nov 01 2014 at 5:29 PM Rating: Decent
It's obviously a business that needs to make money, not a charity - but rather than shutting it down without any advance warning the site they should have people know the site was in trouble. You can see people here offering to do donations, and I've I said suspect a lot of people are running ad-blockers and would take it seriously and white list the site.
