I'm a chronic "saver" when I game. I can't help it, every save point I pass gets used, I'm spamming the quicksave button in Skyrim, etc. My motto seems to be you haven't actually accomplished anything until your progress is saved. All it takes is a power bump and 'poof!' there goes all your hard work. The wife on the other hand never saves anything. She'll play for two hours and not hit the button once. When she's lost stuff (there's been a couple of times) it's been enough to make her start over on a game, etc. Because 90 minutes of work was too much to redo. I'm constantly reminding her to save.

I may have a problem... Smiley: um

Anyway, do you have the same problem?
Yes, I save every chance I get.:9 (39.1%)
No, I only save when I have to.:1 (4.3%)
Can't we have a happy middle ground?:6 (26.1%)
This is an MMO forum; YOU DON'T HAVE TO SAVE IN AN MMO YOU NOOB! Smiley: mad:2 (8.7%)
You still don't have a 10K title? Smiley: dubious Slacker... Smiley: disappointed:5 (21.7%)

I got accustomed to saving every save point when they were few and far between. Now it's every few minutes, but a lot of that has to do with only playing a few minutes before having to do something else.

the games I've been playing recently just have auto save, makes it all much easier. I save every 5-10 minutes in RCT3 though, mostly because loads of custom content makes the game unstable.

There was a quick save button in Skyrim?

Mostly I save when I'm done playing and go to quit and the game forces the option on me.

I'm enjoying the insta-death games. I don't have to kick myself for not having saved before I went and did that stupid thing.

Btw, I think it is sort of OCD and I waited for over a year for a 10k title.

It all depends on how easy it is to save. If there's a quick save key, I'll hit that every couple minutes. If there's not, I'll save every hour or two.

Then again, that stupid bug on South Park has made me want to save more often.

The original Aliens vs Predator game didn't have a save function. And it was brutally hard. Don't know what they were thinking. They eventually came out with a patch that added the ability to save. So... Um... Save early; save often?

Well, unless there was a more original original version, it was a first person shooter. I've actually got it and for nostalgia's sake, loaded it up (and patched it) and played it awhile back. Yup. Still insanely ridiculously difficult. One of the "features" of the game is that the aliens more or less eternally respawn. So there's no "clear the level" approach. You have to constantly keep on the move, with limited ammo, and try to complete the level. I suspect that's partly why they didn't initially provide a save feature. If you're stopping to save thinking you're at a "safe spot", you're probably doing it wrong.

I usually forget to save and only remember when I die and have to replay 30 minutes of a level I'd rather just be done with.

Or, you know... some percentage of people pre-pay. So this could just be an artifact of all paper currency ending in .00 and all but ones ending in a 0 or 5 dollar amount. Every time someone walks into that convenience store and buys a newspaper/coffee/whatever, then hands the clerk a $20 to "put on number X", you're going to get this result.

There was an old arcade version. It was a quarter devourer. Don't remember if it ported to a home system, though.

That sounds a heck of a lot harder than handing the guy a card and saying "fill with regular."

You have a guy to hand a card to?

Does he wash your windshield and check under your hood too?

I mostly just fill my tank to where ever the pump clicks off at, but when not filling it I've had recent moments where I've deliberately gone past or stopped short of the dollar mark...just cuz the card don't care.

Ironically there's a station a couple of blocks from our house where they do that. They sell "old fashion service" which includes the washing windows, scrubbing off some bugs, opening the hood and checking the various levels of things, topping off stuff as needed, and looking for any obvious leaks and problems. The people pumping the gas are trained mechanics and can answer basic questions about car maintenance (I have no idea how good their advice is), and they have a shop where they can do simple repairs as well (one would assume that costs extra).

IIRC they charge like 10 cents more a gallon.

We dont' have people to pump our gas. I thought it was illegal because of the exposure issues - but maybe that's a state thing. We also don't have vapor recovery on our gas pumps.

My husband will usually pump and pay for one tank a week for me. Smiley: grin

IIRC Oregon is a "Full Service" only state, just like New Jersey.
