nVidia 600 series questionFollow

I'm back to having trouble with my 570 GTX running WoW at DX11, seems to do the same with some other games, but not quite as bad I don't believe. Anyways, it will crash the nvidia driver and recovery (exact quote from the event viewer "Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding and has successfully recovered.")

I've tried almost everything I can think of to stop the problem, I disabled my RealTek audio, as I heard that can be a problem, then just outright uninstalled it. I adjusted the power option in the nVidia control panel to max power. Adjusted the multiply display to compatibale mode. I have no clue what else to do.

So my question is does the 600 series have the same problem as the 500 series cards (as I have read that it happens with different numbered ones of the 500 series, not just the 570s) with DX11?

And one more question, so I don't have to start a new thread about it. I was wanting to get some more RAM, is lower CAS latency better for AMD CPUs or faster mhz?

Thank you

The error your getting can be associated with a few things. Bad Drivers, Not enough power to video card in high performance situations, overheating, or overclocking. Also for some reason I used to get this problem with shockwave flash, Nvidia drivers would crash when I had a video playing the in background or foreground.

Some suggestions:
Update Video drivers (Clean install) you probably already did this.
Run a hardware monitor (I use CPUID HWMonitor its free) watch the voltage and make sure its stable during high performance times, also the Temp.
Right click on a Flash video and select properties, and deselect Enable Hardware Acceleration

As for the AMD, it depends on what your chip supports mostly high end hits 1600Mhz, if your Overclocking you can get ram rated 1866+ but most systems will auto clock them to 1600Mhz. As for Cas latency I don't know the details on that.

I have updated my drivers with clean install, completly wiped off with driver sweeper several times, still no avail on that one.

I keep an eye out on my voltages with my ASUS RoG Probe II, I never see them drop off, my PSU is a 1200 watt PSU, I'm hoping that is plenty for everything. Far as the temps, I've never seen my card get above 55c when I boost the fans to 65-70%, it runs dual fans and tends to keep it on the cool side. If I leave the fans on auto, it will get to around 60c or so, but to be honest, I've never seen it above that.

It's rather odd, I can run every game that I play at max level. But kick in DX11 and it will crash. It did it one time on Witcher 2, but never again after that. With WoW lastnight it did it 5 times in a row. And then it did it 2 more times about 5 minutes later. Doesn't seem to do it with DX10, which is odd, I've played HAWX for hours and no problems at all.

I guess it wouldn't be to big of a deal to run WoW in DX9 mode, but when I drop 350-400 dollars for a card, I expect said card to perform in DX11 without any troubles.

I have been closing Firefox when trying WoW with DX 11 as I have heard that it will interfere with it, but I will try that and see.

All the threads I have read on this, 100s of them, it seems to be a 500 series card (but I am curious if it maybe happening with 600 series cards as well, and I have just missed it) problem with DX11 itself. I have no clue why that would be as they were designed to run DX11, maybe faulty chip or something. Would be ashame if the 600 series are this way as well. I may have to switch over to ATI.

I've read somewhere that lower CAS latency is better for AMD chips over faster RAM, not really sure how true that is to be honest. I am wanting more RAM, but I would much rather find out what is going to run faster, lower CAS or faster RAM.

Edit to add: I have also done as other forums have suggested, I underclocked my card from the overclock state it was shipped in. I have tried to up the voltage to see if that works. So far none of that has worked either.

For what it's worth, I played WoW just fine on a 555 GTX card over the summer.

Well I was taking shots in the dark, /shurg. You may just have a bad card or something. Check into GPU Burn in, maybe, I know thats a test you can use to test he stability of the GPU chipset. Maybe try calling the card manufacturer, most of them now days have really good warranties, most average around 2 years, A few have lifetime.

I played for about 30 mins or so earlier with no problems. It seems to be random as to when it will do it. I just know for sure it has to do with DX11. I'll look into that GPU Burn and see what I can come up with. Maybe it will give me a better picture as to what is up with my card.

I've had the card about a year now, well little over a year. It did this after I got it, called the manufacturer and they said I needed to download some program or something, It wasn't what was needed after I did some research on it. Of course then I found all the other forum post on Blizzards forums and other ones with countless post about the driver crashing with DX11 and 500 series cards.

Some have gotten it to work lowering the speeds of the card, or uping the voltage on the card. Some have been able to revert back to a different driver set and get it to work. I tried that as well and still no go. For me it just seems to be random as to when it will work. Rather odd it is. But some nights I get to play a pretty good stretch of WoW before it crashes, some nights not so much.

If all else fails I'll revert back to DX9 for the time being. Just hate not being able to use DX11.

Thanks again.

Ok, seems to have done it again. 5 times in a row, then another 2 about 5 to 10 minutes later.

I think I am just getting a new card, so now I am wondering if the 600 series has any trouble with DX11, I haven't found any at all. And I found a couple 680 GTX I like on newegg, but if they are having any kind of trouble with DX11, I would just prefer to get a ATI 7970.

Thank you

Get a 7870 XT, it's by far the most powerful of the 7000 series.

Went ahead and went with an MSI 680GTX, will see how it does. Hopefully it will work out, if not will RMA and go from there. But I haven't found anything about 680 GTX failing with DX11, so that is very positive.

Thanks again
