first, id just like to say im not trying to be lazy by getting someone else to do my work, i just have no clue when it comes to comp hardware, im better with software.

im looking to get some ram, from ncix.com, but wanted to make sure i got something i could use.

i have a Intel® Desktop Board D845GVFN, which says "Two 184-pin DDR SDRAM DIMM sockets", so im assuming i would use that in my ram search right?

but theres all these numbers i dont understand, so thats why im asking for help.

example, i search for 184-pin DDR SDRAM DIMM, and some of the results will have DDR333, or DDR266, or even DDR400.

so if someone could help me find some ram that will work in my comp, i would be very grateful

The number after DDR is the max speed at which that module is rated to run.
In otherwords, DDR266 can run on a 266Mhz bus, DDR333 can run on a 333Mhz bus
and so on.
If we knew what processer you were running, it would give us a better idea as to which memory you should get.
However, you could just get the DDR400 just to be on the safe side, and clock it down to match whatever the FSB speed of your CPU is.

Edit:
Also go here
ftp://download.intel.com/design/motherbd/fn/C8364401.pdf
and look at page 19 and 20. It breaks down valid configurations of memory for your motherboard. Looks like it doesn't even support DDR400, so I wouldn't even mess with it, unless it's cheaper.

ive got an Intel Celeron 2.80 GHz, i think thats the processor anyway.

so i should stay away from 400s? if a 200 or 333 will work, i should be able to figure the rest out myself

also didnt get anything from the pdf link, just got a connection closed

try this link instead

Yeah I wouldn't bother with the 400Mhz ram since there's no way your motherboard will use it to its fullest.

that is a handy pdf.

one more question though, how do i find out my proccesors system bus frequancy?

this one has a speed usable either way, and it looks like it would work, according to the pdf (unless i missed something), so mayeb ill order it when i can

thanks for the help

I'm about 80% sure all the socket 478 Celeron processors ran @ 400Mhz FSB
but I can't remember. Even if it is 533, the DDR266 will work anyway.
It should say in the cmos what the FSB of the CPU is set to.
Corsair is also really good memory too, so I think you have a winner.

nice, just noticed teh price seems to have dropped 20 or so dollars too, which means with shipping, i can get it for about, $90 CAD.

all i have to do now is scrounge up the money, and my comp should be set to do anything i need it to do for a while.

ill have to start studying some computer stuf in my spare time so i dont need to ask for help everytime i want to buy something.

thanks again for your assistance

Hrm. It's not very specific as to who the manufacturer is of the module. They have the names Infineon, Kingston, Micron, and Samsung listed. If I had to guess, they just stock whatever their supplier had at the time they made their order. I've had good experiences with memory from each of those companies except Samsung. I don't think I've ever delt with their RAM. I know they've been known to crank out some pretty flaky hard drives in the past, but they were also pretty good about owning up to their mess-ups. As for the specs of the module, they are congruent with the specs in the "Supported DDR DIMM Configurations" table in the motherboard manual, so you should be alright.

edit: Come to think of it, the computer store I used to work for did sometimes get some memory in that had Samsung chips on them. They were pretty solid. So, the Samsung modules should be alright too.
