Pretty much. Apparently someone did some data mining on the game files and found that Vaporeon scales more or less on par with the game's event-only legendary pokemon. Maybe that will be adjusted in the future.

Yeah, that's a definite fault with the game.

This is the most insanely helpful thing ever.

https://pokebliss.com/

It was actually developed by a guy right here in my town. There are several similar apps/sites but this is the best one by far.

Basically it scans the area near you, or wherever you choose, and shows you exactly where all the pokemon are-- as well as pokestops and gyms, and what team holds said gyms. It also displays the amount of time remaining before the pokemon despawns.

That's much better than the other tracking sites! Smiley: grin

The other tracking sites I've tried weren't very impressive. I'd be at my desk with a critter in catching distance but the sites showed nothing by my house. Really, the only interest I have in such a site is at work where I sometimes see a fairly rare Pokemon pop up on my tracking but I can't go wandering for 20 minutes looking for it. If I could walk right to where it was, it would be handy. Or see that it's too far and curse under my breath.

Yeah it's having maintenance today. Those other tracking sites are garbage by comparison though, otherwise. The in-game tracker is completely broken, and was not very helpful to begin with.

I've been getting a lot of exercise because of the Poke Bliss radar app. It seems to scan a much wider radius than the other trackers and doesn't take nearly as long to load between scans. I'll frequently spot something really rare over a distance that appears to not be as long as it is on the map until I'm actually out running it trying to get there before the time runs out. It turns out pokemon don't hang around for more than 10 minutes or so once they appear, and the in-game tracker will erroneously report them as being in the area long after they're gone.

I ended up bolting out my door sprinting for nearly two miles this morning at around 5am to get to a snorlax I saw on the radar only to find my path blocked by a gated community filled with walls and wide rivers of run-off water. If I had just had more time I could have figured out the way from the south instead of trying to run a straight line from point A to point B. Upon arriving home I noticed an Exeggutor had spawned in nearly the exact same spot the Snorlax did. Apparently gated communities and golf courses get all the best pokemon.

My only complaint about the radar app is the fact that you can't filter out specific pokemon from the search results, and the immediate area ends up being obscured by crowds of pidgeys and ratatas. I imagine they might be adding that today though givent he maintenance.

Credit where due, the site tracked an Electrobuzz a block or so from my house last night and me and my son, who both lacked electric types, went out and it was where advertised.

Also, what's up with this game still being basically as buggy as the day it launched? Tracking still broken, still get lock-ups when capturing, Pokestops often don't work (either blank circle, a "locked" circle or spinning does nothing), I get game freezes when trying to fight in a gym, etc.

Not that I've been interested in spending any money yet but asking for money for a Pokeball seems a little presumptuous when there's a good chance the game will lock up anyway once you put a critter in that ball.

Tracking actually worked on launch day. So the game is now, in fact, more broken.

The rest of those problems have more to do with the servers than the actual game. During peak hours you will get that a lot-- which is something that actually has improved a lot since the earlier days when I could not use gyms or pokestops at all.

If you find yourself being kicked out of gyms constantly or they don't work, turn off your phone's wifi and let it connect to 4G by default and it should stop.

^ That actually fixes a lot of the problems most of the time.

Saying "that's actually the servers" is meaningless. The servers are how the game communicates with the world. Poor servers equate to poor game. It's like having a museum where all the pieces are behind filth-encrusted glass and nearly impossible to see and defending it with "Oh, the paintings are really quite lovely; it's the glass that's impossible to see through" -- it's the museum's job to be sure they have stuff worth seeing AND that you can see it and you don't get credit for one unless you can deliver the other.

Always using 4G when playing. Game still runs like balls.

The reason I say the servers are the problem is because whether or not they are functioning as intended is not consistent. They could be lagging one minute and be just fine an hour later.

Ha. I was just at my aunt's house helping her move some furniture. Imagine my surprise when the I see that the senior center two blocks away is twelve pokestops. Every single garden statue and memorial bench is a stop, all within like 100 feet of each other.

Pokevision returns basically nothing in my entire subdivision. Bliss gives a pretty accurate depiction of what's out there. I know from first-hand experience that Vision is missing 90% of what's around me.

On the other hand, Vision actually loads up whereas Bliss has been down for days.

So apparently the fix for the three-step glitch is... to remove the steps entirely.

And they wonder why people use outside apps to help find pokemon instead of just wandering around aimlessly.

Well that sucks. Why even bother having the radar if there's no way to track anything down with it? Just knowing that there's a slowpoke somewhere within half a mile of me means absolutely nothing if there's no way to find it besides randomly tripping over it.

I'm really starting to feel disappointed with Pokemon Go. It is so hugely popular and has so much potential-- but that potential is being wasted. It's like Minecraft all over again. Maybe they'll get bought out by Microsoft so they can proceed to continue doing nothing at all to improve the game.

I'm still having fun. I mostly just wander around catching whatever I come across anyway so this change doesn't have a huge impact on me.

I just find it very odd that they've completely removed the tracking mini-game with no explanation and are pretending like it was supposed to be this way all along. That's straight up bad communication and it's not surprising that people are unhappy about it.

Sounds as though they killed the 3rd party trackers for good.

I still have fun with it but it has baffling issues and I can't imagine spending a dime of real money on it (which is what they want of course).

I've spent a decent amount of real money on the game so far. I regret buying pokeballs, though. A few hours at a nearby park filled with stops is all it takes to completely fill my inventory.

It's hard to *not* buy incubators. I hate running around town with eggs that aren't being hatched. Hatching eggs seems to be the best way to go when it comes to any aspect of the game: Strong/rare pokemon, star dust, exp and candy all at one. We are planning on buying bicycles for each member of our family soon. I guess that kind of counts as spending towards the game given it's the reason we're buying them. I have also spent quite a bit on increasing the size of my inventory.

An FYI, biking is wildly inaccurate when it comes to egg hatching. I do a decent amount of biking and sometimes it takes ages to hatch even a 2k egg.

True story: yesterday I started incubating a 2k egg right as I got on my bike and left my house. It finally hatched around 7k later.

Hatching seems to work like that regardless, though. I could be in a car creeping at 12mph or walking and it's as if it silently records bits and pieces of the distance traveled below a certain speed then awards it to us in intervals after the fact. Most of my eggs hatch after I've been sitting at my desk at home for 20 minutes after a walk.

Hatching is horribly inaccurate. This guy ran 12km and the game registered 2.2km

Which, again, I can't see the point in spending money to buy incubators that don't even work. I just use my infinite one and whatever freebies I get for leveling up. I'm getting coins from gym captures but I'll put those towards increased bag space.
