I bought FF Chronicles for the Wii. I found the motion controls made the game almost unplayable. Relatively unresponsive, and the lack of any real weapons made the game extremely aggravating, since the pick up and throw method sucked so bad. Was definitely disappointed by it. I really wanted to like it, really wanted to play it...
The DS games weren't as bad though.
At least the person from Chronicles working on it is more a character design standpoint.

Hm.. I played some Phantasy Star game online on the DS with my cousin. Was odd. This will probably be like that FFZero (free MMO that was about a while ago).
waaaant. Had me at "light version of XI..."
Some more info has been coming out. Seems that the world is going to be pretty influenced by XI and XIV. Battling against the Summons and Beasts as they try to stop adventurers. Big battles against the usual FF Summons, a big part of the XIV storyline.

it does sound promising. I just hope it's better than SE's last online co-op game
