Launches in 10 days. I broke down and bought a 3DS for it, but I still can't decide which version to get...

I'm leaning towards Y... but I've never had this much trouble deciding before.

Because now, you don't just choose your legendary and a few relatively minor pokemon options, you choose mega-evolutions, too.

I think I want Y, because the pure-psychic Mewtwo evolution is appealing. But the blue Charizard evolution is sexy, too (Fire/Dragon hells yes).

Anyone else decide already? Or are they waiting. I want to see if the other Kanto starters get different mega evolutions.

If I can find out what versions my pokemon playing friends are getting I might choose accordingly. Otherwise I'll probably decide on a whim when I get to the store.

I have issues with commitment. It took me about half an hour in the store to figure out if I wanted the red or blue 3DS. Smiley: lol

I feel like I should get X. So I won't get the Mewtwo form I want - big deal? I'll get a Fairy type legendary instead of the Dark/Flying type, which is a solid counter to Dark, Dragon, and Psychic pokemon - some of the most powerful options. With that type set, there's very little reason not to keep one in your party. But with relatively few known options, it might be safest to accept that there are a ton of great Dark and Flying pokemon out there already...

Hmmm...

To be fair, a BIG part of this is going to come down to whether or not Venusaur has a second mega-evolution, and what that is. Smiley: lol

I am getting X - don't know anything about which evos come with what but I am sure I can trade online for whatever I don't end up getting (assuming things are tradeable) especially once I can port my shiny/legendary/event pokemon from generation 5 into my game.

Friendly reminder that this came out today. Loading it up now.

And another friendly reminder that you can get THREE starters in the game.

There's a limited time offer for a Torchic, which will nab you a fire starter (or a second fire starter)

You get to choose one of the original starters (Bulbasaur, Charmander, Squirtle).

You get to choose one of the new starters (Chespin, Fennekin, or Froagie).

So, as long as you don't have a desperate desire for Charmander or Fennekin, you can get your Water, Grass, and Fire types covered really quickly.

Of course, Fennekin is clearly the best starter of this generation. Smiley: lol But still.

The graphics are surprisingly good. Went with Fennekin because... well, because it's clearly the superior choice. Probably will get Squirtle as my gen I starter. Does anyone know how the friends system works yet?

I'm guessing Horribly, since it's a Nintendo system.

Froakie hates all the foods I give it. I feel like a parent. YOU NEED TO EAT.

Also, I want a Fennekin, but I also know I'm getting that Torchic right away. No reason to nab Charmander or Fennekin now.

I love that my starter is female. I can breed it super easily, and trade it for other starters. Smiley: schooled

Having spent the past few days playing Pokemon to the exclusion of all else, I'm in love. I haven't gotten this pure feeling of fun and adventure from a pokemon game in years. It's bright and vivid and the world feels alive, and the female trainer design doesn't suck, and -holy crap, a pokemon! I better catch it!- wait, where was I? Oh yeah, this game is awesome.

Oh, while we're at it, my FC is 3582-9513-5752. I have X. I intend to breed my Froakie as soon as I can. Happy to toss little Froakies to others. Bulbasaur, too. Though that might have to wait for a Ditto - dunno.

I'll post here when it's an option.

[EDIT]

Also, I'm loving the HUGE diversity of pokemon available in every zone. For one, because it makes me feel like an actual newbie on this adventure, with no clue what to expect. I'm aggressively avoiding guides as of right now (which I'm sure have quickly been put together).

So I'm checking my pokedex, finding out where pokemon I've seen might be found, constantly running through tall grass because I actually could just randomly discover an uncommon spawn, etc.

It's exactly what a Pokemon game should feel like.

[EDIT2]

If you haven't played with a Spewpa yet... DO IT.

Yea, the huge number of pokemon in zones is great. I also agree about the Spewpa - Vivillon is awesome! I'm sorry that I'll probably have to replace mine later on for a pokemon that can actually learn fly :(.

Also, I PM'd idiggory with my FC. Don't want to post it publicly but if anyone wants it just send me a PM or post here with yours and I'll PM you mine! NEED MOAR FRIENDS

I have bred some charmanders and chespin if anyone wants to trade. Some nice person responded to my "TRADE ME A DITTO" shout out. I'd love more starters to breed with but obvs unless you have a horseshoe up your bottom and got a female starter, have been playing much more than me, or got lucky getting a ditto, I don't expect any.

I also bred some psybeam bug bite ledybas if you are into egg moves like I am. I am currently breeding abra because they seem super rare and (as usual) are a pain to catch - also I am trying for a female so I can breed egg moves on to them.

My FC is 4167-4861-9572 - I show up as "JJ" in the 3ds friend screen and "Libra" in game.

I got a male starter (Fennekin) and am still early on so no dittos, but I would happily take a Chespin and/or Charmander with a promise of giving you a Fennekin and/or Squirtle in the future if you'll accept that! tbh I've never done much breeding in past games so I don't know optimal strategies or anything. Also, PMing you with my FC.

eh, don't worry about promising anything for the future - I am pretty good about getting what I want - I bet I end up with all six first and sixth generation starters before the end of the night.

:D

Also! The only ESSENTIAL tip I can give you for breeding is get a poke with "flame body" right away- having it in your party reduces hatch time by half.

The little fire bird that is really common evolves into Fletchinder which has it...fletchling I mean

Cool. I didn't really get to play much. Didn't really start until 8 or so, and my bedtime is around 9. Smiley: lol

[EDIT]

I did catch a Flabebe though. It's going to replace Pidgey in my party.

I used Flabebe for a little while but the pure Fairy type just wasn't doing it for me. I might have to go back and raise my Fletchling up though...

Apparently they're badass at higher levels. Unsurprising, considering they counter some of the most powerful offensive types in the game.

Right now, my party is:

Ivysaur
Pikachu
Fletchinder
Beedrill
Frogadier
Combuskin

Basically I haven't put any thought into it, and just ran with whatever my initial captures were, and then banking some to make room for the Torchic and Bulbasaur. I don't really have any that look interesting.

You have overlap with Fletchinder and Beedrill, but otherwise that team is fine.

I don't typically keep my bug pokemon too long. Usually only until I can get a Dark type to cover psychic pokemon. You'd definitely benefit from having a dark or a fairy type in that spot. I'd go Fairy, with the rest of that team.
