It may or may not be over. And I may or may not have received a survey in my email.

I may or may not have thought that it took entirely too long to level. It's hypothetically possible that I may have gotten an achievement for doing 50 quests and still only got to level 8. I can't say for certain though.

Except for the main part of the controls, where the mouse directly controls the camera and the left click attacks and right click blocks. That's just Skyrim (FPS) controls. It's got the controls of an FPS, not an MMO.

Welcome to action/RPG MMOS. This control setup isn't any different from Tera or Neverwinter.

Your definition of standard is... odd.

Has ONE game using that control system been anywhere near successful? TERA went F2P super fast (though I have no clue what its active players stats are now). No one is talking about Neverwinter. Even fewer are playing Neverwinter.

Wildstar, which I feel safe calling the most anticipated MMO in development right now, isn't using that control scheme. None of the other successful MMOs on the market are using that control scheme.

I'm not saying they can't make it good, but their implementation of it sucked (imo). I have no clue how to make it better, though. It'll need to solve an issue that first person action RPGS had had for a while now - how to handle melee combat. I have yet to see an action RPG do it well when using the FPS format. Most action RPGS detach the camera.

Skyrim did better than earlier ES games, but their melee combat still sucked.

And magic was underpowered, thank goodness it was such a good butterfly catching simulator.

Last I heard TERA is still going fine, they've found themselves a happy niche and likely won't lose it until something better comes in that Asian MMO crossover spot. It pretty much has no hope of growing here as bad voice overs and painful grinding don't tend to sell with the U.S. audience. They're making a good amount of money in Japan and Korea though, and anything that sells outside of those regions is more or less just icing on the cake. It'll sink or swim based on what happens there, not so much here. We're like a tertiary market at best for that game.

The whole action combat thing does feel like this generation of games' tab-targetting. Other than some kind of "lock-on" mechanic I'd be surprised to see the whole "selecting a target" thing in anything but the most rudimentary games these days; if for no other reason than it's simply viewed as an outdated mechanic. I will say I like the whole point and shoot thing from a standpoint of it being a more user-friendly system. Making sure you have the right target selected feels really hokey compared to just swinging a sword and hitting whatever happens to be in it's way. My 4 year old can pick up TERA and play without trouble, but couldn't get anywhere in SWTOR, for example. That kind of easy-to-pick-up gameplay is going to help get people hooked on game (assuming it's not like TERA and actually has something else to offer Smiley: rolleyes)

Edit: Also, I got a beta invite, but didn't check my e-mail in time. Smiley: disappointed

I would have like to have seen a way to lock on to an enemy, because that whole rolling behind you and attacking you from the rear sucked...Is what I would have said, had I been involved in the Beta

You'd think you'd need some kind of lock-on, at least for those magic users, unless every spell meant to be single-target-ish has an instantaneous travel speed. That very slowly moving ball of ice just isn't going to cut it in PvP.

Except they gave their okay for the armor to get into put Skyrim mods. Now one can get their elf panty fix in another game, and in high resolution no less. Smiley: wink

I imagine there's mods to fix this but Skyrim people look like they're molded out of wax and potatoes. I wouldn't want to see one in elf panties Smiley: um

It's not so bad: Skyrim, TERA. Besides, if life has taught me anything it's that:

1) If it exists, it's in a Skyrim mod.

2) That mod is incompatible with the ones you already have.

You've obviously never met Jimmy the stable hand. Someone has to clean and sanitize the saddles on those winged horses between riders, and it's a fairly thankless job.

As for target locking, You can. Press tab and you will lock on to your current target. A white box appears over it.

You can also use Tab to cycle targets, in case you are on the wrong one.

I am sad today that I can't log in and play. I must have spent about 90% of my time hunting locked treasure chests. Tons of worthless items (at least for now) but still addictive.

I never did find one locked chest that I could open. I found one easy chest when I didn't have any picks, all the rest were intermediate and higher.

I'm not sure if this violates the NDA or not but: To successfully pick locks all you need to do is click down on the tumblers until they just start to vibrate, as soon as they start to vibrate let go and they will stay in the down position greyed out. Then move on to the next. It's pretty simple once you get the feel for it. You don't have to push them all down all the way. If you fail to stop pushing down soon enough, they will spring up and wear out your lock pick, eventually breaking it.

Chests are found in pretty much every little nook and cranny. If you see a large rock off to the side of a pathway, it's likely got a chest behind it, or on top of it.

...and bump.

Another beta weekend starting in about twenty minutes. I'm hoping, (but doubting) that my character from last time is still available. If I have to start over from scratch, I might not even bother. I don't feel like running around doing all the same stuff I did last time.
Necro Warning: This post occurred more than thirty days after the prior, and may be a necropost.

The game bored me to death. I don't care either way. Unless they do something major it probably will end up just another dime a dozen F2P game.

The only problem with that is it's not F2P. They're set on running a subscription. Since day one they've seemed intent on ruining this game at every turn.

Honestly, at this point I can't even tell how many people actually dislike the game and how many people are just going with the crowd.

I may or may not have turned on the game last night and then needed to download a 26GB update... and it may or may not still be downloading right now after I got home from work, with 560MBs left. And my download speed may or may not be at only 63KB/s because of what I can only assume may or may not be load of other people downloading at the same time.

Edit:
I can't seem to log in, it tells me my User/Password is bad, I didn't think it was but I did a reset anyway. Still says it's bad. Reset a second time, and still says the password is bad. Not sure what's wrong.

Seems they may or may not have disabled email addresses as your user name.
