I'm getting a bit bored with PoE after 272 hours so this game is getting a bit more tempting. I do kinda need something to tide me over until DS2 comes out for PC.

I decided to try my backlog for now. Loaded up FC3 Bloodragon for lulz. No idea how long ago I bought it.

I actually have a bit of a backlog for the first time ever. Usually I buy a game then play it to death before buying anything else but I picked up the first 2 Batman games on the sale.

Just finished Borderlands 2 story for the first time as well Pretty good story and a lot of fun to play but I thought the final boss was a little underwhelming, definitely one of the big fights I had the least trouble with and I would've killed him in one go if I didn't get knocked off the map during try 1. Maybe it's because it felt like it could have been a raid boss in WoW and I'm still so used to fights like that, I had a LOT more trouble with the Demon Hunter quest (and every early boss but that's probably because I still sucked way more than I do now).

Normal BL2 is pretty mellow. It gets a lot more intense on the next two difficulties. But you get more points to play with for your build too so it works out.

I meant more in relation to the other bosses, especially bosses that try to get in your face were way more difficult to deal with for me.

Well I was excited about it - we had a pre-launch sweetroll party and everything.

The first day of early access (Sunday) went very smoothly. Little/no lag, no quest bugs that I encountered, everything doing what it should. By day 2 the bugs started showing up - if a quest has a spawning issue, it gets worse and worse as time goes on, apparently as more instances become broken and they haven't restarted anything yet. It's not nearly as bad as it was in beta - I've only got one quest in my log that I haven't been able to do - but it's still annoying given I'm, yanno, paying for it now. Some lag in the city but nothing bad for me.

I haven't had a chance to try PVP yet. Because obviously I start characters, level them to 6, change my mind about their hairstyles, and delete them and start over.

I like this game a lot, in terms of mechanics and gameplay. The collision detection was a nice addition, I like having to dodge/block/interrupt or die, and I like interrupt as a form of CC (knocking things down makes me giggle). I die a lot on harder fights, as am not good at it yet. I play WoW more than anything so normal for me is stand and shoot and occasionally run out of fire. For people who are used to a more active system and don't have that challenge, maybe it's boring, I don't know. GW2 has the dodge mechanic too but with certain classes it was really optional, at least when I was playing. Here you have to learn to do it or you will die.

I think they're shooting themselves in the foot with the bugs. One bugged quest isn't a big deal, but people were so pissed off during the beta that they're extra sensitive to it, I think. And the 3-day early access starts today - they don't seem to have reset everything for it, so those people will be logging into the bugs. Personally, I think they need to go down for a half hour or an hour or whatever it takes every day and reset everything, until they can get it worked out. IMO a little downtime is better than having the bad press of things not working.

Edit: Forgot that I also had an issue with grouping, having to log out/back in to be able to get with my groupmate. Everything is instanced on one mega-server, so if you don't happen to be in the same instance when you group up, apparently you may have to log out in order to be put in the same one.

I have heard that launch has gone surprisingly smoothly, which means one of two things:

1. They actually got their infrastructure set up for the appropriate demand, and they have a rock solid backbone data center and core server side program

or

2. They had fewer people playing than they had hoped.

Either one is a possibility, and I'll withold judgement since I'm not playing. But a lack of server woes during launch is not necessarily a good thing. With the successful games like WoW, the servers went FOOM! due to the overwhelming, crushing demand.

I would wager #2. I know that most of the Aldmeri Dominion that I played with throughout the last beta were not going to bother prepurchasing, just because the beta was mostly ****, and the ones who already prepurchased wished they had not. Maybe the Ebonheart or Daggerfall folks are picking up the slack? But I doubt it. Id be more worried if I was Zenimax if there were no server troubles, because that means your game is not as good as you thought it was.

I think it's a bit more of #2 as well. I only have a few hours in, but the population seems much more like a crowded city than a game launch. Even if you take into account the staggered launch and the phasing, the population seems very low. During one of the beta weekends I did a solo dungeon area that I shared with probably close to 100 people, when I did it Sunday I shared it with maybe 10.

As far as the game, it seems like it could be decent, but the combat seems laggy and disconnected. It may be that I haven't played a MMORPG in a bit so I'm a bit less burned out than normal, but the combat and progression system feels like they could have gotten it right, if they hadn't screwed it up mechanically. Interrupts are slow or often don't work, NPC AoEs impact areas much larger than their shown area, animations are off, and incoming damage seems very unpredictable.

In terms of server performance, the smoothest launch or expansion I've experienced. No queues, have not gotten disconnected once, and experienced occasional lag only in the city.

I can't speak to why. They did say during beta that they were adding a lot to their infrastructure for launch and went so far as to put in an official blog post that they'd be having a "lag-free" launch so obviously they were confident. Whether that's because they did their jobs or just knew the pre-order numbers, I couldn't say. It's tough to tell from how many other players you see around since there are an undisclosed number of instances and you don't know what percentage of the population you're actually playing with. I'm playing Daggerfall and I'm running into crowds while doing quests but nothing unmanageable.

Nice to know that I'm not able to utilize my head start. When I woke up this morning the servers were down, and they're down now as well. Or they've been down for the past 12 hours, not sure either way, but the message on the forums says downtime 4/1-4/2. Although people logging in as other people's characters is a pretty major bug.

Good! That means more people tried to log in! Smiley: laugh

Yeah, apparently the whole thing pooped the bed some time last night - I wasn't playing so I missed it all, but reading the Reddit explosion while drinking my tea this morning was amusing.

I was gonna break down and pick this up but the servers are down for launch prep. heh

I figure if I go in with low expectations I won't be disappointed. I mostly just like to level up characters in MMO's now anyway. I'm not looking for my next life commitment. I'm usually done playing after the first month of indulgence.

Ya know I am glad I did not play the beta now. Because so far this seems badass. I might hate it in a few weeks but going into it open minded the beginning was quite neat.

Also Ima Nightblade Wood elf. Wish I could have found a bow in the tutorial but I'm sure it's coming. AD faction for now. Cuz wood elf.

So I'm watching an ESO let's play, so far they've spent half the time trying to get in the same instance of the world.

Bow and an armor piece (chest, maybe?) comes at the end of the tutorial in a small package that you might miss because it just gets dumped into your inventory. There is a message of some sort that you're getting the package (don't remember what it's called) but a lot going on to distract you.

It's there when you "wake up." (not really a spoiler I guess, but whatever)

EDIT: I just looked at your screenshot. You have the package already if you're on that boat.

That's because they think it's an MMO. Fools.

Between getting stuck in animations and the constant phasing out even after they found each other I can't say it made me want to play the game. The complicated and clumsy looking menus and skill system didn't help either.

Thanks! I had no idea I had a bag with a bow and armor in it.

There sure is a lot of running around and talking to people in that first town...

I'm seriously ready to start fighting things already. Hopefully now that I went to the island, and talked to 5 more people...

Edit: Yup the Island is fun! I captured a butterfly, found 2 iron ore nodes, pulled 3 harpies and died! :) Feels more ES now.

Ick. That doesn't sound nice. Just have normal servers so people who want to play together, can. I don't understand what benefit that they think this will bring.
