Soloing/MoloingFollow

Been playing EQ1 now since 2000 and have gotten on EQ2 on and off over the past few years. I am thinking about coming back for the new Heroic Character since the leveling process was the one reason I never really got into EQ2 in the first place. However now that I have the chance to jump up and actually start playing and enjoying the latest expansion I have no clue which classes work well soloing?

In EQ I really liked my Bard and my Mage, but idk how well those 2 classes could solo in EQ2. I tend to farm solo for rare items and what not, and going after named mobs for unique and rarer drops. Any classes able to do that in EQ2? On my Mage I know I can solo almost everything that isn't top tier current content and was wondering if there was any such class available in EQ2. Thanks in advance for any advice =)

Moloing is the use of mercs to solo with, hence the word moloing term. ;)

I've always focused on fighters myself, Paladins in EQI but I definitely love my Monk in EQII. Is it great for soloing, with merc or not? Yes and no, I don't think there's any class out there that can solo heroic instances at his own level (apart perhaps in Sentinel's Fate zones) where you can find rare drops that will sell for good plat. (also, just about everything is heirloom now, meaning you can't broker it, you need to sell it after the kill but before you loot it.) Mercs help a lot, I won't go out without my healer merc although most of the time I don't really need him but it makes it all go faster.

There are classes that are better at soloing than fighters, although gear is a crucial factor to it all (and I'm not well geared myself, just reasonably), but unfortunately all I can state is that fighters aren't really what you are looking for imo, and that what you are looking for might not be an option in this game, the rare items that sell well are just impossible to get on your own.
