Tool Tip Pop-upsFollow

#1 Apr 30 2009 at 5:23 PM Rating: Decent
So - I've 'was' using the tool tip pop-ups for my links on my guild website, but since the 'change' to the new look (or the SoE Take over??) not sure ... these don't work.

Is there something I need to change? The location of the Source? I know that some of / or / all of the ID's for items have changed....but this was a nice feature for players to use...

Please help out if it's still working and I am looking to wrong place ...

So ... no one has an idea of where the ToolTip Pop-up when that people could use on their websites? It WAS very nice to use, create a link point to Allakazham's (old) and it would create a pop-up on my site of the item name and stats etc...

To bad this seems to be gone (but only for EQ2) as it seems to be working for the other games out there :(

Im still not sure what it is you were doing to be honust but if I am understanding it is likely caused by changes to the site, rather than something that SoE did.

Yes - it's because of site changes I am pretty sure....

What it is - They had a JAVA (Think it was Java) file you could point to on your guild site - what this did was, when you create say a NEWS article - say about a Raid you did, and you list the LOOT (Name with embedded link that pointed to Allakazham's site and item ID) and Winners - when you HOVERED your mouse over the link (item) it would create a POP-UP window that displayed the items name, stats, etc ... very nice feature so you don't have to have 100x Screenshots or didn't have to actually click it to look at the stats.

Im not very good at setting up code, but the following link seems to be one for wiki special functions.

Dont know if that will help you out or anything but I figure its worth a shot.

Thank you for the reply - but no go on that information ... Let me post this (The HOW TO ... or the old HOW TO... for this)
- Basiclly the hovers will not work here (Because I did a Copy/Paste) - now with that said, if you were to go to: http://guildportal.com/Guild.aspx?GuildID=258012&TabID=2168224&ForumID=1233963&TopicID=7981399&Page=1#39602223 you can see how they work - because all the others STILL Work, only the Evequest 2 have 'broken' since the "upgrade" to the site.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Adding an Allakhazam tooltip script

GuildPortal admin site link to the original post

This information is from the tooltip page on Allakhazam. It allows you to have tooltips for Everquest, Everquest II, Final Fantasy XI, Lord of the Rings Online, Warhammer Online and World of Warcraft.

Paid site
It would be easiest to add this line into your Banner Area (Control Panel > Custom Code > Banner HTML)

<script type="text/javascript" src="http://common.allakhazam.com/shared/akztooltip.js"></script>

Free site
Since it appears (or maybe it's just me) that you can't get to the footer from the "Style & Colors" link anymore, it might be better to add this line into the Custom jQuery Code box (Control Panel > Custom Code > Custom JQuery). Add the code in blue into the appropriate boxes, check the Enabled box, then Save:

Document.Ready Event Code:
return

Functions:
</script><script type="text/javascript" src="http://common.allakhazam.com/shared/akztooltip.js">

*WARNING* There must be code in both the "Document.Ready Event Code" and "Functions" boxes or you will get a blank page when you reload. And yes, the script in the functions box looks reversed, but that's the way to get it to work properly.

Examples

Purloined Gown (WAR)
Deadly Cuffs (WoW)
Nimbus of Growth (EQ)
Adventurer's Shortsword of Clouds (EQ2)
Goliard Chapeau (FFXI)
Boot Knife (LotR)
How to make the links work

The script looks for the url in the href part of the link, so make sure that the link is correct.

Find the item on Allakhazam that you want to link
Copy (Ctrl-C) the URL from the browser and paste it into your forum post or content box editor

Copy (Ctrl-C) the code below and paste it into your forum post or content box editor

<a href="http://war.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?waritem=402307">Purloined Gown</a>

Replace the code in orange with the URL of the item you just saved

Replace the code in green with the name of the item
Save the forum post or content box data.

The script from Allakhazam automatically adds the tooltips from here so there's nothing else you need to do.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thanks in advance for help ...

I'm gonna pass this up the the devs. Y'all lost me about three turns back :)

Edit: No it wasn't an SOE takeover, rofl. It's a partnership. Zam is still Zam.

If you could copy and paste a link that no longer works from your site, that would be helpful. Notice that all the item IDs changed with the new data feed from SOE, so old links won't work. The instructions page you linkd to has an old, invalid ID.

Ok - Yes, I know the ID's have changed :) - The instruction site maybe 'old' and 'invalid' but it's so because of the changes here.

Here is the CODE:
<script type="text/javascript" src="http://common.allakhazam.com/shared/akztooltip.js"></script>

This is pasted into my webpage custom Banner, Footer, or JQuery areas (Although see intructions the JQuery code is sligtly different)

Also, here is the link from the Allakazham's site - also with the same instructions (Basically):

http://www.allakhazam.com/wiki/tooltips

Notice, how ALL other MMOG's are working properly, EXCEPT the Everquest 2 - now this isn't a huge deal, but it's a VERY nice feature to have on the guild websites. This way one doesn't have to open a new window to see the "PHAT" loot everyong got ...

Also, I have even tried to look at the NEW ID and put it in the place of the OLD ID and it doesn't work ...

Again, thanks in advance for you help and looking into this issue ...

Because of the domain name change, I wrote up a smaller faster script to handle item tooltips.

Try using:

<script type="text/javascript" src="http://common.zam.com/shared/zampower.js"></script>

Let me know if there are any issues with that one.

Ok ... it now works (Once I add that script you supplied) & change over to the new Item ID code, although, the formating is "ODD" ... I guess is best way to put it. Normally, it would pop-up in a window similar to the examine window in game. .. . below is a link to what it looks like now.

I've fixed the styling on the tooltips for external sites. It may require a shift-reload to pull the new .css if you have it cached in your browser.

All,

This is now working and I would like to THANK you for you work on this (and quick response) ... it's much appreciated. The links work (with proper ID's etc) and the format/lay-out is actually very nice (better then in past).

Awesome work! So who shall I hug for this!?? :)

Hello again,

I am having an issue again on my site with this wonderful feature you have provided. When I place the above script on my page, it causes an error message to display on the bottom left of the IE Window's tool bar. Also, any of my guild mates who have still have IE7, can't even view our page page, post on forums etc.

When I remove the ZAM sript for tool-tip pop-ups, all goes back to normal. Is there any way you could just look over the script and see if there are any issues or maybe heard of any other issues from another source? I really like using this feature as it 'spruces' up the page when people can hover over an item rather then have to open another IE.
