Gorenaire used to always be up back when Kunark and Velious was still max level content. You always had to make sure you stayed far away didn't want to get aggro or you were probably going to end up dead.
I don't know that she was up any longer than any other Kunark dragon back then. Just that she was the only dragon that spawned right along a pathway that people traveled through all the time, so your odds of randomly running by her while some guild was gathering forces to take her down was higher. I do recall that this actually made taking her out more problematic since there was always the chance (very good chance actually) that some random person would run by and aggro her, and then run around in circles trying to get away. Or worse, run straight to your assembling force assuming that you could save them or something.
If you saw her up, but didn't see a force assembling, it's because they learned to do so far enough away on the side opposite where folks were traveling specifically so this didn't happen. Of course, once MB came along, the outside dragons were killed even faster, and without requiring a raid force to do is. Which made things really annoying, since traditional guild raids just couldn't get there, assemble, and kill fast enough. Which was one of the reasons why those of us with epics that required drops from fire/ice dragons got really screwed during that time period. I distinctly remember killing Trak many many times, but Gore and Sev maybe once or twice total during the entire time period in which we were doing epics. We actually maintained a raid force of level 52 characters specifically so we could continue to do Vox and Nagy raids to get around this.
We used to do VP raids all the time too. I remember that there was one specific named dragon that was just brutal. Some kind of massive dot(s) that were just really hard to manage. Can't remember which one it was, just remember wiping a lot to that one. The rest weren't too bad. Was a fun zone. I don't think I've been back since the revamp though. I do have to say, that the Kunark expansion was one of the most "fun". It's like it still had the original EQ feel, but with a whole ton of flavor and back story, and some of the best dungeon designs (I still think that Kaesora is the coolest design in the game, with Howling Stones maybe a close second). It was still pretty open ended, while Velious became more about picking paths, and factions, and having to progress through the content in a specific order. Successive expansions became even more so. Which isn't to say that's bad, but just not the same feel of the original game.
