This quest is initiated by reading the "Tome of the Vessel". The book is ground spawn in front of the snake head at the top of the commerce temple in the first room of the dungeon. (-637.44, +15.48, +244.97)
Reading the book will tell you to retrieve the vessel from the sands of the great city. This vessel is a gathering-type resource that spawns randomly in the Priestess Court (-332.42, +22.48, +111.83 confirmed).
Once you have the vessel, you will have to fill it from 4 pools. To fill the cup, you must equip it in an activatable slot and "use" it near the pools.
- The first pool is the pool that you drop down in to right at the front of the dungeon.
- The second pool is the pool just before the oiled wall in the second large chamber.
- The third pool is the first pool you drop in to in the priestess' court (the third large chamber).
- The fourth pool is the pool with the large ghost tree on the opposite side of the priestess' court.
Read the book again, and you will have to find the 3 pieces of the Writ of Akh Na'ba.
- The first piece of the writ is a kill-update from Sul'dul Scribes in the first room of the dungeon.
- The second piece of the writ is a kill-update from Rin'Dal sages in the priestess' court.
- The third piece of the writ is a kill-update from Tirik' Rah, a wandering named spawn in the priestess' court. He is a level 54 ^^^ with two level 54 adds.
This will reward you with The Writ of Akh Na'ba.
- Reading the 4th chapter of the book will tell you find a way to bless the Vessel in front of the great Akh Na'ba.
The exact location of this small platform is (-116.99, 33.00, 108.71)... where the square altar on the floor is indented a little with a triangle.
You must stand on the sparklies, and inspect the note that you were given after completing the 4th part of the quest. The sparkly platform will begin to rise... way up in the air, and you will be automatically be rewarded with a very nice item that is referred to by some as Manastone 2.0.
Inspecting the vessel further will trigger the Restoring the Vessel quest.

In an ancient tome, I've found a clue to the location of an artifact of great power. Though all is not clear yet, it appears that the vessel the tome speaks of may contain, or may once have contained water from a powerful magical river.

Reminder that if you are not standing upright the invis platform will not lift you up for the last update. Crouching will get you the message about being lifted but NOT the update. Dumb ass programming on SOE's part.

I found that by standing in the cloud of water in the larger pool at the base of the downspout I was abel to fill the vessel at once
-275, 391 was where I was able to fill the urn in the Residence Court. It wasn't in the pool but above it where the water enters the pool.
In the same way, the second pool in the Princess' Court was the small pool adjacent to the large one. The large one didn't work.

I have moved everywhere around this invisible platform...on it, in front of it, behind it...no update. I must have tried to read the parchment 200 times, moving a fraction after each failed attempt. I really need this dang item, yet it's going to make me CRAZY!

Good news is that the ring event for Tirik' Rah is on a 5 minute timer. It's exactly like squal said, kill Protectors both sides and immediately will spawn doggies or named :)

After many attempts I worked it out. Turn your graphics options to high quality and then examine the parchment. When you see the sparkly lift, jump on.

did not work at first though got message that i was rising into the air so turned around and stood looking out from the door and saw a small white platform rise up when read writ. moved forward to -115, +12, +109 and read again and it worked.

Vertical location is definitely wrong in the quest list above. It can't be 33 in the air. I got a friend to come down to activate the lift for me, and it sent me up. For some reason, the quest is bugged for me, but not my friend. The correct vertical loc is 13.

Why is Rin Priestess of the Fyr'Un listed as a related mob? Do I have to spawn her, and kill her, to get the elevator to sparkle and activate? Currenty there is an invisble platform there, but it doesn't sparkle and reading the writ does not lift me up.

I can't seem to get to the vertical location mentioned in the quest details for the elevator / last step. i can get to a height of 12 or 13, but not to a height of 33 - that is way in the air, and there's nothing on the third tier that will let me walk out that far.
I do notice that i am standing on something which is invisible and raising me above the ground, when I scroll out. But there's nothing sparkling and reading the writ just gives me the wrong location message.

Protecter of Tirik is his PH, clear them and ethier his dogs or him will spawn. other mobs surounding these will not affect spawn

you have to stand exactly where those sparklies leave the ground, they will lift you up on an invisible platform. took me about 15 minutes of trying to figure it out

Same thing, read note - it said "you begin to rise above the dead city" but nothing happened. It tells you if you read it in the wrong place.

ty Kyuubi...after multiples kills my hubby brought in his monk and your trick worked. As for the last part not working I just did it and it is fine. Are you standing in the right spot so that when u read the writ the sparkling lift carries u up?

Found named wandering when I zoned in, got lucky, but can't finish due to the next step seeming to be not working. Read that note about 50 times in different spots on area you are supposed to stand on. Looks like Thestalos broke it.... :p
on Tirak my grp kept killing him and no dogs spawned until.... what ya do is have somebody with feign death and everybody else hide, the person with feign death kills ONE mob from one of the grps and feigns, no more than that, then kill them all when they reset (couple secs) then the dogs should start spawning ;) hope it works for ya

Broken again I believe. Yesterday I killed the protectors four times and logged. Today there are no protectors and no named. Nothing has spawned there since I logged on several hours prior. I cleared the whole area.

Thought i might try after downtime right when server came up... After 32 min of camping and 3 spawns got him. Then just out of curiosity, killed the defenders and the prowlers poped... they pathed right over to the rock just North of spawn. Walked right into it and never came out any sides. Spent another half-an-hour standing there and no reset no respawns, nothing.

The named poped at ( -170.92, -3.12, +164,37 ) after you killed two groups of protector of Tiriks close to the stairs.

Tirik'Rah appears to be bugged once again. I've been killing his ph's for about 3 hours now and no sign of him.
Finished it today, 02.05.06. and it worked fine. I had no problem at all. And no need to swim in the water, use the item from the charm slot instead. ;)

The second pool in the priestess court is bugged. I'm a barbarian and I was too tall , until I was swimming I couldn't get the update. Try bringing one of your shapechange items, droag, gnome, dark elf, just in case.

Tirk'Rah is working as of 11/4/06 !!! Finally!!!! had ph's up, leveled them and Tirik'Rah spawned as it should be!!

I'm having the same trouble. Neither Tirik nor his placeholders are ever up. No hounds whatsoever. I've cleared the entire area around his spawn point in the Priestess court for a couple hours and have not seen anything.
Anyone seen Tirik Rah spawn recently? Killed his protectors at least a dozen times and neither the named or his placeholder doggies spawned. I had gotten him to spawn easily a couple months ago, when i was just exploring and not working on the vessel quest.

Tirik' Rah is 54^^^ with 2 54 adds.
The key to getting Tirik'Rah to spawn is the Tirik Protectors. There are two groups of them down in the Princess Court. Once both groups are killed, 2 big ghost dogs will spawn, either with or without Tirik'Rah. If he does bingo your done with that part, if not keep killing the Protectors, they are on a short spawn cycle.

Confirmed, no need to spawn the Priestess, or to place any of the urns on the platform.
Just stand on the platform at the loc mentioned and read the writ.

My group finished this today. We did NOT have to kill the priestess.
But, It seemed the glowy square didnt drop down until we placed 1 urn on the offering platform (and spawned placeholders).
So, it could be possible you'd have to kill the priestess too (if she popped).

The update for the writ that says you have to kill sul'dul merchants is Wrong, you need to kill sul'dul Scribes for that update. Fortunately they are in the same area as the merchants.

Killed tree and no update - do not think it is tree because quest says current zone unknown which is usually some sorta instance zone. (Poet's Palace is unknown ie)

Once you complete this quest you inspect the item and it tells you to "recharge" the Vessel. How you do that it says to "Seek out the being who still draws life from the Fyr'Un. Slay him and fill the vessel from the waters of the Fyr'Un."
My guess is you have to kill the 61 x 4 ghost tree to make this item actually usable.

You dont need to kill priestess for the last part, all you need to do is stand at the 'tip' of the triangle at the platform.
