This quest is initiated by speaking with Heron Cogcarrier at the docks in the Commonlands or Sparrow Cogcarrier at -2392.52, -38.89, -342.34 in Antonica.

She will ask you to locate an ancestor old bounty using the following tools: The Multidirectional Aerospanning Locationater (MAL) and Manual Powered Mechanical Digging Device (MPMDD) - they are in your inventory (both items are activatable - a cube and pick axe in case you're not sure of the items).

You must use the Locationater until it gives a reading of "The (MAL)'s light glows with a blinding greenish hue". This location changes randomly and it can literally be at the opposite side of the map, so just use the device. Use the MPMDD to dig up the box and take it back to Heron. To use the device look at it's color and brightness:

  • red = facing the opposite direction
  • orange = it's behind you somewhere, but not directly behind you
  • yellow = it's in front of you somewhere
  • green = straight ahead

  • faint = wrong end of the zone
  • dim = probably in your half of the zone
  • dull = getting closer
  • bright = it's really close; you can probably see its location onscreen (if it were visible)
  • blinding = well done you're standing on top of it!

So take the MAL and activate it without moving. Turn slowly until it says green, then proceed in that direction, stopping periodically to see if anything has changed. Just keep it pointed at green and you'll get there!

Once returned, this will allow you to gain access to the Smarmy Sprocket by clicking the boat behind Heron/Sparrow. This opens up the Getting the Smarmy Sprocket Underway quest.
