To finish the follow up quest you need to kill 5 mist grim whelps, talk to the halfling, then go inspect the chest under the bridge to rivervale.

Just one small correction, the 2nd step requires you to kill a void shriller, not a void shrieker. You can find the void shrillers on the way to Runnyeye, just north of the Granary.
