This quest is initiated by reading the book "Commonlands Creature Catalog". This book can be purchased from Sage Nevarius Orvalis in North Freeport.
This quest involves using the catalog skill on various creatures in the Commonlands.
Required Creatures
- A Digger Wasp - NE of the graveyard in middle of Commonlands 3, -34, 22
- A Young Vulrich - Near Dog Pond.
- A Rock Snake - On Rocks along river near Ruins of Valmarr
- A Shin'Ree Avenger - Common spawns near Wailing Caves.
- A Silt Shark - In the ocean just NE of the pier with the mariner bells. rare spawn near -1260, -148, -925 Also reported at -1376, -191, -935 and -810, -149, -1165 .
- A Molting Scorpion - Located at approx. -751, -47, -172
- A Rhinoceros - Common spawns in the western flats near the druid rings, and near the nomad camps. 381.34, -45.67, -482.97
- A Savanna Lion - Uncommon spawns near the druid rings.
- A Moon Wisp - Spawns at the Wisp Grove near the Freeport Station Griffon Tower
- A Monitor Lizard - Southeast of the Crossroad -1100, 0, 386
- A Carrion Hound - Common spawns near the Dog Pond
- A Black Wolf - Common spawns North and North East of the Wizard Spires.
- An Elephant - Common spawns near the druid rings, and near the lakes close to the nomad camps.

I am trying to catalog some creatures I read about in the Commonlands creature guide. When I'm not busy cataloging, I can store the book in my house to show off my culture and learning.
I have located all of the creatures I was looking for.I've successfully catalogued all the creatures in the Commonlands creature guide.

I found the rhicoceros at +381.34,-45.67,-482.97

Could not find the silt shark at all, found quite a few YOUNG SILT SHARKS but not the Silt shark. Is it still in the game? Is the young one the replacement for it or is it the PH? I burned up 3 usages of Totem of the Otter and had no luck at all.
If you leave the Fisherman's Dock and swim directly north towards the Zone wall invisible barrier, you'll find a Silt Shark.

Yes. I found one just now, right off the docks to the right and I kept him alive as he didn't aggro on me as I was cataloging him. He was among the young silt sharks. I am on Guk server btw. Try to kill off a few young silt sharks and see if a silt shark won't spawn in their place.
The mob page for {{eq2 mob:a silt shark}} also says "- Also spotted near -1376, -191, -935 and -810, -149, -1165", which I added above.

After much search on this board, and the ocean, I saw "The Silt shark can be found very far out northeast from the docks. (almost as far as you can swim) You will need water breathing of some sort, since its deep." previously posted by Rillek. Indeed, if you follow the right coast out to see near the pier, you will find silt sharks out near the deep end of the coast.

Found Monitor lizard at -621.31,-36.79,-82.36 after Update 25.

Stone Snake Loc 472, 146 close to ruins of valmar
Found a stone snake surrounded by fallen crusaders at +485.15, -48.13, +289.97 near the Hidden Canyon griffon tower.

I'm glad that I'm not the only one that's run around like a vulrich with its head cut off! I can't find them either. Or the obnoxious scorpions or silt sharks (find young ones, no adults).
I thought the Outlying Freeport Creature Catalogue quest was broken too though and it wasn't. You were asked to find shoreside asps and where I thought they would load there were only scorpions. I killed all the scorpions and, sure enough, an asp loaded. It may be the same thing, so keep hope! Try killing things where you know they 'used' to be.

This quest has changed and now appears to be broken since the CL revamp in LU24. It now requires, among other things, a vulrich and a noxious scorpion, neither of which I have been able to locate. After an afternoon in CL, all I've seen are fledgling, young and giant vulriches and molting scorpions. The wasp mount is no longer home to any wasps or scorpions. The digger wasps have been moved to the east of Crossroads.

Scourge rats are generally found near the Ruins of Val'Marr. You can't help but trip over them.

Location given is for monitor lizards should be -1100 +386. The other location, -550 -60, is for monitor hatchings, wont work for commonlands catalogue

I had tons of probs trying to locate the Silt Shark in commonlands, but on an interesting note there are some in Pillar of Flames that will update your commonlands catalog. Go to the Great Bonsai Tree at the top of the map and there is a ramp leading to the water at 262,-193,-1594
Follow that ramp down to the water and there you will find the sharks!

Ok, where the heck are the Monitor Lizards? I have killed all things "monitored", cataloging my heart out as I go, and nothing. The "west of The Sprawl" seems incorrect, as I am a tracker, and ran in a huge circle, in and out and all around, tracking for "*monitor*", nothing. So don't come on here and yap that duh it's right there. It's not, else I wouldn't be asking. :) So, anyone who actually knows?

"A Thumping Banded Armadillo" is no longer part of this quest. It doesn't seem to have been replaced with another mob.

The catalog no longer lists "An Antagonized Rattler", but "a dune cobra" instead. They can be found at the wasp mound a bit northeast of the Ruins of Valmarr. If none are up, try killing the other critters at the mound to get it to spawn.. worked for me.

Actually, Mith Deer are near the Crossroads. Savanna deer are the ones near the Druid Ring.
Dune Cobras are near the Wasp Hill, and there are a group of elephants near the Dog Pond.

Confirmed. a Whisp of Val`Marr has been replaced on the quest with a moon wisp, which can be found quite commomnly in the Wisp Grove near the Freeport Station griffon tower.
Recently, I restart this catalog quest after quit for a long time due to that rare whisp of Valmarr.
Date restart is 20/5.
Today I goto do it, and found the required mobs are different from what stated above and most important, it doesnt contain that rare mob anymore gladly.

I found the silt shark on a direct heading between {-1277, -190, -934} and {-972 -170 -988}.
The best way to find the shark is to zoom your camera right out, and position it directly above you as you swim so that you are looking down on yourself, and subsequently, the water... the shark is clearly visible from the surface.
If you are doing this quest, and you find the shark, please just catalog it, and let it live... as it is not always up, sometimes it has a young silt shark in its place, and the young silt shark seems much more common, and the spawn time is around 15 minutes.
As for the whisp of Valmarr... firstly, it looks like a skeleton, not a whisp.
Go to the ruins of Valmarr, there is a road in the center of the ruins, near the exact center of the ruins, next to the road is a small gathering of rocks.
Near the rocks is a dirt patch, with lots of rats on it. Stand facing the dirt patch, with the road directly behind you. Call this 90*, call the road 0*
When the whisps spawned for me, I had killed some rats on the edge of the patch, and then faced to 45* and run into the patch, when I got a fair way in to the patch the whisps spawned...
I tried this again another time, it worked the same way. Although mabey this was just luck.

I cleared all the trash in between the two towers north of the road. The whisp of Valmarr x3 spawned at 7:43PM at 459.76, -48.04, 192.70.

Special thank you to Largo who spawned the Whisp of Marr, and then stood there like a punching bag for 20 minutes until I could get to him to catalogue the Wisp. Finally done with that quest. Thanks again friend !!

Make that 9 nights now without spawning the Whisp of Valmaar. I wonder if there is some silent trigger event that people might have unknowingly done, but that I have not done that might allow the trigger coordinate to spawn the skels when run over or near.

OK.....this Whisp of Valmaar is driving me nuts. I have run around and around the sand patch for 5 nights now wihtout spawning it. I have tried clearing all the crusaders at the towers, as well as yard trash. Is there anything else that I can try to get the Whisp to spawn?
I swam around killing young silt sharks til i found a silt shark on track. killed it on location -1187, -148, -751. Somewhat NE of mariners bell.
For me "A whisp of Valmarr" x 2 + "shade of valmarr" popped on the location after i killed a fallen crusader guarding a nearby tower to the west, and then running to the sandy patch again. i got attacked, but got the catalog!

The "whisp of Valmarr" appears to be part of a ring event at the location listed, just run around the middle of the sandy patch north of the road through Valmarr ruins and it should start (may have a timer between events). The encounter will autoengage when it spawns and you will know it is happening when you draw your weapons, for me the event spawned three steps:
1. L19 Group: "whisp of Valmarr"+, "whisp of Valmarr", "shade of Valmarr"
2. L19 group: 4x "an unresting plight"
3. L20 group: "a forlorn sorcerer", "a forlorn missionary", "Grethyn Ralstrom"++
Because it is a spawned event, they will likely chase you until you zone or you die though I cannot confirm it.

Whisp of Valmarr spawned for me at 2:30am game time shortly after a new instance came up.
I had been trying to get this mob to spawn for days with no luck. They (there were actually 3 whisps/skeletons) were exactly at the loc listed above (473, 188) and popped automatically when I ran over that spot.

Wrong wisp Vortimous. Not the lightbringer whisp, but the whisp of valmaar, a skeleton that spawns after killing many guardians that are in the area.

The wisp spawns at night by driud circle. I have seen him as early as 8:30 PM and as late as 3:00 AM, but once someone kills him, you will have to wait until night the next in game time till he spawns again. He also drops the start of a heritage quest, so he is sought after by many....

Have stood my ground it this wretched horid place for two full game days, and have yet to lay eye on a Whisp. Perhaps Snee, while all his intentions were I'm sure very noble, forgot to consider that maybe others in the area were triggering these beasts? Seeing I've been alone have not benifited from such a cause.

Digger Wasps are located short way NW of the graveyard found in the middle of the Commonlands. Just look up.

Ok all. The Whisp of valmarr will spawn anywhere you are in the ruins after nightfall. On TOP OF YOU. And if you are planning of cataloging and runnig, know this. They will chase you a LOOOOOONG way, i died closer to the Nek station than the castle ruins.
Just hang out in ruins for a while and they will come.

Really Agrivated, been killing everything in commonlands ocean for nearly 2 days now and still no slit shark, really frustrating... have to love EverBrokenQuest II... wish they would make sure the quests are working before releasing them or applying patches that break them.
