Just to verify:
Corrupted dyrads will update
skittering spiders changed to skittering scavengers found in the castle to the right as soon as you go in

I got the update from the corrupted dryads in Oakmyst. The Spectral students only appear near the ruined mage tower at night. The skittering scavengers in the same place during the day count as Skittering spiders.

As of some new patches that made some big changes to the forest ruins, the quest has changed. You now need...

a spectral student
a skittering spider
a corrupt dryad

So far, I haven't found the skittering spider or corrupt dryad yet. The game is NOT talking about the corrupted dryads in Oakmist.

corrupted dryads in Oakmyst is acceptable.

As of this date, a badger cub is no longer on the list for Oakmyst forest but instead it is corrupted dryad in Oakmyst.

I got this quest last night, and it wouldn't update after killing bog sluge and fairies. I /bug reported it.
Considering most of the creaures listed are gray to the character that got the quest at lvl 13

Got and finished this quest today.
Seems the quest is changed, no more needing the rare spawn in FR.

Only need devoted follower instead of Flamepaw.

I have done this quest with two different characters. I heard you get a furniture book reward with this quest, but both times all I got was experience....anyone else had the same problems or is there just no book reward?

The Flamepaw loyalists spawn with the Named spawn in the tower. You must clear the tower a couple times for them to spawn
