This quest can no longer be started in game.I found an old note wrapped around the neck of a great bear in the Oakmyst forest. Apparently, it was written by an old druid who lived here in the forest. This druid left something behind for those like me that spend time in the forest.
I found the tree the druid spoke of and it looks like he had a map hidden there.After following a couple of clues, I was able to find the tree that the druid, Phyndin Silverystream, marked on the map he left in the tree. It seems the token he left behind was an earring he used to wear.

I have killed Oakmyst Great Bears alot since I started, and haven't even once found a note. So it is not a Common drop.

This first tree that is on the Island is at loc +924, 2.22, -273.

The note also can be found on Oakmyst Spirits, as well as the Great Bears. It is a chest drop only, not lore, tradeable, & drops frequently.
You do not have to examine anything at either location, to get the quest update.

I am one of the best Questers on the Splitpaw server and I know the location of this item. It drops from a chest from the following Creature:

Instructions for the Quest:
1. Goto the Tree in the middle of the rivers on its own.
2. Goto where the Spiderqueen often attacks you, its that tree you claim the reward. (tree close to cave)

The quest starter item, 'an old note' has no flags at all so its tradeable. Chest drop only.

I did complete the quest, the second tree is a little trickey as it does not exactly 'over look the waterfall', but with the help of all you lot, i mannaged to complete the quest ;)

My understanding is that it always drops from grubdigger. Only one copy though.

Item has changed. Just did the quest and got:

Man am I just stupid or what I tried for 30 mins to get up to that 2nd tree. Is there a trick or am I trying to get to the wrong tree?

I just did this quest. It's very easy. When you find the right tree, you have to run all around it to get it to trigger, just running up to it won't cut it. Of course, everyones already said this.
What i wanted to say, is that for the second tree, you have to be careful because the Spider Queen is right next to it. At level 12, she cons blue with up arrows - but as a bard, its almost impossible to solo anything with up arrows. So, if you do this at a low level, I would suggest getting your mouse ready to click sprint as soon as you find the right tree... Spider queen's poison is lethal.

The tree is on a cliff outside the Dryad cave. Just walk around it right up against it until it registers. You have to be in exactly the right spot.

I got the note, found the first tree, got second note. However, when I go to the second tree nothing triggers. I have checked every tree in the grove to the left of the waterfall, in cluding the ones on the cliff near the cave. Any clue if I am missing something?

I got this item dropped by a normal bear in oakymust entitled "An old note".

Quest starts by examining "an Old Note" and it dropped off a Oakmyst great bear for me.

This item is initiated by examining the item "An Old Note". This item is dropped on monsters in the Oakmyst Forest (confirmed on Oakmyst Defenders, Oakymyst Spirits, Oakmyst Great Bears and Grubdigger).
The first step is to find a tree on an island in a lake. This is found just outside the Dryad caves, and must be examined to get credit. (+924, +2.22, -273)
The next tree you must find is on the left side of the waterfall, up the hill near the Corrupted Dryads (+914, +15, -199).
After finding this location you will receive your reward.
