This quest is given by Sarchel the Storyteller. Unlike traditional quests where you hail and click, in this one you simply stand next to him and wait for him to finish telling his long-winded story. Once the story is completely told an offer box will automatically appear. This quest takes place in the Sundered Splitpaw: Trial of Harclave solo instance ( -36.45, -68.30, -66.98 ) , which is only accessible when you are on this quest. The quest level will scale to your level, within the range of 20-70.
When you first enter the instance be sure to click the torch and rock next to you on your left. You will need this during the quest.
When you head in, you should head to the left, using the plank to cross. There are eight braziers scattered around the area which you must light using the torch. They are at:
66, -80, -205
91, -70, -169
104, -70, -165
43, -67, -276
73, -67, -286
104, -79, -212
63, -60.5, -318 (will have to do a lot of box stacking to get to this one and the next)
47.2, -60.8, -315
After this you must open the Ark. The ark is located in between the final two braziers (the ones that you had to stack boxes to get to) at 51.16, -60.94, -318.44 . Once this is lit you will be blessed by Harclave and able to defeat monsters much higher than you due to this blessing. This is important because you will now need to defeat a bunch of Heroic monsters.
Immediately after this undead will begin to spawn around the Ark of Harclave. You can kill all of these and the loot is decent. You do not need to kill them, however. Invisibility will allow you to pick and choose your opponents very easily.
After doing this you want to work your way to the Zygomyd Spore King at -12.63, -66.96, -179.26 in the zone. This will require you to move around some planks back at the entrance and then jump over the ledge. One tip is to rotate the planks using the mousewheel. This will make it easier to make it across.
After killing him you will need to kill Rosch Val Gornas, the skeleton king and retake the throne. This is also in the Trial of Harclave, in the skeleton area. You will need to move some boxes around to reach him.
After killing him you can click the throne behind him to be teleported back to the Splitpaw Den and to receive your reward.
I did this at level 28 on my Fury. No real problems. It just took a long time since my map didn't work. I just made sure to pull the wanderers solo. As others have said, if you have inviz, this quest is a breeze; unfortunately I didn't..LOL
/i Man may sin from ignorance or folly but what of a wise man or nation, pledged to cleave to the Light, whose charity is so great that they refuse to protect the innocent for fear of injuring the guilty? /i
When did the 8hr lockout come into affect when I did this eons ago when splitpaw was released there was no lockout timer. I can't stand it now. Taking my 35 templar through the harclave now and am on try 15(LOL) I always get to the buff and I die before getting to the king and have to wait 8hrs to go back in. That is just silly the lockout should only be in affect after you complete the entire quest.
Anyways... good quest have gotten 60% exp in it so far and will probably ding while doing it. Just remember once you get the buff go back the way you came to get to the shroom king.
Oh! I forgot to mention if u have taunt it helps..with the fungus king. There is a tunnel path that is a dead end to the left when u enter. Use this area and draw in ur enemies. This way you only have to fight 2 mobs of about 6 and the king all in 3 seperate sessions (Ex. one mob ,then the second mob, then finnaly the king). the process should only take 3-5 minutes.
M lvl 26 monk did this Quest with a lil difficultybut only at the end......but i never died. I came really close with no color in my helath bar but i never died defeating the skeletong king (i also faced 2 of his minions and the same time, which were lvl 29 heriocs 2 arrows done...if i recall right). Over all this Quests is a breeze if u have invis...it helps A LOT! I only faced 25-30 monsters for the whole Quest. I was glad that my monk got invis under lvl 26. for everyone else.It can be difficlut but for a monk it should be very if any. LOL and GOOD LUCK!
Has this quest changed? I tried it today with my 23 paly and died almost immediately after touching the arc. when I did this quest ages ago with a 25 necro I was healed of damage almost as fast as I took it and beat the monsters just by letting them pound my damage shield, and found the quest simple. But my highly armored, battle-capable paladin died before even getting off the arc platform.
Finished this quest today - 3rd time's the charm, heh - After you get blessed by the Ark of Harclave, the rest of the quest should be cake -- just manage your agro carefully. MOBs are not too social, I was able to pull a group using a CA, and the group standing right by them ignored me. Beware of the wandering agro -- many MOBs wander the tunnels off the open cave areas -- I went through and killed all wandering before I started working on a roomfull of encounters.
Easily cleared the whole zone as a 44 Conj - some of the encounters were 47 Heroic - and I could nearly have done it without pet at all, the Blessing makes even someone wearing Papeir Mache and Cheap Cologne into a serviceable tank -- I normaly have 2400 HP and 3000 Power, the blessing gave me total of 9,000+ HP and 13,000+ Power. There also seems to be an excelent Rejuvination factor -- was getting healed for hundreds of HP - even in a fight.
There is an 8-hour lockout on this zone after success, but the lockout applies after you light the braziers - BEFORE you have a chance to do battle with any of the Heroics. When first entering zone, there are 2 easy MOBs on the area you are on. Use the plank to reach the next raised area, and light the first 2 braziers. A tunnel leads off this second area, where the rest of the braziers and the Ark are located. After opening the Ark, I had to use both of the planks (the one you used first, and another laying on the second area) to get to the 3rd raised area - where the mushroom squad is standing. WARNING - even with both planks, you still have to jump from the end of the plank to the 3rd area. Do NOT fall into the lower area at this point, or what happened to me will happen to you - the elevators (look like gears) will take you back to the first raised area (by the zone-in) , and you will NOT be able to get back to the second area -- no plank to use. Only solution at this point is to zone out, and try the quest again in 8 hours. In my not-so-humble opinion, the lockout timer should NOT count the quest as 'successful' until after you kill the Zygomyd Spore King and the Rosch Val Gornas. I have sent in /bug report on this.
I did this with my mage eons ago. Yes I tanked but only while I recast my pet spell. I had a good friend that gave me a master pet spell. The giant spider one. I believe I was 37 or 39 when I did it. failed below those lvls. Remember you will have the short duration spell that adds 5 mini pets. The spell gnoll and skeleton Master's. And your heroic opertunities. Good luck
Failed this twice now with a 22 conjuror and 26 brigand. The fact that they expect me to be able to solo heroics with harclave buff on seems like kind of a joke :/ On both characters I got to rosch and died before I got his second add even 50%, so don't expect to solo this unless you can tank decently or heal. Oh one more thing, spirit of harclave does not go on your pet, so if your a pet class, you'll be tanking.
Btw, does anyone know if this gives any other reward besides exp?(flag maybe?) I am kind of disapointed I can't solo it and hope thats the only thing i'm missing :o
Lvl 47 Troubador here unable to get into the zone. I don't know why, can anyone tell me please? I've listened to the storyteller and got the quest, have never completed it before - but when i try to zone in it just says 'you do not meet the entry requirements'
I didn't do this quest much and started doing it at 69 right before KoS went active. The quest gives an EASY 6% xp at 60. Great quest for topping of a level or getting out of debt. But, sadly, after doing it so many times, or once your faction is max (not sure which) you will no longer recieve the quest. This really broke my heart. Was hoping to use this quest to give me a little boost every now and then form 60-70. But, if you can still do it I would recomend it at any level. All mobs are grey except named at 62, and it literaly takes 5 min to kill the two named and leave.
Sarchel no longer offers me the quest as a 55 Fury. By that point it's scarcely worth doing anyway, since at 54 I only received about 8% exp for completing it, but that was still 8% exp in under ten minutes with only moderate risk, plus about 5g worth of guaranteed chest drops from the two named that you're required to fight.
If you have invis and can solo toe to toe with even con mobs, then this quest is almost trivial to complete. The only mobs you are required to fight are the Zygomid Spore King (plus about six adds) and Rosch Val Gornas (plus two adds). Not only do you not have to fight the swarms of heroic mobs in between the Ark and the Throne, doing so is usually a complete waste of time--these mobs are super-nerfed and give you almost no exp, and only rarely drop anything of worth. It is worth popping in here every time you level for some easy exp.
If you cannot invis, then you will have to waste close to an hour fighting your way through tedious and worthless mobs to get to the throne, and by your late 40's your time is better spent in an exp group.
Actually I just did this quest again and got 9% for finishing it at level 50. So my previous post about getting 5% was wrong and you get even less experience killing the mobs than I thought.
This quest is still worth while if you can invis, since you can quickly light all the torches, touch the ark of harclave, then just invis back to the hallway before the spore king and kill those roamers, then kill the king and then invis and kill the boss at the end. You can get better part of 10% of a level in under 15 minutes doing this.
After the last live update the mobs give very little experience for killing them. You get more for killing an even con solo mob then you do one of these group mobs in here. I did get around 5% for completing the quest at 47 though. Assuming you killed everything and completed the quest you would probably end up with around 15% of your level (at least in the 40's).
They did really nerf the drop rate of chests too. Not counting the Spore King or the end boss, I only got 2 chest drops.
You can't take more than yourself into harclave. As it has been said before just take you time and slowly go through the area. I am curious to see what it is like after the lu16 patch. Just acquired several new Adept 1 and 3's, it should be a bit exciting now :)
A couple more tips. If you're a caster then take the normal level until you try it and know that you can do a harder level.
Don't fight the mobs at intersections of the tunnels because you will pick up roamer mobs also. Pull back into whatever tunnel you just cleared before you start the fight.
The ark seems to use a root effect on the mob that you have targeted and sometimes on others. If you have trouble with a group then back away and keep fighting - will reduce damage to you from melee at least for a few seconds.
There is a comprehensive summary of this quest on Clan Whitestorm's guild website in the forums > Library if you don't want to have to read through all the separate posts to get all the info. www.clanwhitestorm.com
Ok I just completed this quest and I got teleported back to the den. How can check to see if I gain favor or not. Is there anymore to this quest than what I have just done
Died 1st try on 2nd gap (fell to my death) . Definitely best to use both boards in crossing 2nd gap. Great exp, but market is saturated with this type of loot. Adepts should fetch a few gold, though.

as far as the gnoll skellies the healers are all Nisch regarless of other titles
I just leveled to 40 and now my invisibility doesn't work anymore to get to the Ark. After I kill the very first mob, I wait right there until a roamer comes around, pull him over the crevice (they can cross over), kill him and then a second roamer that comes through before I ever jump over the crevice. Then I kill the other mobs one at a time that are by the braziers. In the next room, I kill the 2 roamers first again while standing in the tunnel still, then kill the mob on the right and light that brazier, then the one on the left and go up the left tunnel. There will be 1 or 2 roamers in there to kill the same way, then singles by the braziers and the boxes. After getting the ark power, I pull all the group in the center up to me and kill them, then gradually pull the close groups one by one up to me at the ark to prevent aggro from the one or two roaming groups that will show up. With any new group, kill the healers first. Herbalist, sulphurous secretions, skellies named forlorn, blighted, ghastly, deathless - there may be more but these are the ones ive noted.
This quest can be done while sleeping, it is free xp and good for the taking, once you get the buff, if you take one mob at a time, you don't have to do anything, i was watching TV when i did it, fight was finised, just move to the next mob. As i said, free xp.
footy: I only know that I got down there by falling - and I didn't die. But this was after I got the ark's buff. I am a Conjurer, and not big on taking damage so I think you can survive if your at full health and already buffed when you take the plunge. I took over 4,000 points of damage and was in the red.
Bad news is, I was immediately attacked by one or two groups of blue-con mobs. Believe it or not, survived that too, though barely. But if there is a way to pick a better spot to fall, I'd try that - out of aggro if possible. I wasn't looking when I went, just fell...
Not sure there's another way down, but if anyone knows of one maybe they'll post. Have fun and good luck!
Here's one tip I did not see posted. After you open the Ark and kill the undead that spawn at the Ark, you have to jump down amist lots of mobs. If you happen to agro to many, which I have done. Run and jump back up to the Ark area so the agro will clear. You can also try to jump down on the left and start with those mobs. There are a few roaming groups that will agro and that's where you can get too many to handle. Just run back up to the Ark area. Rinse and repeat...
Xizokat Numenorian 38 Paladin, The Forsaken Unrest "Farewell, wherever you may fare"
For those who dual wield, or single for that matter, pay attention to the weapons that drop. I picked up a Lleth Val Dagger and a Rosch Val Kris, both of which I'd seen on the market - usually with a damage rating of around 18. In Harclave they had a damage rating of 45. When I left they were 18.6 . Didn't notice till I was almost done but will certainly have them out next time I go in. Dual wield with 45 rating in each hand is a trip; verrry nice indeed. A complement to the blessing i suppose. =D
Gromm Breakbone 49 Guardian Mercenaries of Darkness Toxullia
When I look down the cliff I can see 2 teleports but I have no idea how to get down there. I tried jumping but it kills me. Anyone have any idea how to get down there.
You really dont need to go back up as the pervious post states. its called TAKE it slow and take on ONE mob at a a time. THen with the heals you get along with the buffs you will be ok.I sometimes SUCK at battling(due to lack of sleep) and i havnt ied once yet following this method
One strategy for dealing with mobs in the room after u become a hero is kill all u can then run back up your box staircase jump to the area where u became a hero and they cant follow. Pwr and health up descend kill what u can run back repeat till done.
Ok tried this for the first time last night. Lit all the braziers and got my God like buff. I killed the undead guys that spawned around the arc and then jumped down and found myself being attacked by 30 or 40 mobs and even with over 10000 hp wasn't long before I was dead!
I have read that you don't need to kill the undead around the arc and then the other mobs don't spawn, is this true and does this muck up the quest? Also lots of mentions here about using invis to get to next named but as a Guardian I don't have invis so can I do this?
You can rotate planks (and anything else) by using the + and - keys on the numeric keypad if you don't have a scroll-wheel.
The boxes are easy to stack if you jump on top of the one you want to stack it on. You can still jump even when you are holding a box already.
The boxes disintegrate a little bit every time you place them, however you can build a stack without running back and forth by always stacking your 'old' boxes on top of the newest one - so long as the newest one has not been moved twice you will be able to move and climb on the whole stack (even if some of them have collapsed already).
If you build your bridge to the mushrooms using two planks, then later if you run into too much aggro it is possible to run back across it and you will be able to let the creatures reset. If you build it using the box and plank idea this will not be possible.
Make sure you have the fattest end of the planks towards you or they won't reach very far at all.
Depending on the snare amount of your invisibility it can be possible to kill only one gnoll before getting the super-powers. The bridge over the first gap reaches just far enough that an invis character can jump the rest (using warlock invis at level 22 this is true).
BEWARE: since LU12 some of the gnolls in the 'difficult' instance will see through your invisibility. The gnolls are very close together in here, so if some of your boxes or braziers are guarded by these see-invis gnolls, you will probably have to clear almost the whole front area before you get the powers.
Be careful after killing the first two groups of mushrooms, the next corridor branches and you will normally get major aggro if you don't pull the next 3 or 4 groups back down towards the ledge far enough.
The mushroom king will almost always drop a chest, depending on your level the gear in it can be very nice or just ordinary. He has a small chance of dropping a master chest (I got one out of about 35 clearances so far).
The boars on the shelf at the back are mainly a waste of time at the moment. From 35(ish) clearances I have received one box (ordinary adept 1), some swine meat and a swine tail. There does not seem to be any rare spawn, or rare loot from these two groups.
If you want to kill the boars on the shelf then place your ladder so it stops in front of the right-most set of claws and a little back from the edge. As soon as you get onto the top step (four boxes needed) you will draw aggro from one of the two groups (rather than both at the same time!) and you can jump down and fight them on the ground so they don't keep popping into walls and the ledge.
Have fun, this is my favourite solo zone so far :)
It was the scroll wheel, you were right. What a relief to get that finally. I did it twice before using the two board approach, fell and had to zone out because I couldn't get over the first gap again. Like Penstar. Heck of a tip, scrolly wheel ;-) thanks
My biggest problem seems to be moving the boxes. I have a really hard time stacking them and wasn't able to stack for the final mob. Pulled with an arrow . Had been invis so was attacked by the whole room and died of course. But wouldn't have been able to sit or click on throne anyway. any help with placing boxes?
I did the same as Roisan. I put one box right on the edge, then put the plank on top, rotating it so it pointed the right way, and was angled the way I wanted. I was able to jump onto the board, run and jump to the other side easily.
I do not recommend the two board approach. I tried this once, and while it was easy to cross, later on I fell in the pit, and had to use the cog elevator to get back up. The elevator deposits you on the first ledge. But now you have moved your board, and you cannot get back to the second ledge. :( Had to start the whole thing over.
I did this thing WAY too many times, so have a couple more strategies. If you have sneak or other invisibility, you only have to kill 2 gnolls before you get the godlike powers. You kill the first one on the first ledge, recover (I was in the red). Then make your bridge to second ledge, cross and stay by the wall. The second gnoll will come to you. After you kill him, go invisible and light all the torches, including the ones on the ledge by the ark.
After you touch the ark, you will be imbued with many powers, which come in handy to kill the undead gnolls that spawn around you. Both the skeleton master and gnoll master skills work on these, as well as on the other gnolls in the zone.
After killing the gnolls around the ark, pick your next group carefully. I had best luck by shooting an arrow at one directly below the center of the ledge, then jumping down. That avoided a couple single aggro ones on the sides.
Then work away on the groups one by one, pulling them to a cleared place. While you are in this room, you have an additional godlike power. The Ark will heal you! I was healed regularly, for up to 800 some Health at a time! It was not hard for me to stay at nearly full health, even when I accidentally pulled 2 groups of gnolls.
This healing happens anywhere in that room, so after the room is cleared, try to pull the gnolls from the next room into the healing room to fight them.
Clear every dang gnoll from that side of the ledge. Now it is mushroom time. As some have said, pull one group of mushrooms by shooting it, or probably using some sort of spell. They will figure out a way to get on your side of the ledge. Once they were there, they tend to hit a couple times and then run back. I solved this by mezzing one of them. The rest stayed around even when the mez wore off. Pull the second group of mushrooms and handle the same way.
Cross your bridge and jump to the mushroom ledge. Clear all mobs between you and the next room where the spore king is. Once you have done that, use a ranged pull to pull just the Spore King. He comes alone, and is not hard to defeat with your super powers.
Invis again and find the Skeleton King, move boxes around while invisible to climg to his ledge. With your back pressed to the back of his ledge, near the throne, attack him, and his two helpers. Touch the throne and you are done!
This quest no longer gives 9 gold, but around 10% xp and the Skeleton King dropped a chest with a couple pieces of armor in it.
As an alternative to rotating planks to get to the mushrooms, try this...
Take the boxes from the brazier area and stack them up at the ledge, building out over the chasm. Then put the plank that points in the right direction on the top box.
I could run out onto the plank and jump onto the other side.
Sixtus - the boards may be like house furniture to rotate. You use the scroll wheel on your mouse and it rotates the items... If you don't have a mouse wheel check your keybinds for rotating stuff in Options etc. Hope this will help - I haven't gotten to this quest yet you see...
If you do not wish to fight all the undead that spawn after getting the buff then don't. Simply after clicking on the ark and the buff Icon pops up on the screen, then walk off the ledge. They take a few seconds to spawn and you can get out of agro rage just by walking off the edge. None of the rest of the undead will spawn untill you kill the first group of 6. These are NOT need to die to complete the zone and finish the quest. Though as allready mentioned its pretty good xp.
