This quest is given by Stalker Pulsarian after you complete the Owlbear Extinction contract (see related quests).
You must kill Shadowed Men until one of them drops a book. Some can be found around ( -132, 90, -2242 )

The contract reads - "The former Stalker leading the previous expedition into Nektulos was last seen being torn apart by one of the many shadowed men that hide within these woods. She maintained a journal of her expedition's findings that must be recovered from these shadowed men. The first mercenary to find and recover the book will be rewarded for their effort."
I have found the former Stalker's journal.

I went to the areas previously posted and didn't find them up at the time. I checked out EQMaps and found some heroic versions of them in the furthest northwest corner of the zone, near the Nightfall Shaman.
You can find them at:

Going back to the Gul Thex Citadel for the next quest, I was wandering around the D'Morte Burial Chambers again and found two sitting there. Just kill the PHs there.

Looks like they fixed it as of LU20. started getting the message "quest item not found" when killing shadowed men. Finally found mine at +90.97, -588.91.

Finished this quest today. There is now text to say if quest item was found when you kill the shadowed men. I killed the ones to the left of the canyon pass coming out of the port. It dropped on the 7th shadow man.

quest fixed, got my update by killing shadowmen around -1400 -1300

worked on this quest for some time. Read the posts and figured ok its bugged or something. I too never got the no quest item found as I was killing the shadowmen. Then today as I was working on a different quest which needed drops from shadowmen the journal completed! So it does work, you just dont get the little saying that the quest item wasnt found. I hope that sheds some hope for those of you out there killing loads of these. i cant say how many but i did kill alot over 50 if not more.

Doesn't work on Permafrost. At least it doesn't say, "Quest item found/notfound".
These are the ones that I have been killing since I received the quest months ago. I have also sent in a bug report. I'm wondering if they fixed the quest but only if you start new?

Same as the rest of you. Killed dozens apon dozens. Nothing reacting to their deaths. I do wonder if it is either of these:
Quest requests the contunued killing of "Shadowmen" and the mob in said discribed location are "Shadowed Men". Maybe there is a difference...
Either that or this:
The quest askes that you kill shadowmen until they "Drop" the journal. Maybe there is a location or type of shadowmen that rarely drop a lore item journal that must be examined to update.
These are only ideas of a desperate man, looking for some suggestions as resiprication.
Please report /bug or cs ticket as you come across this specific quest. SOE will eventually respond or repair if consistant, i would think.

Quest is bugged. No update no matter how many Shadowmen I kill (dozens and dozens since I got the quest).

Killed close to 200 of them now over the last couple levels, never seen the journal

Have any of you tried the Heroic shadowmen up on the right leading up to Lavastorm? Just a thought since they are heroic just like the quest...

I've killed hundreds and hundreds of shadowed men in Nektulos Forest, completing the Lore and Legend quest, and several others that required me to kill them over the course of 10 levels.

I must have killed 50 or so in tis area,, & no updates. Just as Korihor said "found or not found".

I've done the same as Korihor, but haven't received quest updates for the kills (no quest item found). I've also killed shadowmen in the cove on the way to the TS docks with the same results. I believe there is another group of shadowmen on EQ2maps somewhere.

Been killing the shadowmen just to the left of the path after you leave the dock area and into the forest. None of them gave me an quest update. I usually get a message such as 'Quest item not found'...but not with these ones.
