He first sends you to the mine lift to see if it's still functional. Just go there and it'll update your quest. A few orcs will spawn behind you, but you can either sneak through this or fight them--there are about 4, and they don't auto aggro, so if they're greybies, you're all set.
Go back to Sashra, he sends you off to collect five scalps from A Sullon Centurion, A Tallon Raider and A Vallon Grunt. Grunts are near the lumbermill at 577, -21, -242 . Raiders are linked in the camp east of the docks along with Warpriests. Centurians you can find either in a group of two (each a single ^) along the road to the Citadel. You can find a few wandering with a Sullon Lieutenant, and you can find four at the first gate on the way to DFC. This part is timed at 60 minutes, but the timer stops as soon as you get the last kill, so it's not a big problem. Once you have the kills, go back to Sashra.
Now that he takes you seriously, he asks you to go kill Sentry Goorlux. Goorlux is spawned by killing a A Deathfist Sentry near -108, -23, -282 in Zek. He is a 37 or 38^^ mob. Kill him, then go back to Sashra. Again.
Infiltrator Stryjin is in the SW tower of the courtyard. Upon zoning in you'll be attacked by archers, and eventually a small wave of orcs, followed up by a named, will run at you. Head for a tower on the east or west side, where there are ladders up, dispatch the wave and named, then go up to the ramparts. Once you reach the SW tower, jump down into the hole there, and Infiltrator Stryjin will be at 30.08,8.67,58.39 .
She asks that you help free three captured Green Hood women by handing them Stones of Recall. These women will disappear for a time shortly after hailing them, so ensure that everyone in group times their hails well. The three women are:
For Shelmay's update, at least one person in group will need to obtain the key from Chief Torturer Goortz first.
Once you have freed all three women, make your way back to Infiltrator Stryjin and let her know what happened. She doesn't depop, so you don't need to fret about timing on this. She lets you know that Emperor Fyst was carrying the Short Sword of the Ykesha and informs you that you should kill him.
To get Fyst to spawn, you must kill every named in the zone (see this page for a full listing). Clear the bloodguards surrounding Fyst's throne before attacking him or they will assist. Upon his death, the quest will auto-complete.
I met up with the Green Hoods while in the Orcish Wastes and spoke to one of their number, Sashra Thaltalis. He was very busy preparing to rescue his comrades from an ambush... or avenge their deaths. I offered my help but Sashra was unwilling to get assistance from an outsider. He finally relented but it looks like he just gave me something to do to get out of his hair.

I defeated Emperor Fyst of the Deathfist Empire in combat and claimed the Short Sword of Ykesha! After rescuing the Green Hood women who were captured in the ambush, Stryjin told me he saw Fyst carrying the old artifact. He suggested that if I took it from Fyst that the Emperor would lose a lot of respect with his peers.
After all the updates to Deathfist here is how to get Fyst.
1. Go to arena and hit the gong. This will summon Fyst 2. After Fyst finishes talking, his Champion will appear. Lv 42 3 ups with very nasty kickback. All but the MT should stay well clear and either cast spells or ranged attack. 3. Once the champion is dead, start killing named. We killed five, the two princes, the torturer (in back of jail area) the alcheamist, and the prophet. Then the message popped up that said Fyst was on the terrace. 4. VERY IMPORTANT: Make sure ALL the Bloodguards are dead BEFORE attacking Fyst. Otherwise all the Bloodguards will rush to to Fyst from ANYWHERE in the castle and attack you. We counted 5-6 Bloodguards in the castle not counting those on the terrace itself. 5. As an optional step, kill all the archers on the walls as the arrows they shoot have been drasticly upgraded. Amost killed us at lv 60. 6. Now you are ready to Fyst. He is now a lv 42 3 up Heroic mob.
We just killed all the named we could find. The final one was a prince (one of two we found) and that finally got Fyst to spawn up top in the middle (open air spot). He was 43+++ and when we engaged (two 54 druids) we got about 3-4 adds and we quickly died.
Next time we're going to start with the two princes and will keep our fingers crossed that it's all we have to kill. And we'll bring a higher level tank with us. :)
Need to make sure all nameds are killed and the guy in the throne room ( best way for this guy is to stand right by the entrance back facing the door to roon ). When you go for Fyst be aware that he has memory wipe, once he knocks you back he will then pick on some poor soul to attack next. ( best place for this kill is to stand with back facing his throne, otherwise like me and many others you will get knocked off ) Hope this helps
we breezed thru this quest with a 49 zerker, 49 wizzie and 51 templar until we got to the arena.... knockback?? shoot that guy threw us up in the air and all around like rag dolls... what a hoot but no way to kill him without a group..we took back a full group and killed him no problem without breaking a sweat.... there is only the one guy in the arena now but after you kill him where the heck do you find Fyst???? we went up to his throne up top and not there.. someone said he is in his quarters...where is that??
Once you kill the guy in the arena, you then need to kill the named in the citadel till a message "Fyst is now upset at your actions and awaits you" or something like that appears. He can be found on his throne with other guards. He is alone, but also has huge knockback. Fell back into courtyard and with back against wall, negated that trick :)
All the discussing here about Deathfist castle is now wrong as everthing inside has been changed. All the doors are now unlocaked and you can go anywhere you want with out have to kill anything.
Nothing in the zone will repop execpt for Sentries. However all single mobs are heroic 3up and paired mobs are herioc 2 ups. The names are much harder than before as well. We were doing this with a grp of lv 50 Warden, lv 46 Pally and Illousionist, and lv 47 Monk and still died several times. Most of the mobs are lv 40's with some lower and a few higher ones intermixed.
Also while in the courtyard, archers shoot arrows from the battlements. So plan accordingly. Hugging the walls and fighting in buildings will eliminate this annoyance.
There is still a gong in the arena which you hit to trigger Fyst. However only one mob shows up, a lv 40 named orc herioc 3up with a hellish knowback and a HUGE amount of hit points. Very nasty. Once he dies, you then need to find Fyst in his quarters.
You can actually go in the sewers, go down the stairs inside to the arena kill the named in the arena, then go back upstairs to kill Fyst without ever having to go in the courtyard or the battlements.
However the amount of AA points and experience you get for exploring the castle is AMAZING. The entire group go 2-3 new AA ppoints for exploring as every room now gives AA experience. Even if you have been through the castle before it is definately worth while to explore it again.
note if you have a wizard or warlock in grp they can pull emperor fyst from outside we got locked out tried to get necro to pull, didn't work. then i pulled with some sort of lightning strike from just outside arena he ran inside room we were in, we killed him and everyone got update. cheers =) beats the 18hr respawn time
the location for Sentry Goorlux is wrong, i did it few times and each time he spawned exatcly at -287, -28, -325, there is somehow always a harvestable bush near him, his PH spawn exactly there too. When he spawn, he start to run forst to North to the Hills, then turn back and run to the road, stand few seconds there and run to the house and despawn, so the better spot to catch him is to stand by the road, and watch when he pop.
Crap.....just tryed this with about 8 people in a 4+4 raid.....fyst killed us and now i think we are locked out for a long time. like 3 days... can anyone confirm?
managed to complete this quest this evening. solo'd up to the dfc, then joined a group (am 52 guard atm). group was me, mentored to 48, with 42 conj, 48 pally, 48 templar, 50 ranger (mentored 48), and 54 wiz (mentored 48). stood in the corner for the arena battle hoping to take breaks between battles, but as was said above, they all jumped in. slight break for the harrower of zek, and managed to stay out the way of fyst till the buffs came back. nobody ran out of power during the fyst battle. he was green to me, a 41x2 epic. was deceptively easy! nice loot also.
Is the rusty key "no drop?" Everything in Zek is grey to me and I have been trying for 4 hours to get the rusty key (killing dust adders, orks and bracken sprites) and I can't find it. I'm starting to wonder if it's a dropped item and I simply can't get it now w/o mentoring.
Whew, tried to take Fyst last night and failed. 43rd(made 44th in the attempt) Brigand, 44th Warden, 41st Dirge, 42 Paladin, 50th Paladin (mentored me on and off), and a 56th Conjuror (mentoring the 50th Pal or the Warden).
First Mistake: I was the only one that knew what to do. And that knowledge was based on watching my roommate do it twice and this website. This led to only 3 of us being in the sewers to kill Krondek before climbing the rope. It led to me trying to solo Gatekeeper Something(sp) after I lost the party trying to track him. And at least one more trip to the courtyard to kill Blacksmith Somebody(sp).
Another mistake was only myself and the Warden were working on the Rescue. Everyone else was only working the Shield and had advanced on Sashra's tasks just enough to unlock the sewer grate. This meant that we had to leave the party twice to talk to the infilitrator to get our updates.
All this running around took up a lot of time and we started to take casualties as people needed to get some sleep. We made it to the arena only to get wiped by the gladiators with only 4, the two palies, the warden and myself. At that point we were real tired and getting real sloppy and just ran in.
Another big mistake was not staying together, but between lag and all those indirect routes we were constantly seperated. It was a lot of fun, but DFC requires a certain mindset, a certain focus, and we didn't have it.
I got Sentry Goorlux to spawn after 15 attempts at place holder. I did notice a pattern though. The PH have a 7 to 8 min repop and once I got Sentry Goorlux there was almost a 15 min pause. Hope this helps.
A side note to arena fight with Emperor Fyst. Make sure your entire raid/group steps fully into the arena and the gates close behind you, otherwise the quest won't advance. Was in a raid and we spent about 2 hours wondering why update wouldn't take place.
Spawning Sentry Goorlux was a pain for me. The Deathfist Senty that spawns him spawns in different spots each time, but he is always within the lumberjack and Gorge Huntress area. I slayed the Sentry about 10 or 11 times before Goorlux Spawned, and that location was random as well. Good luck!
Fyst was 41 epicx2, duo'd him as a 50SK with a 50fury... just melee'd and casted a pet every now and then, fury just melee'd and healed when i got to half. mostly with HoT's... was really easy...
had problems at first getting the arena door to open, went outside to the courtyard and started pulling the alarmed guard captains and a pretorian guard came out of a wall and the door opened. so if you have problems opening the door, try that...
Important step on this is that there are literally like 5-6 named down in the bottom you need to kill to get access to the jail. We pretty much went through and killed everything we could find before we went up the rope. Otherwise, you'll get all the way to the step where you need to give the people the recall stones and be stuck.
Entered DFC with a group of 5 and ran through it all very easily, range of 53 to 43. One note, after the Harrower, and whatever other mobs are left, have been killed in the arena, everyone in the group should get back to the walls. Fyst will run to the middle of the arena, waiting to aggro. In the meantime, let your power regen till you're ready. If you die against Fyst, you have to restart the instance to redo it... a nice 18 hour wait.
just a side note do not yell when in the ring at the end of the quest to regain manna. nothing else will spawn and you have to do the whole thing over to get back down there:)
There was a preaetorian guard attached to the Blacksmith Gultok encounter outside of the castle... so if you are looking in the walls for the guards and can't find any, check the Blacksmith too.
Dont know what they are talking about with one of the praetorian guards in the wall, had to kill the blacksmith cause he has a praetorian guard with him then i the door to the arena opened for me
I just soloed DFC tonight as a level 55 SK. The whole event from start to finish took about 1.5 hours from Sewer to killing Fyst. Can confirm Harrower was level 42^^^ non-epic and Fyst himself was groupx2 Epic. The actual fight with Fyst took about 9 minutes mostly melee and DoT's along with a few casts of my undead servant. He only actually landed hits on me about 4 times, and each time never even knocked me out of green health-wise. I have screen prints if anyone wants to see.
I wanted to just make a few clarifications. 2 of us duo'ed this quest. Took us as a level 57 ranger and 58 monk in about an hour for just the citadel portion) Best way is just to kill every named on every level as you go though it to make sure that all the doors unlock for you. The Harrower of Zek was NOT an epic raid mob (as of 03/23/06) he was level 42 heroic. Emporer Fyst was only epic encounter and we killed him very easily. Neither of us took any damage and he was relatively easy. Just auto-attack and conserve mana on any specials. Maybe cast one now and again but just stand there and attack him and you will take him down. (this is of couse all grey to us at this point I understand that it much more challenging when this is all on par with your level, but for those with it sitting in your journal he is soloable for I would say 54+ with good armor and stats) Good Luck!
Just took Fyst down tonight with 54 monk full rare T6 armor. Used spider stance as mentioned below and worked like a charm. Was able to get heals off enough to do it. Only got hit about 8 times total.
I was able to pull one of the Praetorian Guards from a wall by running around the top of the stairs near the wall and using snare to pull him out. Most of my other skills just kept saying I couldn't see my target.
There is an inacurracy in there : once you've rescued the 3 prisonners and gone back to the infiltrator, but before you go to the arena, you have to kill the Blacksmith in the courtyard, or the gates of the arena will remain closed. Found that out yesterday in a bit of a "oh noes, there's a pretorian in the walls !" panic :)
The Deathfist Gladiators were 40^^^ for me. Two died and out popped two 40^^^ lions. Killed the lions first and then the gladiators. Dogolka dropped at 40^^^. Next came the Harrower of Zek at 40^^^. Finally, Emperor Fryst came down in all his level 41^^^ Epic x2 glory.
Competed this quest last night entered with a Warlock, Fury, and Guardian all level 50, Guardian had T6 armour and couple of Cobalt pieces. Everything was grey untill we got to the arena, and all the mobs where green, level 40, except Fyst which was a level 42 Epic X2.
It is a long fight so use your mana wisly. We concentrated on keeping the defensive debuffs, and healing up at all times.
Some things to keep in mind when you fight the first four guards, as soon as the first two guards go down, 4 lions will join in. You want to kill all the lions befor you kill the last guard. Because when you kill the last guard Dogoka will spawn, and he does not need help from any lions.
After Dogoka, The Harrower of Zek will join the fray, he was knocking our Guardian around the arena like a ping pong ball. But damage wise we coasted and built up mana and health for the coming fight with Fyst.
The Fight with Fyst was very long and we maintained our defensive debuffs to keep the mana burn rate for the healer down. This worked out and eventually the melee went our way, with the Warlock pumping a little mana to the fury, and casting a few offensive spells at the start and end of the fight.
Did this today with two conjurors and a templar - all level 51. This after the LU17 patch.
The greenhood ladies did update everyone's quest with just one person hailing them. We were one group - so I don't know if it works right with 2 groups in a raid.
Everything was grey except the emperor. The arena fight was scary - at first we could engage one at a time, then - when Dogolka spawned and some more orcs - they seemed to gang up on us. Turned out fine and the Harrower of Zek waited until we engaged it (grey). The Harrower was NOT epicx2 as indicated above - he was a regular heroic - died pretty easily.
The Emperor was green - L42 epic x2. We got him to 60% before we started to have agro problems, got him to 50% before the other pet lost agro and we all got killed. Revived in the basement and went back. One of the arena gates was locked but we could target him around the edge of the door and pulled him - again the problem was the pets would eventually loose agro and he would come beat on conjurors - got him to about 40%, died again and went home. So he will have to wait for a 4th or 5th member or another 2 levels or so. Perhaps we will get the Tarton's wheel quest done first for some extra hate-reduction.
Well, you dont need to kill yourself to get back down to sewers as a door opens up to it after you kill all the names in the upper part. Just fyi, make sure when you are about to do arena part of raid, make sure no one has the call for help on their hot key bar, so they dont accidently hit it and screw up the entire raid for you, cause when this happens fyst wont even aggro you after you kill the dog named and you will have to wait to do it another day.
Okay, first I would like to say Emperor Fyst is a lvl 41 Epix x2. The other thing missing from the quest walk through is the need to kill a named slave driver in the sewers before the doors to the prison cells open up. So... When you zone into the sewers, you may want to kill him first. I had to kill myself and revive in the sewers to go get him before continuing the quest.
Not shure wether zoning out really works - I managed to select the wrong respawn point today after a wipe (after killing nameds) and couldn't reenter due to timer - as before...
Not shure wether actually zoning out (after killing nameds - before any nameds you never had a timer) works differently.
Also the greenhood ladies still depopp without giving everybody an update - as has been proven by someone again - luckily I had gone in before to get the two ladies in the dungeons i was missing with a hi lvl friend...
Confirm as of today had to kill placeholders Deathfist Sentries, spawned on own in area around lumber mill, after 4th time i killed one, Gorrlux spawned running down road as he used to.
As of Live Update 16, Sentry Goorlux can now be spawned by killing the placeholder "A Deathfist sentry", a level 38^^^ located roughly where Goorlux used to spawn.
Just confirmed...you can zone out and reset the zone to rehail the mobs in the sewer. We killed the 3 named down there and then 1 group member with a happy trigger finger hailed Shelmay before others were on that step. We zoned out and back to reset the zone.
I don't know how some of you managed this with 3 or 4 chars. as we tried with a raid of 4 and 3 (all low 40's) and got wiped on the ramparts 3 times. We finally gave up and will try again with a full raid of 2 groups of 6. The mobs were just too much and popped too fast to recover in time for a decent chance. What is the trick? We cleared the sewers...then the mines...then climbed the rope...killed the 4 named in the courtyard...killed 5 townies to get the sentries to spawn...after killing 4 waves of them, we went up the ladder in the tower near the butcher shop and pulled the close named down to the top level and killed him and his cronies while getting jumped again by the ground level group of sentries...we moved up to the ramparts and killed another named, but before we were done, respawns were popping in front and in back of us every 2 minutes...managed to get to one of the towers and pull another named down, but got mobbed again by 2 more waves of named and cronies behind us again...it was impossible to find, much less even get to the infiltrator...what are we doing wrong?
I found Sentry Goorlux right around -182, -26, -292. Kinda on the side of the hill near a few large rocks. I was running around for a good 15-20 minutes, and about 10:30 game time is when I first saw him on track. I'm not sure if that is his spawn time, or if it was just coincidental with his respawn time.
