Leelav Yekl needs you to track down an assassin for him. He first sends you to Freeport to scour the inns looking for clues on how to track him down. He gives no further instructions but we can tell you that you must speak to Kreglebop Yekl in West Freeport. He is found behind the arena at the Vagrant Camp at 296, -3, 23 . Good aligned players: From the inside of The Thieves' Way you want the To the City of Freeport - West exit at -104, 0, 62 .
Kreglebop Yekl will give you clues that lead to Qeynos. You are once again told to scour the taverns of Qeynos to find an unspecified NPC. We can tell you that this NPC is found past a curtain (hidden) in a downstairs area of the tavern in North Qeynos. The curtain is at 325, -21, 148 . The NPC is named Lodo Bightn and can be found at 337, -27, 155 .
You will then be sent to The Crypt of Betrayal to search for signs of the Assassin. Bring a group for this step. When you walk past the hallway near 98, 7, 17 two hired assassins (level 38-40 ^^^ and ^^ mobs) will spawn and attack you. Kill them and you will receive a Worn Note. Examine the note to receive a hint for the next step.
You must now head to the mill at Windstalker Village. As you enter the mill you go to the corner just inside on your left ( -1922, -35, -608 ) to get an advance. You will receive a Crudely Scrawled Parchment a that point which can be examined to give information on the next step.
It's now time to head to the docks in The Thundering Steppes. Make sure your party stays together at this point as when you go near the docks ( -420,-21,-402 ) Verishu and some enthralled warriors will ambush you. Kill them and you will receive Nightblood Orders. Read this for a hint to the next step.
Now it's time to head to Rivervale and visit a lodge at -521, -0, -212 . When someone enters the second door inside the lodge Ethruia Aidora and several other Lamias will spawn and attack you. Kill them. Ethruia will drop a Quickly Written Letter which can be examined for more hints.
I met a gnome named Leelav Yekl. He claims he's running from an assassin that tried to kill him in Freeport. I've agreed to track down this assassin and prevent him from killing Leelav.
Stage 1
It's possible that the assassin could still be in Freeport, perhaps still living at an inn.
Start:
Search the Inns in Freeport for the assassin.
Complete:
You've found out the assassin left for Qeynos.
After speaking with Kreglebop Yekl, it appears that the assassin left to Qeynos.
Stage 2
The assassin seems to have gone to Qeynos. Search for him in taverns or the seedier areas.
Start:
Search the taverns in Qeynos for the assassin.
Complete:
You've found out the assassin entered the Crypt of Betrayal.
The assassin isn't in Qeynos, but may still be below its streets in the Crypt of Betrayal.
Stage 3
Tracking the assassin has thus far been fruitless. It seems he went below Qeynos to the Crypt of betrayal.
Start:
Search the Crypt of Betrayal for signs of the assassin's passing.
Complete:
You were ambushed, but found no sign of the assassin.
An ambush! How would the assassin know that you were looking for him?
Stage 4
Head to the meeting location and try to find out who is behind the assassination attempt.
Start:
Visit the meeting location described by the note.
Complete:
You went to the location the note mentioned, but only found another letter.
Nothing, just a note. Perhaps by following the trail to the Steppes the assassin may be found.
Stage 5
The docks out in the Thundering Steppes likely holds another clue as to the location of the assassin.
Start:
Head to the Thundering Steppes and meet with the assassin.
Complete:
You attempted to meet with the assassin, but were ambushed instead.
Yet another ambush, though it looks like this may have been intended to refuse payment to the intended assassins.
Stage 6
Check the houses in Rivervale for a place that the assassin might be using as a lodge.
Start:
Find the lodge mentioned in the note on Verishu.
Complete:
You found the lodge... and the waiting fiends within.
Yet another ambush. This L.B. fellow has no originality... well, aside from the fiends. That's new.
Stage 7
Leelav is in danger! Warn him before the assassin can get to him!
Start:
Warn Leelav that he is in danger!
Complete:
You've saved Leelav from the assassin.
The assassin, though apparently supernatural, is dead.
Stage 8
Speak with Leelav again. Perhaps he knows what this mask is that Lodo was searching for.
Start:
Speak with Leelav once more.
Complete:
You've spoken with Leelav about the mask and the assassin.
Leelav not only paid me for my effort, but also gave me a possible location for a powerful mask.
In a strange twist of fate, it appears that I've stopped the Nightbloods in Rivervale from finding a lead that would take them to a powerful magical item. Leelav Yekl seemed to believe that I would be a better choice for the item, and has given me a hint as to its possible location.
Here is a quick tip, after talking to Leelav, I killed Lodo and one of the haflings, died just before the other one did, revived, ran back, he was still there even though Leelav had died as well, killed him out of spite and WHOA quest still updated. Now waiting the five minutes for Leelav to respawn and finish quest!
I just got the update for the CoB step, and wanted to add that the hired assassins that pop are a lvl 38^^ and a lvl 38 ^^^ green to me at 45, but still a tough fight. I had to fake death after the ^^ went down, and my health was at 20% after the ^^^ went down. Good luck! it's upstairs, and the loc that they popped for me was 101.46, 6.85, 13.19
I did everything required up until the mill. When I get there the guy inside doesnt give me the update...he merely says something about me "not having thought about the mystery enough."
It's really weird. I looted the note in the CoB...what's wrong?
BTW...it's very easy to get to the INN in N.Qeynos if you're evil. Once you get out of the grate, there's a little ravine that surrounds the building closest to you. Drop down into that (really just a building protected by a hill) and get as close as you can. Look for patrols (first light is the most clear if you can wait) then run straight to the inn.
EDIT: I figured it out...its a location update. Jump OVER the NPC and you'll get the update!
What level are you? That kind of message usually means you need to come back later when you are higher level.
Nevermind... I should read the whole post next time. :)
Still, it i snot unprecedented. eq2 quest:The Journey is Half the Fun can be started at... 20? But you cannot finish it until 32 or 35 (I forget) and cannot wear the reward until 42.
If your a fay you need to know that you will not be able to enter into West Freeport from Commonlands entry or any other entry for that matter unless you go through the thieves way then you can sneak into W. Freeport. I tried from every entry and the 66^^^ always killed me as soon as I walk through the door, invisible or not. Every other zone was accessible except WF. Also I went through Beggar's Court from docks to enter thieves way which was closer. Hope this helps someone
Ok so it seems this part is a pain in the ass for a summoner. it turns the guy into a PET, which makes it possible for you to heal him, but NOT your pet! I was targeting through my pet to heal him and it didn't work. GRRRR Sony, at least give us a second bar for the guy! This is really annoying Kasey Shanahan of Divine Chaos on Guk
just did this as a lvl 56 wizzy, my advise is to go in the back door (side near river), but before that kill the guyts outside as they just join in the fight. Then kill a Lamias guarding the door (do this fromthe top of the hill), Ethruia will then run out. You need to kill them all to get reward.
When I accepted the quest, I crashed to desktop. I had to wait a few minutes to get back in because my char was still active. Once I got in, UI was reset to default settings.

If your char is aligned with Qeynos you can enter Freeport Invis without being attacked. I did this today from commonlands west freeport entrance. Although it gives a message that Guard XXX has spotted you and they draw their swords, I was never actually attacked.
Yep, my friend's 42nd Warden and my 42nd Brigand just tried to duo this. In Rivervale we were joined by a 39th Assassin. The fights were exciting bbut we were having fun... Then we got owned by Lodo Bightn and his two friends, twice. He was a 43rd triple up, one of his friends was a double and the other a single. I spent the whole fight stunned/rooted/not hitting back, all 10 seconds of it. Very frustrating.
Just finished the part in Rivervale as a level 52 assassin. Ethruia Aidora is now Level 40 ^^ with one friend level 40 ^^ and two friends level 40^. But, they fight like 2 level 40^^^. Used assassinate on Ethruia and started off with doing 5015 damage and still finished the fight with only 117 HP left.
46 Dirge Just updated a part of this today. Thought I was going to have to die in WFP but like Kyen mentioned, (and I discovered this before reading what Kyen wrote =D ) just go through the Thieves Way, hug the wall and go up the stairs and talk to the gnome. The guards are red to me. Yes, I used stealth but with the guards red aggro doesn't matter whether you stealth or not.
Jst finished the quest as a 50 necro and had some trouble. They now have it where Ethruia Aidora is lvl 40^^^ and all of her friend are allso 40^^^.I recoment using invis (she can not see invis) and pulling her outside through the backdoor and fight there because the halflings at the bar will help her kill you.
For a belly aching laugh, spawn Lodo Bightn with his 2 buddies and wait. All these peeps that are mid 20s to mid 30s will be running around to level or whatever and Lodo Bightn will kill them in the blink of eye. It's hilarious b/c they just run past him like he's just an NPC and the WHAM. Lodo kills them in about 2 seconds. I was sitting waiting to heal so I could fight him again after he killed me and he must have killed 12 peeps running by after all said and done. I could not stop laughing....
Soloed this quest last as lvl 52 Nec. It was pretty tough since my spells are Adept 1 & I have crappy gear. Died like 10 times before finishing it. Never been to Qeynos, so guards killed me 3 times. The toughest part is definitely Lodo Bightn w/2 henchmen. He is deceivingly tough as well as his 2 comrades.
To be honest, I dont see what all the hype of "i had to pull a guard and sacrifice" is all about. yeah, im a 60 paladin but the WFP part was extremely easy, even with guards conning orange to me. Use the sewer, hug the wall, then enter the first set of doors, way before the Overlord statue. Walk up the steps inside, go on the deck and talk to Kreglebop. Dont sweat it.
So I just went through the first part of this tonight on my brigand... Well, freeport was easy enough, Qeynos gave me a LITTLE trouble, keyword of LITTLE.
First, have EQ2 map installed... it will help SO much. Either that or have a VERY good knowledge of Qeynos and the sewers.
What you want to do from Antocia is take the underwater zone to peat bog, then zone into the sewers (level 2 of vermin something or other iirc) and then go up into the Down Below and then north qeynos... STAY there. (Alternivately you can run from the peat bog to the hovel, two 15 guards guard the gate but shouldn't give you any trouble and you can run almost straight past the merchants to the sewers, no other guards unless there was a wandering I didn't see, then procede to zone out into NQ)
Up ahead (depending on your settings) you will see a building. This is the tavern. Ahead and to the RIGHT is a gate with 2 or 3 level 55 guards. Slowly creep forward and the LEFT... STOP when you see the building rendered, you should be able to see the guard(s) from here. Eventually you will see the guard on his horse and a patroll on foot is possible also. Wait until they pass and you should be clear to run to the door, nothing aggros on the inside. Far left doorway, down stairs through the curtain, NPC will NOT have the normal book thingy over his head, but is the first hail-able one you encounter downstairs. (Depending on your settings, you may be able to see the tavern from where you zone out... if so you don't need to move)
Gate out, or run out the front door again and hope you don't hit a guard when you do.
Just a tip, if you are a scout class, don't use your escape cause it will put you right in front of a guard that will kill you. Wish, I'd thought of that before :( feel pretty dumb for not knowing but in case anyone else is doing this want to forewarn.
For good chars it is easy to get into FP and speak to Yekl. From Commonlands enter the graveyard and exit at Longshadow Alley. From there head into the Thief's Way which is right in front of you. Exit the Thief's way in West FP. This place is save. Stay at the wall while you go to the inn where you find Yekl. From the corner of the inn you can see the epic guard. Just keep your hands at the wall and open the door to the inn. Upstairs you find Yekl. It worked for me and I hope it will help.
As a level 35 Dirge, just waited for guard to move and ran into the inn [invis useless]. Had absolutely no problem, in and out in twenty seconds. Just watch the pathing guards.
this quest is suited to good side characters....i say that based on my own personal experience doing this the other night...i am a dark elf, so the freeport thing was easy, but then i get to n. quenos, and there is a roaming captian (lvl 70, epic x 4) who will see you, almost wherever you try to hide...i died twice, then had some guildies come and distract the captian by hailing, just long enough for me to get into inn...during this time some other members of guild (baddies, also) tried to get in inn, and were attacked by some other roaming guards... finally we all get the update, and then off to freeport, for the one good guildie who was also doing quest... here's the part that angered me... there is a captain by the inn, but he does not roam, and although he is (lvl 70, epic x 3) he sits on the side of the inn, making it beyond easy to go in inn, and then up the stairs in the inn...this quest is difficult, and i'd advise having a good character hail/distract the roaming captian...because i swear that he didn't even have to hit me for me to die...i actually think i caught him wink at me, and then *poof* dead...lol...good luck
the guy that starts the quest is in the end battle with u. he is supposed to live, but mine died. now i can't turn i quest. a little FYI. do not let him die:)
The L65 heroic guard in West Freeport is now gone, so you can enter the inn for the update as a Qeynosian (through the sewers into West Freeport).
Whole quest comfortably soloable as L54 pally, but would be better to do it lower. Named on TS docks was 39^^^, in Rivervale was 41^^^ and last guy was L43^^^.
I started this quest today. You have to go in through the sewers (if Qeynos based) and none of the guards wander in direct line of the inn. However i was invis and had no problems at all. Why you all are dying i have no idea
Hey all how the heck do u get into west freeport via the sewers? where do u enter the fa reaken sewers and how the free zeak do u tip toe through town without some1 killing u by merely blowing u a fa reaken kiss! and im LVL 53 fury lol
As of LU21 the Guard does not guard the Inn within West FP. Still have to pretty much crawl through the sewers though due to underconned heroic guards posted at all gates, but I suppose that is to be expected.
Don't worry about the guards in North Qeynos. I am a shadowknight, level 46 now. I completed this step at level 40. The guard wanders around. Wait until he wanders away, then run into the stable. Go into the room with the barbarian, then through the curtain, down the stairs... voila! That's all there is to it.
It's really not that bad. I helped my Qeynos based friend the other day by standing at max distance, casting a spell on guard, and running around then zoning to commonlands. If qeynos based, could probably do the same thing but run behind that one building by the sewer entrance since theres a epic lvl 70 that patrols the other side. or take turns dying. not that big of a deal.
Yeah - great work Sony. Have a level 35 quest with a level 66 Heroic guard infront of the inn that can see through invisibility. Thank you for wasting my time you bunch of muppets
Now with the new PvP guards I took my wife's character to do this quest. the tavern in freeport was guarded by a 66^^^. left group, sacraficed my life by pulling him from far away so she could get in. I cant believe they added these guards making this quest near impossible without higher level help.
I pulled the guard outside the tavern from a distance, yelled to break the encounter, and sprinted away, then FDed and he stood there, and I was able to run back and walk in like I owned the Inn, hope this helps anyone
This quest was cake, We had a 47 guardian (mentoring to lvl 45), 35 Assassin, 41 wizard, a 45 pally, and 37 Templar.
As for the epic guards, we had our assassin get far away and shoot him with an arrow, (14k damage), and when the guard was chasing our assassin, we all rushed in, and got the update.
The was Nary a problem, except we got caught off guard once and our tank (47 guardian) got low on health, but other then that, it was really easy.
lvl 45 conj got past the guard with ussing magepet and then vissited some room in the inn. left room and got to update npc. mebay i was lucky but it did work pritty well
Since the KoS, the new guards mean it's impossible for a Qeynos lvl40 to get to Kreglebop Yekl alive. The way is guarded by a lvl70^^^ and 2 lvl70 dogs. He's right in the middle, and you cant pass by him either side without being seen....we got a lvl61 conjourer to invis by and call us =)
The guards in FP do make this difficult, but not completely impossible. You need to find a player that is willing to take a death. If they pull the level 66 guard at the inn via range, you can run in while the guard is away.
Well thanks to LU20 this quest is a huge pain to start now. I actually put off starting it just for lu20, of course leave it to SOE to make the guards lvl 70 epicX4 encounters. Anyways there is a practically unkillable KOS guard that can kill about anybody in 1 hit guarding the area you get this update. IT does nto roam or anything.
Thanks alot SOE, making guards scowl inside town has really made this game more enjoyable. Who doesn't love trying to dodge mobs that can kill them in 1 hit. I guess when players get lvl 70 the top guilds on the server MIGHT be able to take them down.
